La Sexorcito was a perfect storm at a special place in time. Nothing he has done since La Sexorcito has even remotely compared to this masterpiece of metal madness. There are very few albums I can listen to all the way through - but this is one of them. It wouldn’t matter if they reunite or not, the time has past - the magic is gone. But at least we can still listen to what will always be an example of the perfect music that came out of the 90’s.

You can hear the slight shift towards the secorcisto sound on their go's of thunder EP. Jay's first recording with them. You can totally hear them get tighter and more precise with Jay's playing. There are some really great riffs on make them die slowly. But the weird low-gain, echo half asked distortion on the guitar makes that album sound like shit. But it's actually heavy.

I’m a little saddened that Ivan got no mention. I got to see WZ twice in the early 90’s on a club tour. The first time I was waiting for someone who didn’t show, but was in during soundcheck and was blown away by the samples being played. At that time it may have been the first time I’d ever heard anything like it. The band was sitting around and I remember getting to sample some of the catering available. The drummer, Ivan, walked up to me and started a conversation. Then asked me to play some video games and chat. It was so awesome to hang out, I met musicians before but this guy was one of the nicest guys. He encouraged me to seek out their earlier albums (this was Sexorcisto era) and I did. The second show I saw we must’ve talked for hours. I didn’t really talk to the rest of the band but he got them all to sign my CD. He was so excited because their next trip back they were going to open in a bigger venue and I was going to be there. Unfortunately there wasn’t a third meet up. My parents split and a friend reported he wasn’t in the band anymore. I don’t to this day know what really happened, I was told it was drugs. I’m grateful for the times I did meet him though as he seemed super smart and respectful 😊

I first heard White Zombie in the snowboarding video Riders On The Storm in late 1992, which had 3 of their songs on it. They quickly became one of my favorite bands, even though I couldn't actually find the album anywhere or anything else about them. 13 year old me learned how to play guitar to those riffs, just from the crap VHS copy of the snowboarding video. I finally actually found the La Sexorcisto album the following summer. Then they started showing up on my favorite TV show, Beavis and Butt-head, and then on Headbanger's Ball. I was astonished that this band was now getting airplay on MTV. The 1995 album was a pretty big let down for me, as they started turning more electronic and less metal riff oriented. Caught them in late late 80s as openers for Milwaukee's Die Kreuzen , i think they were touring for Make Them Die Slowly. (Stache's, Columbus Ohio). Dug it, but couldn't grasp where they were headed till i heard Love Razor (G.O.T. Ep pre La Sexorcisto). That did it for me. Glad i stumbled onto this video. Brought back memories.

Man Astro Creep was one of the best albums that came out of that era. I think it’s the best example of what Rob was trying to achieve, musically and artistically. He’ll always be one of my fave artists, although I’m not a huge fan of his later stuff outside of WZ.

Love White Zombie. Also, RZ solo. Now, I understand Rob's point about "no stage presence", but it's ironic(at least to me) that he wanted to deal with a scene that he found to be pretentious. Also, to me, Rob and the band had more in common with Twisted Sister than perhaps he believed or wanted to admit. His statement about always wanting to sell out is particularly hilarious because you don't know if it's truthful, or just his sense of humor!

White Zombie broke up during the Danzig tour. Rob quit the band and wanted out. His management convinced him that it would be a huge mistake to ditch the WZ brand and would take years to get another project to the same level, if it were to even happen at all. This happened because Sean and Rob broke up. Rob caught Sean "in the act" with Ivan de Prume. Turned out that Sean and Ivan had been having an affair for a long time behinds Rob's back. It's why Rob would go on to tour in a separate bus. He didn't want to be around his ex, but wanted to keep the band alive and make it even bigger. Due to the record deal, etc., he couldn't kick Sean out of the band. Rob had to live with it. Info came from Philo/Phildo, the drummer for Last Crack that was Ivan's replacement in WZ, and a couple of roadies that got in the conversation. Met him backstage at the San Antonio date at Sneakers. I was talking to him and curious what had happened since WZ were usually out and about after shows. Years before they were signed to Geffen the WZ bus broke down outside of San Antonio and the band ended up sleeping on the floor at my girlfriend's apartment. So, it's not like I was a stranger. Phil said everyone was so upset by the situation that they were staying on the bus and had asked for no contact. I then went on to get my albums signed by Danzig and crew. While I was walking to my car Phil stopped me and said that Rob said that he wouldn't come out, but that he'd sign my stuff. I gave my album to Phil, the glow-in-the-dark version of La Sexorcisto and the green vinyl God of Thunder EP. Phil took them on the bus and had them signed by the band.

Holy shit, if you’re not lying, that explains a lot. I’ve never seen Rob or Sean give an exact reason as to why they broke up; I just remember seeing in articles back in the 90s that it was “amicable” and that Sean instigated the breakup. That makes sense as to why Rob was so persistent in shoving Sheri in Sean’s face, probably to spite her. It also makes sense as to why Rob never wants to form White Zombie again; I can tell he’s a man with a big ego so I imagine he didn’t get over Sean’s betrayal for a longgg time. Too bad they couldn’t be like Fleetwood Mac and just make damn good music out of their broken relationships.

Always been a big fan of White Zombie. I love the style, imagery and of course the music. I have liked Robs music afterwards but La Sexorcisto and Astro have never been topped in my opinion. I'd love to see a reunion for a tour but that will never happen. They've never seen eye to eye since the breakup and haven't been in a room together either. I'm also guessing Sheri Moon wouldn't approve of a reconciliation with Yseult.
@ThaiThom2 жыл бұрын
Chris Lee (Sean's hubby) wouldn't approve either. But that's a moot point because it ain't gonna happen even without their spouses in the picture. Sean and J both hate RZ and that's not gonna change and it is what it is. Meanwhile, J says he's never even watched a RZ movie, and never will. It's just bad blood after the band broke up.

Rob Zombie's birth name is "Robert Cummings!".. Rob Straker was his stage name prior to choosing "Rob Zombie!".. I was a big fan of WZ after first hearing them on Mtv (like most) around the time "La Sexorcisto" came out. Unfortunately I never got to see them live and the show I did plan on going to was their tour with Pantera and the Deftones, but wound up badly breaking my arm and stuck in limbo, not knowing if I'd need surgery or not and ya kinda can't go to a metal concert with your arm in a sling!...
