@learnsustainability4 жыл бұрын
I have never used Procreate so I can't say for sure but if you can find an app to record your screen as you draw, you can certainly throw the recording into any movie editing software, accelerate it and turn that into a video.

Thank you, it was very helpful. I wonder why you don't just use a second monitor for your reference, instead of pausing. You can even use a tablet. Tell me, how do you draw such straight and precise lines, for example the buildings? I know there are straight line tools but spacing them and sizing them perfectly is not easy to do on the fly, and I don't think drawing a freehand line would result in such straight lines.
@learnsustainability6 жыл бұрын
Good question! I have never thought of having the reference on a second screen because I use only one screen but it is a great idea! The straight lines are done using SHIFT in Photoshop.

I have looked at your video in slow motion, and the cursor doesn't show on your screen while you are drawing, I only see it when you hit the Photoshop area, for example, but not on the white board where you are drawing. No, I don't know any software that can draw for you but you can find free illustrations on website such as www.freepik.com/
@antikytherastudio4 жыл бұрын
Very useful. Thanks Alex! I certainly prefer the hand-drawn approach to some of the generated services I see out there. Couple of questions if I may: Do you ever ‘pre-draw’ the illustration in a faint outline and then ‘re-draw’ it during the recording (like a comic book artist would ink pencil lines). This could then be removed by increasing the contrast (or a chroma key).
@learnsustainability4 жыл бұрын
Cheers! I have used the pre-draw idea in the past when the drawings were really complicated and needed to be exact but it makes it impossible to use colours because they get altered too much.
@antikytherastudio4 жыл бұрын
@@learnsustainability Interest. I assumed it would be possible to entirely exclude a single colour (similar to a green screen technique), but I'll have to experiment before I commit to a big project.

@@learnsustainability Another technique I wondered about, would be do complete the entire drawing, then record myself erasing it line by line. Reverse this in the edit and I think it might make quite a convincing effect! What do you think?
@learnsustainability4 жыл бұрын
@@antikytherastudio I personally don't think this gives very good results, it gets messy when lines cross one another, etc. But you can certainly test for yourself and see what works best. I do use the erase tool for texts when I don't do them directly in the editing software.
@learnsustainability4 жыл бұрын
@@antikytherastudio Yes, you can also "recolour" with your editing software. I have seen plugins for FCPX that do that very well but I never got into it. I try to focus my time on good drawings.

Thank you so much for your crystal-clear explanation. Are you French? QUESTION please: How long does it take in total for a 15 min video, all included (script writing, recording, drawing, synchronizing voice & drawing, etc.)?
@learnsustainability4 жыл бұрын
Yes, I am French 😃 15 minutes is quite long. The last video I posted on my channel is 11 minutes (sustainability analysis of an iPhone kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z4DNna2AbdtseaM) took about 2 weeks to make but I did other things at the same time so maybe 6-7 full days. 15 minutes might take me 9-10 days but it also depends on how much research is needed for the script, the complexity of the content to explain and to draw, how much time I decide to spend on sound design. You will see that the iPhone video is very polished.

Good idea! I works for some things but it can get really messy when lines cross one another and it rarely looks as real as when you really draw, in an order that makes sense and draw and to watch something being drawn.
