@FeelingShred3 жыл бұрын
limitations in technology back in the day is exactly the Super Secret Weapon that kept developers' and publishers' EGOS under control, for the most part... just look at what happened to most major game franchises once there was unrestricted technology, most of these franchises lost sense of what made them appealing to players in the first place, because tah-dah (drum roll..... here it comes.... wait for it....) that's how the developers were thinking all the time... their games were great as a lucky accident, not by their "miraculous other-wordly" design

This just makes me realize how much Bethesda downsized the maps. Oblivion had actual cities (especially Imperial City), but then Skyrim's barely has more than two dozen accessible buildings each. They could've at least tried to make Whiterun more of a hub for Skyrim's activity, it actually feels extremely isolated from the rest of the provinces.
@forresttilghman90088 жыл бұрын
TheUltimoSniper my main problem with these games. better cities mod and the other graphic mod improve greatly on tes4 city landscape and expended towns and cities and such mix in with jk Skyrim is more life like compared to the other mix in with the rooming NPC mods in those. mods saved these games really. but this also lacks a lot of well anything. it's huge sure but lacking in life. but to be fair it's a pretty insanely old game.

Artorias of the Abyss I remember when I entered Solitude for the first time after playing Skyrim with several characters without ever having set foot in there before, except for the last Stormcloak quest, where you attack the city and kill General Tulius. Seemed pretty big at first. Once I went and walked further into the city though, it felt every bit as small as the rest of the holds, because it doesn't have anything more to do in it than any of the other holds, and there's hardly even more actual space to walk around in Solitude than the other holds.
@RaxusXeronos7 жыл бұрын
I like Skyrim but yeah...cities felt like a downgrade from Oblivion. Solitude, Markarth, Riften, and Windhelm are the only places that have even a remote 'city' vibe even with their size. All the other places just seems like towns, especially Skyrim's 'hub' Whiterun. Nothing of the scale of Oblivion's Imperial City. I may not play it much anymore (being a console player, Skyrim is the only one with mods and I like how it plays better anyway) but it's cities had more of a 'city vibe' than Skyrim's.

In a Rpg matters all, Is combat the main thing? no. But a bad combat system can fuck up a rpg game. Yeah, history, dialogues, possibility of role-playing, music. Those things matters a lot, but if your character is a mage, and the magic you cast is shitty, it fails and it just happens. I dont know you but i would feel dissapointed. If you are a warrior and you swing your sword and the only thing that you see is the health bar going down. I dont know you but i would feel dissapointed. If you are a rogue and your arrow just go to the ground because the physics applied to the combat system are shit. I would feel dissapointed. And all that things just make me realize that its a game, and when im playing a RPG game i want to feel like if i was in the game.

Well there are other games with large citys like assassins creed for example. i honestly wouldnt mind if not everything in an elder scrolls game would be accessible, as long as the surroundings are realistic. Also, Skyrim would have been a lot better if they'd used some cutscenes instead of ingame animations only. Seeing the City-State of Windhelm getting conquered by a hand full of soldiers felt just ridiculous.

Hurdy Skyrim was not impressive at all with graphics, it's just that Bethesda had a terrible engine used for the game that prevented them to have a decently populated city or it would be otherwise unplayable.
