Whitetail Deer Vocalization Snort and Warning Foot Stomp

This is the sound and foot stomp that every whitetail lover or hunter needs to know. This is a doe, snorting. Snorting is an intense blowing sound produced by expelling air through the nostrils, best described as a loud whew, or whew-whew-whew. Deer that see or hear a disturbance but cannot smell the source often use repeated low snorts, foot stomping, head bobbing and tail flipping, possibly to alert other deer of danger

Amazing. I was hunting yesterday sitting inside some pines and a deer creeped came up behind me and began wheezing. It scared the crap out of me because I did not hear it creep up on me. After knowing where I was it ran away.

Ha! I was just sitting in the woods meditating at dusk after a nice trail run. I was 20 minutes into it with eyes closed when I heard that sound about 15 feet away. Same response as you -- scared the crap out of me! I could just barely see the deer's white tail flicking in the moonlight, so figured out what it was, but was still too spooked to finish the meditation...

happend to me last night. heard walking slowly turned my head saw her bout 50 yards away... she blew amd jogged off

Happened to me last night as well! Our hunting association began its deer season and I was sitting in woods next to a small hay field, A doe came with its calf, all too close to my taste. I tried to raise my rifle inc by inch when the doe looked the other way. I had almost got the lens at my eye when it alarmed, herding the calf into woods first. Then it satrted to snort and stomp at 25 yards from me , only to run away when i stood up. Tough luck, but then again a good example of motherly instinct.

Our herd does this at dusk when we watch them from our porch only 30 ft away from their favorite feeding spot, but they don’t run off anymore. At night so many show up it’s like a mosh pit.
