I remember when this song was released, every graduation ceremony someone sung it. Whether it was kindergarten, middle school, high school or college graduation this song was going to be heard. Whitney possessed so much vocal ability..her vibrato, her melisma, her head voice, her lower register, her chest belts, her upper register, her resonance, her volume control…every thing was perfection. Then she had such elegance and her beauty. But her ace in the hole was her emotive abilities and the way she could interpret a song. Everyone wants to call Whitney a pop singer or a RnB singer but Whitney was first and foremost a gospel singer, hence her amazing emotive abilities. She could sing anything because as she said “my mother told me that if I could sing gospel I could sing any other music!” Whitney is simply the greatest.
