Aaaahhh, my old stomping ground. Grew up in Blenheim and spent many a time at Whites Bay, Robinhood Bay etc. Funnily enough, we also called it "Cave Rock" when we were kids. Always visited Whites Bay when my kids were young on our family trips back to NZ. Still looks great...

Great video. We will have to explore the area. Marcel sees those logging trucks and reckons he would take Beast there. Hmmmm I might walk. Didn’t realise Sophie’s knee brace was magic…. 🙃

The roads pretty hard you could probably get in with nearly anything no drop offs though Sarah so you'll be aright. Some other nice beaches if you continue on down the road as well.

Great video Mike, it was awesome getting over the hill from home to meet you guys and hang out in our big back yard. Today I was back out there, doing a crayfish dive over the far side of Port Underwood, near where that power cable heads across to the North Island. Hopefully we will see you back in Marlborough later in the year.

Agree, great DOC campsite. How was it driving up that hill with such a big caravan? We hope to do the same as you by year's end, so watching to see how you all get on. Hopefully, the weather is kind to you down south.
@leopardsgowild2 жыл бұрын
Hey there, it was fine going up the big hill, this is the only sand beach in Blenheim so lots of locals come out for the day so it can get busy. Better to travel with the traffic instead of against it, so if you go out in the afternoon, all the traffic will be heading out , and back into town... We arrived quite late cause we just got off the ferry. Towing to whites beach is all tarseal. Exciting Full time travel is really fun.

Hey mate, yea there were Paua in with the mussells as well, I think they were all undersized... My dive trip with Garth was the first time I have ever dived for Paua, so it was all a bit new to me... I kept checking out the spot where I got those mussells and found a few big cracks loaded with Paua at Whites Bay.

North Island weather. Oh yeah! Hope you're getting better weather than we have been getting. Gorgeous part of the country. Shame about that gorgeous beach with the power pylons marching across and the logging slash in the background. Pleasant travels.

AGAIN ! Beautiful places-- you all are truly blessed. Is the logging "sustainable " ?
@leopardsgowild2 жыл бұрын
Hey Tom magic area aye... yes the logging is all productive forest, the turn around from harvest to replanting is very fast. You can not log our native timber, this is all pine.

Had to sympathise with those truck drivers, not a good road for those trucks. Ive never seen plankton like that before, so cool!!

It was a very rough road, not the road you want yo take a large caravan on and meet a loggingvtruck anyway.... I might be wrong about this water creatures they might be called selps or something like that...

Hi Mike, are you using your gears when going downhill? Just asking because we have never had the brake heating issues you are having. Whites Bay is not a big hill compared to what's coming, or may already have arrived for you by now😁
@leopardsgowild2 жыл бұрын
Hey mate thanks for reaching out... we definitely have a brave imbalance on the caravan one brake on each side was hot the other just warm. We have a manual truck and actually were in 1st gear to use the engine for braking, so was surprised I could still smell the brakes when we arrived, was only going 25km an hr smell not to bad though... yes there are some big climbs to come which is fine its the decents I worry about... also we were fully loaded going down

@@leopardsgowild we also have a NextGen van (Tekapo). I was towing it with a Ranger. I reckon these dual cab utes are not cut out for towing such a heavily van - even though many kiwis do. that they are 'rated' to 3.5ton is crazy. We had a couple too many times the tail was wagging the dog. since got a bigger towing vehicle - totally different experience.
@leopardsgowild2 жыл бұрын
@@richardsimpson1836 the towing of the van is sweet, plenty of power on the ups, the downs are the issue... talking to other ppl they tell me some of the big downs aren't a problem gor the caravan our brakes aren't working evenly on the caravan apparently it's s pretty simple adjustment by the mechanic...watch this space

@@richardsimpson1836 yea I hear ya mate, lots of caution required it's not like towing a garden trailer with camping gear that's for sure... if seen a fee people on other groups talking about the wobbles and sway issues due to imbalanced weights... seems there's always something to be resolved with big rigs aye..
