I actually have this bottle and have not tried it yet. I can’t wait to open it, re-watch this and taste along (once dry Jan is over😢)

Can’t believe your videos have so few views. They deserve way more! Succinct yet very useful and educational, plus clean production value. One question: do you find blind tasting to be easier/harder as you increase the price point? You are obviously talented guessing these (imo) low price point wines, but it would be cool to have a series with bottles in the $30-$60 range, especially since (in my experience) the complexity would scale up with the price point (not always but generally). In any case, I’m glad I discovered this series, and I look fwd to more in the future. I watched thru all of these in 2 sittings! Which is rare for me on KZbin.

Happy to have you here! Check out our full travel episodes, they tend to get more views and I think you'll like them! I actually think it's easier at higher price points, because you get more typicity. Often times, cheap wines have less specific "terroir" and won't be as indicative of a "classic" example of the wine.

Bravo! When I actually saw the color, I could be Pinot Grigio. Your thinking surprised me, Friuli is also at the coast, why it has no/less salinity? Can be because the Mediterranean is warmer, less salty, calmer than the Atlantic? I do not think that salt pass into the vine but maybe the soil or climate is different and the wine gets more mineral flavours. Grape varieties have also different tastes by themselves. For me wines are the food of the place, my personal explanation is that the grapes were selected through time to marry those dishes or because the people liked those flavours. Albariño is immediately seafood, the salinity!

Do you specify the range of white varieties that can be presented to you as the list you use to decide and eliminate from could be much so much longer making it an almost impossible task. Varieties such as Fiano,Vermentino,Pecorino,Semillon and Assyrtiko being just some I can think of. Excellent show. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and make your next trip Australia.

Hello! Yes, we use the grapes and places that are possibilities for the Court of Masters Advanced testing, which is very similar to the WSET list as well. The full list is in the description if you'd like to see!

You’re a fucking beast. A couple friends and coworkers and I have recently started studying for our Level 2 Court of Masters and blind tastings can get gnarly, especially whites. Much respect

The acidity should be a big give away to pick Albarino over Pinot Gris. Alsatian PG often has residual sugar. Friuli examples dry but always have a copper colour.

Too much body for a Grüner Veltliner ?????? - I think you should take a lesson on GV - to learn, that the best GV from Austria are far away from medium body and pepper ;-) Knoll, FX Pichler, Alzinger, Prager, Bründlmayer, just to drop some names
@visforvino9 ай бұрын
I love those producers! Would you not describe those as medium minus body with either white pepper or vegetal notes? How would you eliminate Gruner from contention in a blind tasting?
@gerhardgerhard88889 ай бұрын
I think it depends on the ripeness of the grapes, the terroir and the ageing process. A dry Veltliner in the higher ripeness range has different aromas than a light steel tank wine. The pepper will become less, other aromes take over. As an example, here is James S's description of a Veltliner in the higher maturity range: -- That describes GV good ! Blind tasting is not black or white, if the wines do not show the aroma spectrum of the textbook alone, you have to have experience - I have been working on this for 30 years with a focus on GV as I live in Austria, and fail again and again ;-) You do a great job, love your Videos....
