Bruh it was like that in Oblivion too. You'll be walking the beach with happy go lucky music on, exploring the world, and then outta nowhere the battle music turns on. I'm wondering wtf is going on, only to turn around and see one small mud crab crawling straight for me. Kill it in one hit, and the battle music instantly cuts off and the cheerful music instantly cuts back in.

Saying Ittadakimasu is right actually. We were under the impression that Bethesda's games being glitchy was the norm for a game of that scale. Then we saw The Witcher 3, and we begin to realize how corporate bethesda really is. They could fix everything, but they want to rush it out like the cunts at Ubisoft.

There is a Fire Daemon enemy, and a Frost Golem which can be seen as a proto Frost Atronach, but the setting in Arena skewed much closer to a traditional DnD custom setting than a unique one. Daggerfall gave the series it's own names for a lot of things and basic theology, then Redguard and Morrowind made the setting it's own unique thing unlike any other.

Most of the pre-Morrowind games had randomly-generated terrain. To accomodate for the amount of content needed for a hand-build city, most games just put in what's necessary to make an area feel like a city at first glance. That being said, I do wish some things were just bigger in Skyrim(game). The ratio of students to teachers in the College of Winterhold just feels odd.

@@connordarvall8482 That's actually the One thing I hope there isn't in TES VI. There's no High Rock specific magic guild in lore and based on the feudal society Bretons have, private apprenticeship seems more likely. Traveling with a badass wizard on all kinds of research trips, having an actual fleshed out character to get attached to so he can be Gandalfed/Half Blood Princed on the last quest. I mean, the Synod could have some schools there but I'd love to be able to choose between the two. You know what, it doesn't make sense for an independent Hammerfell to have any magical institutions so it Kind of has to be both provinces in order to not lock you out of having a dedicated mage character.

@greatersabre It's not that Arena didn't cover deep lore, ES lore accumulated over time (books from previous games reappear along with new ones). Arena did establish Tiber Septim, create locations like the Labyrinthian and Dagoth Ur, and name many cities which appeared later. But, lacked most things you'd associate with the later games, like how it had no Daedra (added in Daggerfall), not to mention how Kajiit were human and Argonians looked like the thing from the black lagoon.

Kevin Meisenbacher how can somebody dislike Arena or Daggerfall?!? Back in my day i've spend months completing these games!! It was unnreal, i thought there was no limitation to games, everything ran so smooth and those graphics were mind blowing.. A month ago i downloaded Daggerfall again since its free now, started to play and the immersion came again.. I dare to say i almost cried remembering my childhood. I remember the difficulty of these games, i was kinda surprised how i managed so well when i was young... TES marked my childhood and thus surrounding me.. My cousin, everytime he went dine to my home he would watch me play on my computer for a few quests.. I remember him saying, is there no end to game's growth? I could have sworn graphics/combat system couldn't be much better than that and look at the series now. OF course, many things have been forgotten with the newer series.. Able to craft ur magic spells, counter price when selling stuff, the huge map and variety of stuff, etc... That's why i keep coming back to the older series to remember how it was like..

limitations in technology back in the day is exactly the Super Secret Weapon that kept developers' and publishers' EGOS under control, for the most part... just look at what happened to most major game franchises once there was unrestricted technology, most of these franchises lost sense of what made them appealing to players in the first place, because tah-dah (drum roll..... here it comes.... wait for it....) that's how the developers were thinking all the time... their games were great as a lucky accident, not by their "miraculous other-wordly" design

This just makes me realize how much Bethesda downsized the maps. Oblivion had actual cities (especially Imperial City), but then Skyrim's barely has more than two dozen accessible buildings each. They could've at least tried to make Whiterun more of a hub for Skyrim's activity, it actually feels extremely isolated from the rest of the provinces.

TheUltimoSniper my main problem with these games. better cities mod and the other graphic mod improve greatly on tes4 city landscape and expended towns and cities and such mix in with jk Skyrim is more life like compared to the other mix in with the rooming NPC mods in those. mods saved these games really. but this also lacks a lot of well anything. it's huge sure but lacking in life. but to be fair it's a pretty insanely old game.

Artorias of the Abyss I remember when I entered Solitude for the first time after playing Skyrim with several characters without ever having set foot in there before, except for the last Stormcloak quest, where you attack the city and kill General Tulius. Seemed pretty big at first. Once I went and walked further into the city though, it felt every bit as small as the rest of the holds, because it doesn't have anything more to do in it than any of the other holds, and there's hardly even more actual space to walk around in Solitude than the other holds.

I like Skyrim but yeah...cities felt like a downgrade from Oblivion. Solitude, Markarth, Riften, and Windhelm are the only places that have even a remote 'city' vibe even with their size. All the other places just seems like towns, especially Skyrim's 'hub' Whiterun. Nothing of the scale of Oblivion's Imperial City. I may not play it much anymore (being a console player, Skyrim is the only one with mods and I like how it plays better anyway) but it's cities had more of a 'city vibe' than Skyrim's.

Those things matters a lot, but if your character is a mage, and the magic you cast is shitty, it fails and it just happens. I dont know you but i would feel dissapointed. If you are a warrior and you swing your sword and the only thing that you see is the health bar going down. I dont know you but i would feel dissapointed. If you are a rogue and your arrow just go to the ground because the physics applied to the combat system are shit. I would feel dissapointed. Hurdy Skyrim was not impressive at all with graphics, it's just that Bethesda had a terrible engine used for the game that prevented them to have a decently populated city or it would be otherwise unplayable. I get that later games needed to have actual characters but something about the generic but huge nature of cities in daggerfall and arena make them feel so much more real. Maybe it would work better in an MMO. Example: Shop owners telling you they're the best in the area when they're the only option for miles around vs a dozen shops of varying quality competing for daggerfall's market share

I've played Skyrim, Oblivion and Morrowind, I don't like how zenimax have created the cities in ESO, the streets are too wide and bare for one. They should leave TES to Bethesda.
