I went to my first Whitney concert in Nashville in 1987. She was riding the first wave of her singing career. Her 1st album was heading straight to the top. I still say that this was the best concert I have ever attended in my 59 years. I saw her in concert at least 20 times through her incredible career. I always wanted to repeat that first experience but that never happened. However, I was never disappointed in her even if she struggled to sing on key, hit the high notes and finish her concert. I realized she had become involved in drugs and was a tortured soul but I never lost my love for Whitney. To this day I will never say anything negative about my idol. I miss her so bad. The fact that her team and family let her tour in this condition is beyond me EDIT: I see lots of people getting upset by the use of the word “let”, as if I was implying that she wasn’t an adult that was able to make her own decisions. She was an addict, and addiction is a horrible disease that can only be cured if the person who’s victim of it, is willing to get help. Having said that, to enable and actively assist in someone in that state (whose voice did even function properly to even talk) to set up a World Tour is the hight of irresponsibility imo. Many people saw the train wreck that was coming, yet did nothing to stop it (and by that I mean stoping the tour, not stoping her from taking drugs). I’m sure no one forced her to do the tour, if anything she probably insisted on it, yet helping her carry on with a situation that was detrimental for her brand and most importantly her health, just doesn’t sit right with me.

I'll never forget what Aretha Franklin said about this tour. She said Whitney went out there, night after night with the heart of a champion. She could have lip-synced but she lifted her head up and tried her best, whilst the media and "fans" were tearing her to shreds. I always respected Aretha for saying that publically and it's true. It took a lot of courage to stand up night after night, when people and media are criticising you - over and over. Not to mention what she personally was dealing with emotionally, knowing her voice was no longer what it once was. Very sad. Thats enough to pressure to make someone like Whitney with a history of drug abuse to relapse. She got clean whilst making sparkle in 2011. The producer confirmed it as she was being drug tested weekly (a condition of her contract so the studio would insure her).

I think it's deeper than leaving the show, they might have an emotional relationship. I listen to Whitney's Bodyguard CD and yell at her about how stupid she is to throw her voice to drugs and a man. What a waste of talent and gift from God. That's to her brother Michael who first introduced her to drugs. Live with that for the rest of his life. She could have walked away, but she had a lot of financial responsibility and she couldn't handle it. Her family basically killed her by using her fame to keep them living a fancy lifestyle. @@irenegonzalez8779 it is easy to say when you aren't in other's shoes. Maybe you have watched the documentary about her, she started with drugs in very early age, as child, at home, introduced by relatives. She became a star for the WHOLE world and it was a huge pressure on her when she was very young. It is not by coincidence that 99% of the big stars in Hollywood and music branch use drugs. Besides the pressure of being a mega star, being target of media and journalists, target of people that wanted use her, she was an employer of more than 100 people that was working for her...working for her voice! If she was sick, people didn't give a shit, she was there to sing because the shows were sold out! When you are so successful having hundreds that depend on something that is very very vulnerable as your voice, people just want that you go on and go on and on, it becomes physically impossible. And you have to perform, no matter what! She generated millions to everybody that was around her, including her family. People stoped to care if she could or not sing, they just demanded that she did and that's it. It is not easy to just walk away, people OWN the artist. There are plenty of contracts that make the artist perform BY FORCE. manager, label, producers, name it. If you have heard about a incredible talented swedish artist called Avicii. He wanted to stop, he coudn't. Lots of contracts on him and if he didn't honour them he would pay millions as fine. He was depressed and said lots of times that he would not like to do any show, anymore, he started to have panic attacks before the shows. They didn't listen and he took his own life. Drugs to this people are a way to keep going, to feel stronger, to not sleep, to not feel and so on. Do you think that they have a choice? yes, they have. The choice is to leave the show business, be ruined and say bye bye to what they built with their hard work. Or continue doing 200 shows per year and try to endure it as much they can by all means.

The music director could have arranged that song with background singers singing over her and the audience would barely know the difference. I watched Diana Ross do it singing the "The Boss" live. A choir and Gospel singers could and should have been brought in to assist Whitney's ravaged voice. Whitney's bottom range was still solid. However she had no upper register left and with smoking, alcohol and cocaine addictions, it is a wonder she had any vocal abilities left. Judging from her final performance with Kelly Price two days prior to her death, Whitney had no vocals left. However Whitney left us with a rich catalog of music that will live way beyond the press infatuation with her drug addiction.
@MariaAntoinetteF2 жыл бұрын
She was paying back her advance with these concerts. She couldn’t hire a choir and fly them around Europe with her. That cost money and would have defeated the point of having this tour. And then finishing out that last part of the song - the song that every person in the world has heard, added to that adrenaline. And them combined with the hit she just took….it wasn’t that couldn’t wait. She wanted it all together would be my guess.

This woman voice and appearance was beautiful in the 80's when she was at her pinnacle in her career, so sad what happened to her. So beautiful and have admit I had a little crush on her in the 80's. She was like a shooting star traveling through the sky for all to see, then burned out when falling to the earth. She is missed

That is a beautiful, rather poetic way to put it. It's always nice to have good feelings, and thoughts for those we admire. Whether dead, or alive. Keep sending that good energy into the world. 😊

The movie was great seen it tonight. I’m a metal guy and wasn’t buying her music back then. But I always respected her talent, and if this is her worst it’s still better than 99.9 percent of most singers. RIP Whitney
