Glad for Bamboo. Remember that he is imprinted on you, so Bamboo will always be closer to his human than another emu. I had that happen with the first Houdan roosters I had in my breeding program. I handled them too much and they became more imprinted on me than their hens. Still, with the right female, there is still a chance that he may breed one day. Glad you moved him. You can tell Bamboo is much happier.

I am glad for Bamboo. You have an awesome herding dog who doesn't seem to be trained but really wants to help you. If trained you could have had them hold the white emus off of you. I had a small handful of sheep and it helped so much when I got my Sheltie cross trained enough to help me.

Yeah, they looked into having her trained, but the place they were going to take her to, for some reason, wanted her there with them, in their care for 1-3 months….I can’t remember how long it was, but it was pretty long and she would have been living with them and they were going to “train” her. Then, the trainers called and said she growled and tried to bite or did bite, can’t remember which, but that they needed to come pick her up. This was the same day they dropped her off. These people weren’t comfortable being filmed. They were definitely not trying to train the right way and there were lots of red flags. So, they were lucky to get Joey back safe and they dodged a bullet with those “trainers”.

So, the issue here is in how Bamboo was raised. Hes not seeing you as Emus, hes seeing himself as a human. He helieves he is meant to mate, be friends with, and flock with you guys. For him, he will never be anywhere close to as enriched by emus than he is with you guys. He didn't grow up learning emu boundaries and language, so he is being alienated by the others. I think spending some good time with Bamboo daily, maybe even have him on a long harness while doing daily chores (wild idea, i know) could really benefit him and his social needs.

Maybe you shoud get some more pannels to make it easyer to get the Emu's back and forth from the pasture to the emu yard. Kinda like a shute, so when you get the Emus trough the pasture gate then they automaticly go to the emu yard instead of wrestling them. Or get a connected gate from pasture to yard.

Hey WHOTH! I have a recommendation to slow down your cows eating the hay bale and to keep the hay dust out of their lungs! So, I have horses and they bury their heads in the hay while eating, causing them to have terrible coughs. This could be the same for your cows too. Also, our horses eat their hay really fast. So, we got these hay nets that go around the entire hay bale. This prevents them from burying their heads in the hay and slows them down eating. Hope this helps! 😊

We had a similar issue with our cockatiel. It was a male and we kept him alone at first to be able to tame him. He completely fixated on my partner. When he was at work he was lonely and started to scream, so we got a female to pair with him. The female tried her best to get his attention but he just wasn't interested. At least the screaming stopped but I felt sorry for the poor female that he kept ignoring for the most part. I think you have to be careful when you raise birds that usually only have one breeding partner. If there are no other mates around they'll easily fixate on you and start showing some unhealthy behavior. Once they're "in love" with you there's no way back.

It seems like you could just do a secondary feed site in that big, big space. I know it is not ideal, but it might be easier than maintaining a second habitat ontop of that big first. Worst case, just divide the big, big space once you have the secondary feed site established.

Well just leave it until we can figure out another space. We don’t want the smaller area there long term.

Since Bamboo ended up being raised as a house pet, may be worth treating him that way for rest of his life now. He could be somewhere close to the house so that there is little more interaction with the family. This should help him. This is the precise reason we must never interact with wild. Wild have nature fear of humans, if we break that barrier, they think us as source of food.
