27 million data points is 5 minutes of stereo music at 44.1kHz
@MaradnusАй бұрын
so basically the more people that buy it & use it are basically contributing to the data points.. -.-
@anteshellАй бұрын
How did you come into that conclusion? My math cannot quite math it out. 27M samples divided by 44.1k samples/second is roughly one minute of audio. Not sure how stereo works, should I divide or multiply that by two if anything, but which ever way it is, it's 0.5, 1 or 2 minutes of stereo audio. How did you get five minutes out of that? Consider this as off-topic question. Not interested about the datapoints or Optimus' PR jargon, just curious about your equation.
@zsliu98Ай бұрын
@@anteshell 27000000/44100 \approx 612.24 \approx 10 minutes, for stereo it is 5 minutes. Another way to verify it is to think of the size of a floating-point wav file.
@benjaminmichaut9996Ай бұрын
@@anteshell That's it, I'm dividing by 2. 5 min in stereo has as many samples as 10 min in mono. Your explanations seems right so your maths could be wrong. 27 000 000 samples / 44 100 samples/sec = 612 sec = 10.2 min and not just 1 Do you have a zero missing somewhere ? (or have I ?)

I'd be curious if you used this to create a mastered version and then put the mastered version in to see if it accepts it and says it doesn't need anything. Because if it modifies the original to make it mastered and then wants to modify the mastered version, it would be proof positive it's snake oil.
@pocket1684Ай бұрын
Good idea. I have a feeling it will modify even a bernie grundman master in my experience, AI is kind of like many presets on plugins and plugin instruments. Some are good but the real creativity comes when a human is adjusting the knobs to match the song at hand, instead of a generalization.
@inthemixАй бұрын
I’ve tested this with every auto/AI mastering plugin on the market. They all keep changing the master over and over.
@anteshellАй бұрын
No, it would not prove anything like that. What you propose would require that there is one universal right answer for mastering which every AI strives for and what your master track already satisfied. I mean, by using your logic you could prove actual mastering engineers are snake-oil by doing a blind test; provide a few engineers randomly either the final mix or master, and if you receive anything that does not null with your original master, every test participant would be considered snake-oil salesmen.
@prodigalretrodАй бұрын
@@anteshell That's a different scenario though - what's being proposed here is to feed the plugin its own results, which it should theoretically agree with (more or less) - as opposed to expecting multiple different AIs (or MEs) to concur. In my experience, when running a subsequent instance of an auto EQ plugin, eg Sonible SmartEQ, it will often make the same suggestions again, even after the first plugin instance has already applied these recommended changes.
@inthemixАй бұрын
@@anteshell That’s an entirely different scenario. We are talking about asking an engineer (or software) to master and remaster the same track over and over and see if they make big changes each time.

Check this out! I tested this plugin some moths ago. They told me they were working on a major update to be released in August. Not seeing it. The EQ is excellent. It is honestly one of the best EQs I have ever used. Not because it has digital tubes or iron and stuff, but because the EQ bands work together dynamically. Just try and change one band and you will see. This is much more like a hardware-like feel which you can only achieve with 2 hands. This is great. I love that. I still don't know if the AI does only affect the EQ curve or if there is something going on under the hood, like some resonances, loudness or something else. It would not make sense to have the AI only make some EQ adjustments and leave the rest as it is. I still don't know what is going on. For the price...I mean you can get Logic for 200$ with a mastering AI suite that's probably just as good as this one here. So I think 100$ is too much. That said, it's still less than Ozone although it can do much less. But I don't like the sound of Ozone. Not using it. I love the EQ. The compressor is great, too. The rest is good enough.

Fun vid as always -- thanks! Yeah, it's sad that I'm trying to understand what need this plugin is trying to fulfill that Sonible and Izotope haven't: is it another matching EQ in a channel strip format? If it is an AI matching EQ, I suppose it could be recognizing the kind of music it's listening to, select from popular songs in that genre, and apply that profile as a starting point; yet, that might be all this plug can provide: a starting point, since it doesn't seem to allow re-routing/intercepting the signal path or include any user-selectable modules to contour the sound further... anyway, the output still sounds good and this could absolutely find a place with musicians/mixers who want to preview how their song will sound after mastering! -- Happy Mixing! :)

My experience with AI driven plugins is that they are more 'human' than we think. My proof: run an AI plugin, like 'smart eq' for example, and let it 'correct' your work, print it. Run the same AI plugin again on the 'corrected' track and watch it re-analyze and do more corrections! Just like all the human mix engineers I know, they're never satisfied.

I'm trying out the plug in as well and I feel like it's really close to being something amazing but to achieve an incredible master I still needed some additional plug ins to take me where I wanted to go. Like you, I felt like, if it's AI it should just listen to my song and say okay, here' the EQ curve you need (with options), here's the amount of compression I recommend, the spatial width I would do and here's the amount of loudness I recommend. Overall I feel like it's good, but I'm thinking I've got limiters that sound better than this one. I have mixed feelings about it right now. That said, I was able to achieve some pretty amazing results very quickly so that's a plus point. I can always spend the time on a serious master and make it sound incredible, but I'm looking for something that can give me great sounding results really fast for when I don't have time to do a proper master or for rough mixes and to be able to get to some of my back catalog. I have works that I can't spend a couple days working on but if I can get it sounding decent in a couple hours, I'm there.

Do we (mastering engineers) really feel threatened by AI mastering? I'm not, for the following reasons. Why would anyone spend hundreds of hours writing music and lyrics, $$ thousands on recording and mixing, all the hours of editing, etc, etc, and then go and put ALL your blood, sweat and tears in the hands of an AI algorithm for mastering? GEEZ guys....use a real mastering engineer, a human that you can talk to and get constructive feedback from. It's NOT expensive to use a qualified engineer in a good studio. I and other mastering engineers offer a free track, so you've got nothing to lose. You can then compare it to AI mastering. Don't risk selling yourself short, your music and career are worth it.
