For me it's the way how the quality of the note changes through years: like, '85-86 have some "pushy" quality in sound but through '87-94 it mostly sounds as her comfortable regular note, as if she's simply speaking it. Later on, we can hear note slowly become more difficult for her to perform, but there still were great moments with it. Thank you for this compilation!

OMGGG!!! Whitney literally made the C#5s HERSSS!!!! No matter what year, conditon her voice was in. C#5s were always her best. The way she sung those C#5s with ease and power will never be done again. And whats funnier is her voice got more powerful over the years. Like compare 1985 to 1991 whoo!!! In 1999 might've not been her best but you can hear the way her voice was too powerful for the mic. 3:15 that ease! 2007 that ease on the C#5 is soo clear! 2010 is my fav!!! That power. With gospel, she could never do wrong. Greta video, thank youuu!!!

I’ve seen that in the last four years of her performing career whenever she was singing gospel her voice acquired a sudden strength and conviction that even irreversible vocal damage couldn’t stop from shining. 2008 was solid and 2010 is sung with such fervor even prime singers couldnt sound half as chill inducing to me. Obviously her clearest and strongest of the note was 1988-1993 all those GLOA climaxes are simply breathtaking. If anything the 2002-2006 years were the worst by far because she was using her voice so little during that time that even the most basic belts were crackly- 2003 made me cry sometimes cause you can see she’s trying so hard 😢Thanks for this great video as always❤

We long for Whitney Houston's return, as her extraordinary presence and incomparable voice are deeply missed. Her ability to infuse every performance with profound emotion and authenticity left an indelible impact on music and our hearts. The world feels incomplete without her unique blend of talent, grace, and heartfelt expression, which continues to resonate long after her passing.

This clip makes me identify 7 phases of Whitney's voice that was presented to us: 1985-87: young, clear, projected and light voice, but at the same time, powerful. 1988-90: voice still young and clear, but a little "softer", with more harmonic richness. 1991-94: here came his first vocal change of greater perception and his signature timbre: deeper and stronger, with well-defined mids and balanced trebles, but at the same time, very powerful. 1995-97: his second main vocal change, with an even darker timbre, but less resonant and with a certain harshness. Medium-low notes become more natural and high notes begin to come with more effort. 1998-2001: voice similar to the previous condition, but with a little more nasality. 2002-2006: here, a truly bad phase for Whitney's voice begins, where her timbre sounds dry, not very resonant, very nasal and hoarse, with little respiratory control and a lot of improvisation to overcome the audible weakness. 2007-2010: Whitney's last vocal change, where her voice sounds better than the previous period, but permanently damaged. There are some good moments, but I define this phase as a presbyphonic voice, nasal and turbulent due to excessive hoarseness. Generally, Whitney is associated with the timbre of The Bodyguard era, but I particularly consider 1988-1990 to be her vocal peak. It was a perfect hybrid between his voice at the beginning of his career and the voice that would emerge soon after.

Spectacular analysis. Great diction on the topic and very in depth on the timbral shifts through the eras. I think 1986-1989 are her absolute best years vocally and in terms of technique. Her voice had a very balanced sound, a solid placement, a balance between chiaro and scuro, and overall just great dexterity and fluidity to basically whatever she sang, whenever. From chest-head, her sound was incredibly balanced, and that even vibrato and full voice could be found from F3 all the way up to her C#6. These years were the years that really solidified her as one of the best (if not the best) vocalists in popular music outside of non-secular/non-classical. Such an incredible vocal development for a pop singer.

@@nunyabiz3668 Oh, thank you! I'm in love with Whitney, her voice and talent and very sensitive to the changes she's gone through on her instrument. In fact, every year her voice changed a little, but I preferred to separate it into periods where this became complete evidence. If I had to choose a year where Whitney's voice reached its peak of "perfection", it would be 1988! She really was at her technical, beauty and vocal health peak. The shows at Wembley Arena are documented proof of this. In the 90s she was still great, but unfortunately her voice had already suffered a certain fatigue that was not recovered from the schedules of the 80s and from then on, in addition to even more intense schedules, drug abuse and other problems would become a constant.
