This one is definitely the best for me (I never red the books, though). Some people prefer the second one because it's darker (it's a human/human conflict, unlike the first one), and the third one... well... it "closes" the story. But for me the first is the most magical one.

Fun fact: the scene where Lucy first finds herself in Narnia was actually the first time the actress sees the set in person, which everyone waited to shoot till on her birthday and got a genuine reaction 😊

Also in that scene the actress that played Lucy was going through growing pains, in fact the director said that she had pain so bad that they had to carry her off the set during that scene they had to wait for her to grow I think about half an inch and they finished this scene

This is a reminder for everyone who is mad about Edmund betraying his siblings for Turkish Delight: In the books, and in the movie, the Turkish Delight had a charm in it that made it highly addictive and made you crave it like drugs. So not only was Edmund, a literal child, given an ego trip by the witch, she literally got him addicted to something that would ensure he would come to see her so he could have more.

I think that's why such a big festival actor as Tilda Swinton agreed to a role in a mainstream fantasy from Disney. Shrek is now considered a classic, but at that time it was a damn revolution. Shrek 2 even participated in the competition program of the Cannes Film Festival. This is a league higher than the Oscar nomination for best cartoon.

@@whitenoisereacts fun fact: the director read the books before taking on the project. He was genuinely a fan which is why he was able to capture the narnia world so well. I highly recommend you guys check out the behind of scenes of narnia on KZbin 😊 they show some of the special effects on set. When Lucy first enters narnia… They blind folded her to not see the set. They wanted to capture her genuine reaction to the fake snow!

I wish they'd explained it better in the movies, but in the books, it says the White Witch's food was enchanted, and anyone who'd had just a bit of the enchanted Turkish delight would keep coming back for more and more and eat until they'd killed themselves. So that's why Edmund was so much easier to manipulate and eager to sell out his family once he ate some Turkish delight. It was magically drugged.

Yeah! I love the movies, but they have to sacrifice some details that help explain what's happening- which is sad, as you never quite get the full picture. I see a lot of people being unfair to Edmund because of this- they don't quite understand. Plus it doesn't help that this takes place in the middle of the Blitz in WW2 and that there was heavy sugar rationing- at that point in the war, they would have been without sugar for several years already, except for maybe some penny candy during Christmas but even that was rare.

This looked rather obvious to me, especially now that I've re-watched the movie recently, since Edmund acted like someone with an addiction. He begged for more and kept coming back no matter how much it cost him, he didn't want to eat anything that wasn't Turkish delight, he showed the behaviour of someone in abstinence and became conscious of what he had done once the witch stopped feeding them to him. And all he did was all just for -candies-, which of course felt off, so I assumed the candies plus everything that was happening in his life had had this effect on him. With that said, they definitely would've benefited from making it much clearer so people could've understood Edmund better and how much under the influence of the witch he really was.

Aslan was portrayed partly by a real lion and Weta digital magic. The lion's name was Zion, and one of the big cats at a wildlife park in NZ. It is all gone now. Zion died years ago of old age.

Simply because on The Lion King, they made the mistake trying to have hyper-realistic animals, therefore erasing any anthropomorphic/emotional expressions.

Fun fact: The dogs that played the wolves had to have their trails CGI'd bc they were SO happy to be in the scenes, and go to the handlers afterwards that had sausages for them, that they were wagging their tails like crazy ☺️

The fight sequence when the sound fades out and it's just a heartbeat as everyone runs towards each other and the sound comes rushing in again at the two sides clashing is so well done!! The animal costuming for this movie is great too.

Technically, this was the first book written in the Chronicles of Narnia but not the first in the timeline. The first in the timeline is "The Magician's Nephew" which tells the story of Narnia's creation, where the White Witch came from, as well as the backstory of the Professor who owns the Wardrobe. These movies are definitely underrated, especially this and "Prince Caspian." "Voyage of the Dawn Treader" is understandably hit-or-miss with audiences but I still think it's worth a watch.

I adored the Narnia movies, I wish that they'd gotten more hype and recognition. Georgie Henley was amazing as Lucy, and gave a captivating performance, despite only being about ten years old at the time. 💗

Also there is a lot going on for Edmund psychologically. First of all he is a kid living through World War 2, who has had to endure air raids and so much fear. Secondly that same war has taken their father away and could kill him any day, and now it has kicked them out of their home and separated them from their mum and lastly his older brother (whom he feels he is overshadowed by) is acting like their dad, which Edmund sees as trying to replace their dad and perhaps even as giving up on their dad ever returning. He is angry at the world but due to his age and size is only able to take it out on his siblings, particularly Lucy who is the only one younger and smaller than him. So when someone comes along and tells him he's special and worth more than Peter he believes her. It does not excuse his behaviour, but it does explain it. At the end of the day he is a hurt, scared and angry kid.

There's also the part in the books where it is explained that the food given to Emand by Jadis is enchanted to be extremely addictive. She gave him a taste which got him magically hooked then cutting him off and sending him home. During the time of war and sugar rationing he lived in, she was the only one he knew of who could give him the sweets, sweets he had no idea were enchanted, that he *needed.* Edmund becomes the man he does because Jadis drugged him and he had to face the ramifications and consequences of that *on his own* until the raid sent by Aslan to rescue him... possibly even for a long time after that

The funny thing is that I watched this movie so many times when I was a kid (like really I knew it by heart) But then I wasn't really interested in actors and stuff And I was like 16 and I showed the movie to my little cousin and then I realised that the movie was starring James McAvoy, Tilda Swinton and that Liam Neison was Aslan's voice.. anyone here want another look at James McAvoy early in his career you can find him in the 2003 movie 'Bright Young Things' directed by Stephen Fry based on the book 'Vile Bodies' by Evelyn Waugh (a man - though his second wife was also called Evelyn) and he's in the first episode of 'Foyle's War', British murder mystery series set in WW2 because people were still killing each other even during a war (can also see early performances from Emily Blunt and David Tennant).

The magician's nephew is my favourite of the books. To do the series properly, they'd have to film The Last Battle early and can it for the end of the run. It's not an easy thing to film from a financial stand point.

@@SobiTheRobot The ending of the Last Battle completely drops the veil of the Christian allegory and becomes straight up "i am jesus and we're going to Heaven" which i don't think any studio would touch for fear of alienating non-Christian audiences. Also the character arc for Susan sucks

C.S Lewis and Tolkien were really good friends, and when Lewis wrote the chronicles he asked Tolkien to read it, and give his thoughts and apparently hated the books.

Not many movies have such a strong message of forgiveness for kids. Edmund is so hateable for much of the story, yet sadly relatable. But once he’s rescued by Aslan, his sin and redemption are dealt with by Aslan, and the siblings can see that he’s repentant. They don’t see if he’s become good yet, but they see he’s humbled and wants their acceptance. And so they give it. They stop worrying about what he’s done and focus on who he is: their brother. It’s a beautiful reconciliation. And the older I get, the more impressed I am with Lucy. What a heroine! What an inspiration! Her gentleness and valiance go hand in hand. Her honesty and humility don’t stop her from having big dreams. She shows that it is no humiliation to have the heart of a servant, and that a servant’s heart can also be a queen’s heart.

I love the professor at the end with the "try me". He was there when Narnia was made as a child and the wardrobe came from wood from a tree that was from an apple from a tree in Narnia. A storm knocked the tree down so Cedric used the wood to make the wardrobe.

In the book " The Magician's Nephew ", the professor is a young boy who travels into Narnia. That's why he was so curious when Peter and Susan told him about Lucy.

The Magician's Nephew is one of my favorite books in the series. The Professor, whose house the Pevensie kids stay at, is in fact the nephew in that story. Digory Kirke is his name and he was one of the first humans to ever see Narnia. The wardrobe in his house is carved from a tree grown from an apple found in Narnia. That is why he said to Lucy at the end that "I don't think you'll get back in that way. You see, I've already tried". He was hoping to go back to Narnia by building the wardrobe but he had learned all he needed to know from Narnia. I could talk all day about these books and movies I love them so much!

I don't think that's why the wardrobe was created, that was just a piece of beautiful furniture made from the Narnian appletree. What Digory is saying in that scene is that he just tried before Lucy came into the room and it didn't work.

Also the reason why Edmund went to White Witch castle is cause in the beginning when she gives Edmund the treats and the hot chocolate she does it with her wand. In the book it explains that the wand has a spell that made Edmund go to her for him to want more of those treats. Like a bait/trap

Honestly, this was the The Lord of the Rings of my childhood. Absolutely love this movie, it's just so magical and I feel that the adventure aspect of it is simply timeless. Also special effects hold up very well. Unfortunately I think in the next movies the quality dropped but this one is fantastic.

I read all the books before I was 8. This is the first book written I'm fairly sure but The Magician's Nephew (the backstory of the professor, the lamppost, the wardrobe and more) is the first chronologically The Turkish delight thing has made a lot more sense to me as I got older. He's a kid and he's in a time where rationing is well underway. I mean it's still not great on his part but I understand it more

We had just finished this book in class when this released in 2005, so our teachers arranged a field trip to the movies! It was so fun!! The entire two classes in my grade went, and got popcorn. I remember we cried seeing Aslan die in real time not just written down.

This movie is pure MAGIC. The stone table scene is so intense, the battle is so iconic...one of my favourite book sagas ever. I don't care people think is for kids, Lewis is for everyone. Absolutely love the Narnia movies, one of my family's favorites to watch, to see the characters grow through each movie and yes the books are very detailed from C.S Lewis' vision from wanting the story and characters to be seen as, I have the Narnia books in the year they were first published, the audiobook set, and box sets that contain the drawings of each character as Lewis saw them with a bio explaining in detail of who they were and the history of their people. I still love getting lost in the fantasy world that Narnia brings everytime we read or watch these movies. Fun fact from New Zealand, the reason the armour/weapons, effects etc. looks so cool I because they were made by Weta Workshop (same studio that did The Lord of the Rings films)! There's a fantastic book you can get on it, and they use to sell replicas of their weapons back in the day.

I can't say how much I LOVE this movie so much enough. It's so amazingly great! I first saw it when it was released on Disney+. Can’t believe I haven’t seen it till Disney+ then at I was like 1 or 2 when it came out. My #1 fav Narnia movie are tied with the first and second one, but I haven't seen the second one since it was added to Disney+ so I need to rewatch it so see. I cried so hard to the point I was gasping/taking deep breathes of air during Aslans death scene. Edmund is so annoying in this movie besides towards the end and all, but definitely like his character more in the second and third one from what I remember. Love y’alls videos! This is the second book in the series after the Magician's Nephew (who happens to be the old professor). That book explains the origins of Narnia, the White Witch, the lamp post and why the wardrobe leads to Narnia. C.S. Lewis and Tolkien were friends and often exchanged what they were working on to get each others opinions.

Narnia is my all-time favorite film franchise and book series so the more people I see react to this the happier I am. I read the entire novel collection in one immensely thick book. The films are relatively great adaptations but regardless the actors make the world come alive alongside the background music you will never forget! I still hum the central theme to this day!

I remember reading The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe in 5th Grade English class, and loving it!! I remember getting to watch the movie afterward and loving every minute of it!! So, I decided to read the other Narnia books since I"d liked that one so much on my own.... Once my Mom let me that is-_- I remember being so upset since this was the first time she wouldn't let me read a book series, and as a HUGE book nerd to this day, it didn't make things any easier on me. Oh, and to this day, I still call our spare room "Spare Oom":) I remember LOVING all 3 movies and have rewatched them all several times by now because I love these movies to pieces!!! I personally LOVE the second one, Prince Caspian, the MOST, but not everyone feels that way!! And yes, please watch the other ones when you have the time! Oh, btw did you guys know that C.S. Lewis and Tolkien knew each other, and were even friends???

I loved this book as a child. There was a movie made for BBC, the full thing is on KZbin somewhere if you're ever interested in watching sometime and it follows the book pretty close. It's a bit dated but it's a combo of live action with some animation mixed in there. Also the reason Edmund was so easy to manipulate was because the food had a magic spell on it, in the book he felt sick and guilty after eating it but wanted more anyway from the magic. Some people have also compared the children in Narnia to the Hogwarts founders. Edmund is compared to Slytherin, Susan to Ravenclaw, Peter for Gryffindor and Lucy for Hufflepuff.

One thing this movie does really well, at least for me, is nail large, close, sibling dynamics. You clearly see rivalry, envy, anger, annoyance, and all of those things. But the only times you see Edmund give up information that he knows is dangerous (remember folks, he's a child) is when his life is at risk. Sometimes, instinct just takes over. It is clear that, despite their many personality clashes, these 4 characters love each other. That's something that I, as the youngest of five, have both seen, and can relate to

First thank you hero tier patrons! This made my day. As far as the trilogy goes, the first one is my favorite (and it is super faithful to the book). The second one is also worth watching. Although it is not as faithful the changes they made I think added some good themes and topics of discussion (although the book is still better). The third movie is pretty terrible, and it is the main reason the series did not continue (The second movie did not do well, so Disney sold the rights to 20th Century Fox who made the third one). You can definitely tell that there was a major change between the second and third movie. That being said the ending of the third movie always makes my grandmother cry, so it might be worth the watch. Would you ever consider doing a book discussion one the Chronicles of Narnia like you did with Harry Potter? I know your channel has changed a lot since then and you are all pretty busy, but as a book nerd I would love to tag along if you did

I love this film so much. As a child I was obsessed with the animated version of the story, and as soon as I was old enough I read all the books. So as soon as this film came out I was straight to the cinema to see it and bought it as soon as it was out on DVD, where I furthered my obsession by watching all of the special features on it many times over. One of my favourite things I learnt (other than how much work went in to the sets, weapons and effects) was subtle things about costume, for instance how the White Witch's costume gets less and less pristine white and cold looking as her power wanes, as if her outfits are melting along with the real snow, to the point that she is in the dark grey at the stone table as all her power of winter is gone and in the final battle she is wearing Aslan's mane that they cut off! Amazing touches that are so easy to just pass over.

I'm sure others have mentioned this, but the Witch creating the warm drink and Turkish Delight from snow isn't just a "Summon Food & Drink" potion... we see when Nikabrik the dwarf tosses the empty glass away that it turns back into snow, so there's no added nutrition to it. One of my very few complaints about the movie is that the book's narration makes it clear that by consuming the drink and Turkish delight, Edmund has freely if unknowingly chosen to consume some of the witch's magic, which makes him believe her over his family and the beavers and corrupts him a little. He still had an attitude before then, but the potion in his system brought out his worse side. It's a bit like eating food in fairyland and belonging to the Fey, or Persephone eating the pomegranate seeds and being bound to the underworld for part of the year. Also, Turkish Delight, or Locum, is a kind of candy that has a consistency somewhere between gummy bears and soft caramel and is usually covered in powdered sugar and can have many flavors but popularly includes rose petal flavor and sometimes nuts. I've tried it and it isn't much favorite sweet, but I admit I'd like to try it fresh and some of the other flavors from a confectioner who makes it on site than the pre-made packaged kinds or my poor attempts at cooking them myself. Also, when Peter says to Susan that she was trying to be smart, I believe he means like a smart aleck or a smarty-pants... not actually intelligent but snotty and know-it-all-y. Prince Caspian is great and Voyage of the Dawn Treader is beautiful and cool, but the latter suffers a bit because Disney didn't realize that a sea journey story is a different style of storytelling than a dramatic final battle, and trying to make some overarching villain felt forced... also, by the time they got to making that one, Disney's expectations that the Chronicles of Narnia would suit them as a rival to the Lord of the Rings (which had Tolkien's brilliance and Peter Jackson's devotion as well as the fantastic acting and design and filming team) and to Harry Potter (which was super popular even if I think C.S. Lewis is a far better writer than She Who Shall Not Be Named) were proven over optimistic. Each of the Chronicles of Narnia is a different style of story and each tends to vary the cast as few remain through the entire history of Narnia, so it isn't going to let us get as close to the characters as either of the other two fantasy great series do, though it is perhaps the defining "Normal people go back and forth to a fantasy world and become heroes" fantasy example and C.S. Lewis's worldbuilding and mixing of different mythical and fairy tale elements (Greco Roman myths, talking animals, Santa, Germanic/Norse aspects dwarves and turning into dragons thanks to being greedy on magic treasure, semi-original types like monopods & humanoid stars, Djinn-Giant-hybrids like the Witch and human-fairy or human-dwarf hybrids in other books, displaced humans from our world who settled in the world of Narnia, etc) is pretty amazing and original and unique as you guys put it in that he managed to make it all work and more or less suspend our disbelief and accept the setting as uniquely Narnian. And yes, I have read the books several times over (I really really am disappointed they never made the Magician's Nephew, Silver Chair or Last Battle).

The air raid scene and the scene where the Pevensie children evacuate London always breaks my heart. World War II must have been a terrifying time. I cannot even imagine the things that generation went through. Fact: The co-producer Douglas Gresham is one of the stepsons of C.S. Lewis.

If you guys want something in a similar vein taking place in a similar time, I highly recommend Bedknobs and Broomsticks. Not as dark a story, it’s a Disney/Mary Poppins style film that for some reason no one seems to watch anymore. It’s also based on a book, but admittedly I’ve never read it.

Yes, this is not the first book chronologically, but it is the one that gives the best introduction into the world of Narnia. The other books assume you have read this one. Those deal with other things, like how the Professor knows Narnia and were this ever-burning gas lamp comes from. And yes, it is a very close adaption. That said, battles have been mostly glanced over in older books. Faun is the Ancient Roman word for Satyr.

When I was little, I remember watching a cartoon version of this on TV and I thought it was so magical. It was my favorite fantasy as a child and probably even now. I didn't read the book series until I was grown. They are definitely much easier to read then LOTR books. 😂 This live version is the best adaptation of the first book. The soundtrack is one of my favorites too! The other movies are not as good.

I love when Lucy pulls the blanket off the wardrobe and later when she tries to go in and the candle gets blown out.. there is a hilarious blooper where one of the crew on set is in the wardrobe and you can hear them try to blow out the candle for a good 30 seconds and the actress just has to stand there and look excited 🤣🤣🤣 We read the books as kids...then I think this movie came out around Christmas (probably due to Santa making a brief appearance).. ever since then my mom brings out Turkish delight at Christmas and it has become a sweet nostalgic tradition.

Fun fact: the White Witch claimed that she was human, and that she had the right to rule Narnia (since Aslan, after creating Narnia, made humans the rightful rulers of it). But that was just one of her lies. She looks human, but she's actually a descendant of both Lilith (a genie/demon, and Adam's first wife) and the giants. That's why she's so evil according to Mrs Beaver, in the books. You can have two opinions about humans (they're good or they're evil), but you can only have one opinion about beings who at first look human, but are not (they're totally evil).

The scenery in this movie actually ranks up there with the scenery in LotR for me, just beautiful and stunning. I'm going to be forever sad that we never got the full movie series as good as this and Prince Caspian, but I'm glad I at least get two well-made movies that I can love this much. This movie actually came out in 2005, which makes the animation even more impressive. But I too love the amount of practical effects in it, which I was also really important when the main actors were so young (although kids are usually great at pretending😊). I have read all the books, both in order and individually. When I was a child myself, I preferred the books that had the Pevensies in them, but as an adult my favourite books are actually The Horse and His Boy and The Last Battle.

The mice that gnaws of the ropes are shot sepertely because Anna Popplewell (Susan) had fear of mice when it was filmed (though she admitted in the commentary for Prince Caspian that she almost got over it when that movie was shot, and were more willing to be filming with Reepicheep even though he's a CGI character).

The Final Battle is one of the best fantasy battle scenes I've ever seen. The special effects, the music, everything was just so. Epic. I can watch thar sequence over and over and never get tired of it
