I’d love to plant them in the fall. Unfortunately Chest Hill Outdoors only ships them to our regional Rural King stores in the spring. I planted 8. Lost 2. 7 galllon containers. I would have bought 10 or more this fall if available.
@Whitetail_Properties3 жыл бұрын
They offer full mail order and you can place it directly on their website! They are smaller sizes than what you can get in box stores, though. They also ship during specific times depending on the customers location!

Hello from Greece. My English isn't good. I need your help. I pick up the chestnuts in October.. How can I take care of them to make roots at spring? In frigerator? In soil or in bag air tighed?
@Whitetail_Properties2 жыл бұрын
What did you do with the nuts when you found them last October?
@ginnisgrigorakis13902 жыл бұрын
@@Whitetail_Properties i planted at spring in a mountain above my town which has burned. But I make a mistake. I make them sprout at automn and winter and i don't have a green house. I want to reforest the mountain.
@Whitetail_Properties2 жыл бұрын
@@ginnisgrigorakis1390 If they sprouted lat autumn then they wont be viable this year if they were not planted. If you want to reforest the burned area, freeze the seeds or keep them very cool and dry over winter, let them germinate and come out of dormancy in the spring, and then plant them.
@ginnisgrigorakis13902 жыл бұрын
@@Whitetail_Properties tell me the best way to freeze them. In a bag air tighed at the fridge? Without soil or anything else? For how long? October to April for example?

I planted a very small chesnut tree outside in a zone 6. do you think it will survive?

As long as you give it plenty of water during the growing season it should do just fine.

Question: It's now late May here in southern Ohio, zone 6B, i just ordered 3 Chinese Chestnuts....I plan on putting these in 5 gal buckets for the summer, then transplant them to the ground around early October....do you agree w/ this plan..? Or would it be better to just plant them in the ground when they arrive in early June...? & water them often....? i want to add 3 Dunstan Chestnut trees in early October...
@Whitetail_Properties7 ай бұрын
We would say go with your plan A. Put them in 5 gallon buckets and transplant them in October as they start to go dormant. Then you can plant your dunstans at the same time too.
@ginnisgrigorakis13902 жыл бұрын
Can I freeze chestnuts for 6 months and then make them germinate? October to April for example
@Whitetail_Properties2 жыл бұрын
Yes, you could freeze them, but a cool dry dark place would be sufficient to get them through the winter until next spring.

@@Whitetail_Properties in a bag? Without soil or something else? Only the chestnuts? Thank you very much
@Whitetail_Properties2 жыл бұрын
@@ginnisgrigorakis1390 If you had a vacuum sealed bag that would be ideal, but a normal ziplock bag would work too. No soil. You can store almost all seeds in similar conditions as well.

@troybrake568611 ай бұрын
They don't guarantee anything, I went to whitetail hill chestnut cause they guarantee them if you buy a tube, I'm not spending 50 dollars a tree and 10 dollars for a tube to not get some kind assurance, I'm not rich and work way to hard to plant a tree that don't like being transplanted ( persimmons) that guarantee was a selling point for me, i even already had cart ready to go on chestnut hill and I done some more research, glad i did, if they would step up and give a guarantee i would buy from them! And the prices are almost identical! Good luck!

Well the Dunstan wasn’t necessarily designed by nature since it’s a American x Chinese cross and it looks and taste nothing like an American Chestnut, mostly Chinese. The Dunstans can still get blight as mine have but none have died and they still are producing nuts. They will not grow anywhere and you guys didn’t mention the PH they like or anything. They do make an awesome tree for wildlife but Dunstans aren’t the greatest tasting nut either. True Americans are the best tasting nuts if you can find them and they are a few still producing before the blight takes them out. I’ll be planting about 250 more trees in the next coming weeks. This cross 'Peach' × 'Qing' × 'Kohr'. The best, tasting producing nuts I’ve ever tasted besides an American.

I have land and I want to help save and bring the glory of the chest nut back. I'm trying to research so much and I hope the land here in AL is going to be good.

The dunstan chestnut is a hybridized American and Chinese chestnut. It is the closest thing to an American chestnut that there is. Bob Wallace (founder of Chestnut Hill Nursery) grandfather Robert Dunstan is the one who grafted one of the few remaining American chestnuts with the blight resistance Chinese chestnut and created the Dunstan chestnut. They're hardy like the American chestnut and produce a nut much larger and tastier than the Chinese chestnut. Hope this is helpful!
@revan12028 ай бұрын
@Whitetail_Properties it does, I'm still on the fence to plant hybrid vs original I'm a believer in let nature sort the strongest from the weakest evolution. No chemicals, but ensure the strongest live and grow.
@thomasjcorson75025 ай бұрын
There is still a lot of American chestnut trees some places sell pure American chestnut seeds altho they still might fall to the blight eventually some of them seem to have more of a resistance and thrive I believe one is called American chestnut research

They are a hybrid of American and Chinese chestnuts. Cross bred by doctor Robert Dunstan. They are resistant to the blight that killed all of the American chestnuts.
