Whitley having Diahann Carroll as her mother was a duo unmatched. The queens of boujieness and high class okay 💅🏿??

Although Whitley did it first, and I love her, Toni Childs represented for the dark skinned black girls and usually that’s not seen. Usually when they show women who represent that soft life, they’re usually light skinned or biracial like Whitley.

Nah. Sheryl Lee Ralph beat her to it in the '80s on It's/Making a Living. And Lark Voorhees from Saved by the Bell.
@ddoubleu1709 ай бұрын
@@JAWrightonline I wouldn’t necessarily consider Lark dark skinned. She could’ve definitely been considered light skinned in certain circles; just not light bright.

Whitley, Zendaya, Fran Fine, and Audrey Hepburn have been my fashion icons for forever. I always love revisiting their work to see the styling and careful way they tie together their fashion to show another side to the characters without overpowering. The clothes don’t wear them, they wear the clothes with such fluidity and grace it is amazing to see. They have nurtured my love for fashion since I was a kid and I’m thankful for such icons on screen.

i love this video. All of the style icons that you talk about are wonderful. May I suggest Sandra Clark from 227? Her outfits were always wonderful (especially in the later seasons)😀, her hair was big and fabulous, and her walk was everything! They've got the whole show on Prime now and its one of my favorites. No one ever talks about her so I was hoping you would. Thank you so much for all the great work!

You said a MOUTHFUL about how we’re being portrayed in the media when you travel out of the country THOSE are the images that play of us and they think all black women act like that, I’m so sick and tired of seeing the same exact acts from every mainstream music artist like can we get some variety 🙄
@Wayrose23896 Жыл бұрын
Everything you said was on point! Whitley is my ultimate fav when it comes to fashion on sitcoms next to Fran from the Nanny (although she’s not black) she’s the one who introduced me to Chanel, Dior, etc and now I’m my own Whitley (everyone calls me bougie but I don’t care) we need more representation like this in the media and more diversity for black women because me, my friends, and family are all like this and do not fit the status quo that is pushed in media today and are often called “white girls” for this reason but are far from that and don’t want to be a white girl. I just love fashion Niaomi Campbell, Iman, Tyra, Kimora Lee etc.
@iconicallyiconic Жыл бұрын
It’s so sad that when black women don’t push a stereotype then they are labeled “ white girls “ as if black women are a monolith, we are made up of all different personalities, backgrounds and more. When we love luxury and feminine, girly things and dressing up we’re told it’s wanting to be like a “white girl” or “we’re stuck up” and think we’re “ better than somebody” I mean the ignorance that some of our people have is quite concerning You do you babe, don’t let anyone deter you from being authentically you and wanting the finer things in life , everyone else has it why can’t black women 🥂💗

Whitley was that girl and all of her fits were on point she was the flyest on tv 🛍 and Yes yes yes!!! speak on how these people be so pressed about women wanting the finer things in life they are so mad that the women that they want don't want them so they try to " humble " them or tell them their thinking is wrong because they don't meet her standards I swear some of them are completely unhinged and shouldn't even be allowed near women lmao honestly.

Loved Whitley. She was what i imagine Nellie Olsen from Little House on the Prairie would be if she went to college. Spoiled, petulant, confident, strong. I’ll always remember Nellie looking down on the townspeople by raising her nose and saying, “Country girls”. That’s Whitley at Hillman.

That's funny because she was from Richmond, Virginia & in the first season of the show, she looked down on "City Girls" like Denise Huxtable in that episode when Dwayne missed curfew due to tutoring Denise & he had to pass through Whitley's room to get out of the dorm & people got the wrong impression of what happened.

I looooovvveee you SOOOO much for this video OMG!!!!!!!!!!! You solved my fashion puzzle sissi! Guuuuuurrrrll!! Okay so I LOVE leather. That's my girl. And an ol nasty vinyl but lately I've been feeling like I want to upgrade it. At first I felt like "should I change my look??" But I couldn't bring myself to get rid of the edgy leather that I have coined to be my style (every man I date KNOW I'm gonna show up with leather lol). But after watching this video I'm like OMG!! Guuuuuurrrrll it's meant for me to incorporate other materials and looks into my style. Leather is the foundation but I wanna add fur and satin (you confirmed it in this video). I've been playing around with fur with like hats and bags. And I've been throwing satin into the mix JUST A LITTLE bit but after this video, I finally know!! And this is right on time because I'm talking to an ex-NFL player who is a plain jane so I wanna be an example of fashion do's!! Thank you boo!!!!!
