Just a quick tip I've learned- If you have a stained plastic palette, try using a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser (or cheaper off brand) and it helps gets rid of the staining. :)

I am painting with white nights :) in fact they are my first and so far last watercolors :D I am from Ukraine and in all eastern Europe everybody paints with St Petersburg watercolors. I was actually thinking that it is kind of bias in post soviet countries - to tell that white nights are the best :D and I wanted to buy something else because in almost all english speaking videos at youtube people use any watercolors but White Nights :D but after your review I can be sure they can compete with another as well :) thank you for this video! :)

Just picked up my white nights. I didn't even know I bought paints for professionals. I only heard that they are good and expensive, at least for me. My way to get high-quality materials on a small budget is to buy second-hand ... It's great that I could see an honest review and paint the same watercolors with you at the same time. Ps. I was also on your Michaels classes today and it was fantastic. Forgive my lame English, but I am very excited and I absolutely wanted to write to you with thanks. So thank you very much! Big hugs from rainy Warsaw!

I have watched this many times. I took the tiny plunge and now have artist grade paints! I had been painting with Van Gogh. I cannot wait to use paint that has flow and texture! That is what I found sorely lacking in my paints. Also, when I did get texture from my Korean Shinhan, it is a weirs sort of snakeskin look that I cannot stand. I love wet in wet and I am having a painterly morning! Thanks for all of the brand demos! I really enjoy them and all of the info!

Thanks for this review! I've heard great things about the white nights paint so I bought them. I have the Sonnet paints already and was wondering why the pans are both stamped St. Petersburg on the bottom. I was hoping I hadn't paid $50 for $20 paint. The white nights are my first artist grade paints so I have nothing to compare with. Your seal of approval is all I need to jump in and enjoy these paints!!😗

This review is so usefull, thank you Lindsay! I've bought the white nights set of 24 and i love the vibrant colors. I submitted to your craftsy class last month and found that i needed some more vibrant watercolors than i have with my w&n cotman of 12. I am a beginner so mixing colors is not my thing. Not yet i mean. I am practising. In the mixed media class you use watersoluble crayons so i had to have those offcourse ánd watercolor pencils. I'm not sure if they were needed but i had tot have them. So i went online and found the White nights for a very good price. Because my budget is not too big i went for reeves watersoluble crayons(24) and koh-i-noor Mondeluz watercolor pencils also 24. They are my new treasures! Love these products. Your reviews on youtube have helped me a lot to choose my materials. Thanks again! Bye, Wanda

Very cool Lindsay! I know the purpose of this video was more product review than teaching, but for some reason this particular floral of your many helped me see/conceptualize how to get a reflected look in a vase or jar, to use watery paint in the jar and thicker paint on the flowers to get the transition of the opaque/semi-opaque flowers to the stems in water. Thanks!

I really love these paints, I got the 12 pan set from Jacksons art supply bc even with the shipping I found it to be the best price (I'm from the US). I bought them to bring around with me for when I just want to paint on the go, or whenever instead of carrying my more expensive sets around. They are outstanding for the value, just as good as any of my other artist quality paints. With the 12 pan set I can mix any and all my colors I need, they mix well without getting muddy. I did replace the black pan in the set with a magenta just because I always prefer to have a bright pink in my palette. Thanks for the review and tutorial Lindsay! Always love watching your videos everyday!

After resisting for more than a year I finally caved and bought some White Nights. But I didn't go for a set and chose only the most lightfast (3*) single pigment colours that I don't have in other brands. I got 9 in total. I put them in a small tin. They look a bit odd together not being the usual mix of cool and warm colours that usually make up a set but they compliment my other paints nicely.
@roden70
@roden70 8 жыл бұрын
I have the 36 set and love it. You do see that you have to be lighthanded with the colours because they are so pigmented. For instance the clover is far to dark because of the pigment-water ratio. I had this too in the beginning. You have to adapt to this but they really are lovely paints and layer beautifully. The Russian green is my favourite green by far.
@joyfulldj
@joyfulldj 8 жыл бұрын
How are they mixing wise? Can you mix earthy tones or tone down easily with this pallet? I am new to artist grade paint so forgive me if I sound stupid: I am not to fond of to bright, I even tend to tone down my inktense,lol.
@roden70
@roden70 8 жыл бұрын
+A .Vultink No worries, few questions are stupid. :-) Yes, you can tone these down perfectly just by adding lots of water. You then get very subtle washes in pastel colours. Mixing is great, especially if you choose as much single pigment paints as possible. Keep an eye on the colourwheel to avoid mud and you'll be fine! These are more easy to tone down than the Inktense.
@thefrugalcrafter
@thefrugalcrafter 8 жыл бұрын
+A .Vultink these are bright but yes you van add water:) try a couple of pans if they are affordable to you and see. I recommend the Cadmium's as they are beautiful test priced the same as others. I would avoid the earth colors tho if buying single pans.

ahh my favourite watercolours! I have the 24 set in a plastic palette too and I actually really like the palette, dunno why people hate it so much! here in Poland they are 160 PLN for the 24 in a plastic palette set, which would be about 40 USD (36 colours is for ~57,5 USD) and the individual pans are usually for about 8 PLN (2 USD) I've noticed that many art supplies here are way cheaper (or just a bit cheaper, haha) than in the US or the UK (mainly coloured pencils though, like Derwent or Koh-I-Noor); I love watching you paint the mason jars ;)

These White Night paints are beautiful. I feel that many products from countries where English is not strongly in use are almost ignored or automatically given quite cursory reviews by some reviewers. Thanks for taking the time to do a fair review. I enjoy all of your videos but I ask you to try to speak a little more slowly. Sometimes when you are trying to get a lot of information out in a short time, it is almost impossible to understand you without replaying it several times. Please try to slow down.

What sold me was your side by side with M Graham (Specially since M Graham can cost up to 8 euro per tube here: I must order that in the uk when I want that, M Graham doesn't sell in the netherlands, better look REEEEEEALLY sweet & innocent to our @spindoctor if I want those,not sure if I can manage the innocent look,lol ). I put one & one together when I heard Lindsy saying she prepped new stamps with beading ink with these wipes. Figured it only made sence: If they need to seal pallets that you get some fabric residu with it. Think of it like Gel nails; you have to wipe them of before they are not sticky & ready for use.

The pallet looks like the WN Cottman set you have.

+winelover215 it is larger and the slots are a bit wider sine there is a slight difference in pan sizes.

+elsa Grace cool! Is there overlap in colors? Does the set I have here have a name or number?
@elsagrace3893
@elsagrace3893 8 жыл бұрын
There is a lot of overlap in the colors. In one palette 4 colors listed were missing. I'm there place was another 4 not listed on the package. I do t mind because I'm not missing any exiting color that I wanted. It kind of looks like you have the Original. Second guess is the Expanded. It's hard to tell because both have so much doubling of colors. (The third is The Sequel) The colors a bright. I am satisfied with that. I noticed in comparing Yarka pigments with M Graham for the last several hours 🙄 that many pigments in M Graham are totally absent in these 3 Yarka palettes. I assume the low price is due to lesser quality pigments in terms of lightfastness. Same colors to the eye but different materials. I've only been at watercolor for 3 months. Mostly with Reeves so I have no reference for pigment behavior on paper but very soon I will because I've got an order out. 🤗

I think its funny when ppl say that aquafine is bad, yet i'm a fairly new painter and have an aquafine set and I've been able to pull off realistic paintings ...

+ironwraithful do you have the pans or tubes? I was unhappy with the tubes.

half pans ... bout the best I could afford at the time. On the other end of the spectrum I was told Koi was great, but I didn't really care for it, the colors when dried looked very dull and I had to go over the whole painting w/ a different set of paint to brighten it up.

@@thefrugalcrafter okay! I guess i'm confused about this whole whole pan size thing. it seems to be universal only to an extent which makes me think only full pans that are the "standard size" can be put into any other palette that holds full pans. But what about the non standard size ones?

Hi, Lindsay, have you ever bought something and the content is totally different from what you bought? All of you get the correct 524 (indanthrene blue) while I get the 521 Ultramarine Deep in my white knight 36 pan set . I email Russia White Knight about this and hope it wont happen to anyone else. (I cant return the whole set to the seller because when I found out the issue it was already 2 months pass by (I was in biz trip oversea and my family didn't unbox and check it for me XD)

I have received the wrong color in a set before (daniel smith) and I took a photo of what I got and told them what was missing and they replaced the tube. I think most companies would mail you the missing color.

I love this tutorial. Always loved to put flowers in a little mason jar. I watch each tutorial you have and am a devoted follower. You are a gifted teacher !! I will try harder to take time for myself and play with my watercolors, One year on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2018 will be the first anniversary of my son's death. It has been a very hard year, I will try to play with my watercolors during this weekend. Thank you Lyndsey . 💖

Thank you! If you could only pick 3 or 4 brushes for a beginner what would they be? I am looking at the princeton neptune brushes. I am also ordering the St petersburg white nights.. is that a good brand to start out with? I am also interested in prima(woodlands).

I am already placing another order for specific colors- they are only like 2 bucks a pan thru that UK company- SO Ill get colors I use most- I love the plastic palette- I was told I would hate it- LOL, we are all so different, plastic pallets dont bother me at all- These and my Mission Gold's are my favorite Vibrant paints that are very affordable.

If the worst we get on a video from you is a paint name mispronounced, I think we are fortunate indeed! At least we all know you mean Sennelier even if you say it wrong. I guess that shows that we watch your videos.
