Her voice is far more powerful, sweeter, and her range is just as broad with more control (no need for whistle notes here). In terms of being compared to Whitney, they're pretty equal in my book. Whitney just possessed a darker, more colorful, more mysterious vocal instrument. But in terms of talent, Wendy is right up there with the very best!

Wendy's IWALY version is the absolute best I've heard from any singer aside from Whitney. Whitney remains the best because of her tonal colorfulness, something that cannot be replicated. If you have listened to Come On in Out of the Rain and her first album the problem was the producers. Come on in Out of the Rain is a song you could easily hear Whitney perform if she was in good vocal health. They should have dug into that kind of music at this time in her career. I've heard other people try to imitate Whitney on this song, but Wendy is not doing that. He voice has its own roundness and brilliance that is uniquely hers. I'm actually mad at the person who cancelled her record deal. If she was on David Foster's radar and the beauty of her single she deserved the focus to create the album that would have launched her career. Now approximately 27 years later, she comes out of the shadows and I hope she claims what should have been hers all along. The winner. The contract. The right music and a career that leads to sold out stadiums. I will buy ANYTHING she releases. What a gift.

I remember Wendy from back in the day as a professional singer. A great talent she has; great vocalist. But as you noted, Antoine Swans, she's exactly right. Many have tried imitating Whitney's sound, but anyone with a good ear can tell the difference right off. David Foster made the same prediction about Whitney and it came to pass. However, there are many reasons why many of her "imitators" haven't reached Whitney's success and won't. For starters, Whitney Houston was one of a kind, an original gifted by almighty God. She was indeed the whole package: stage presence, elegance, charisma, beauty, vocal control & range, brilliant & distinct enunciation & musical phrasing, and a very special anointing from the Lord. Hence, she remains The Voice to this day. There are many imitators, but only ONE originator: Whitney Elizabeth Houston. I knew Wendy would go far on the The Voice because she's still very talented. Even if she doesn't win The Voice this year, she's good. Her resume speaks for itself.

Sadly, her greatest asset was also her greatest fault...a voice that is so similar to that other "voice". As a result, she just didn't get the recognition she deserved. The talent is undoubtedly up there, but she needed a signature sound. Something that would have set her apart from the rest. It took me a while to realize that it wasn't Whitney singing "coming in out of the rain". All that aside, I really enjoy listening to her. Wishing her all the best.

Easy.. the industry is/was not willing to invest money in multiple artists at the same time. They'd rather focus all the marketing money on a single revenue stream instead of multiple, it's easier to control and less risk of the money maker being poached by the competition and suddenly disrupting the revenue. Wendy Moten's story is not too dissimilar from that of Phyllis Hyman, Lisa Fischer, Rachelle Ferrell, etc. All equally talented with 'out of this world' voices yet pushed aside by the record labels because they were seen as revenue threats to the already established and heavily invested Whitney and Mariah.
