It's her tone. Something in there that's just holy. Strip away all the skill, technique, acrobatics, and soul, her tone alone could save souls.

I still remember this performance on Dutch television. I was a boy, almost 20 years old, and this impressed me SO MUCH! Liesbeth List was a well-known artist since she sang with Ramses Shaffy (also very popular in our country) but during this song she was completely blown away by Whitney's beautiful sound. What was happening... I was totally stunned. Also credits for Louis van Dijk. Truly one of the best pianists we've ever had. Unfortunately, all three passed away.

This performance captures very well why she is famously known as the " voice!". She demonstrated so convincingly what Narada Michael Walden ( one of the world's top 10 producers of all time) discovered very early in his collaborations with Whitney - the tremendous, multi-octave range, raw power and self- confidence she was divinely blessed with! Her runs, transitions from head to chest voice, melisma, vibrato and control are simply magical. She was epitomized perfection when it came to singing. Performances like this convinces me that she is the most talented and gifted singer of all time, as it was impromptu, but she nevertheless delivered effortlessly and with typical Whitney Houston graciousness!! Her unparalled legacy is that she has provided the blue print for singing, which she has taken to new and almost impossible levels. She is a hard act for other singers to follow, because of this. Her vocals in this performance were simply angelic and divine, in my opinion. Love and respect you Whitney and will always do! Baulbeer Persaud

I absolutely love this video, as it captures this incredible singer in her absolute prime , with her divine talent on show, characterized by tremendous, never before heard raw power, an incredible multi- octave range, immaculate and masterful control and amazing self- confidence which in my opinion, emanated from her known spirituality. This was recorded in the Netherlands back in 1985, where Whitney was introduced by the legendary Dutch singer Liesbeth List and accompanied on piano by the also legendary jazz pianist Louis van Dijk. Whitney had her first hit ever in the Netherlands with All At Once in 1985. So she impacted and inspired a lot of Dutch people, including a little girl called Glenda Batta, who later performed and won the first ever vocal talent show on TV in the world in 1994 with Whitney's One Moment In Time, starting her long singing career as Glennis Grace (recently on America's Got Talent). Whitney was Glennis' idol and her biggest fan. Last weekend she did 2 sold out Whitney Houston tributes and finally is starting on her international career.

What creative genius, the way this Queen of the diva just read the script and seamlessly blended into the song "on the far side of the hill". Her rare ability to instantly interpret the melody of a song and effortlessly wrap the lyrics around it, and her versatility generally, has been highlighted repeatedly by Narada Michael Walden( one of the world' s top ten music producers of call time) in his book on their collaborations. Wow, what soaring and impeccable vocals, with her multiple vocal range on demonstration. It is amazing how she goes from chest to head voice so effortlessly and then on several occasions throughout the song, packs a series of notes into single syllables. I submit, as has been confirmed repeatedly by various elite music professionals, very few if any, possessed these rare qualities, and none mastered them the way she did full stop!! RIP Whitney - at the tender age of 21, you years old, you were already at "the top of the musical tree!". Which ordinary singer does that?! Baulbeer Perssud

What more can one say about this Queen of the Divas - I not only get goose bumps every single time I see Whitney's images in these videos or hear her voice, but am lost for words to accurately describe this mystifying, hair-raising and never to be replicated gold standard of a voice. When one add to her amazing, God given instrument, her stunning beauty, poise, grace, humility, sincerity, emotive ability, special lyrical phrasing, strategic melisma, clarity of diction, carefully placed vibrato, smooth transitions between head and chest voice, strategically placed runs and riffs and trend- setting fashions, among other special qualities, then we are simply talking about not only the greatest singer that ever lived and will ever live, the " total package!". Put simply, not only will she always be an impossible act to follow as a vocalist, but others should not try to emulate her. Indeed, as one British Journalist once posited, her music should not be copied or duplicated, but preserved like a prized work of art !! Whitney has always challenged music writers to find the appropriate words to describe her music, as it is that special! Indeed, they (music writers) more often than not struggle to accurately analyse her music, because it defies description, believe it or not!! Whitney, I will always love and treasure your amazing vocals, and celebrate you as one of the most beautiful, sincere, humble and above all, loving human beings to ever inhabit planet earth to the inhabitants of which, you gave your all and your more to receive your less, in terms of appreciation from some ungrateful human beings. But, you rest in eternal peace my loving sister, as your fans love you eternally, and will always love, cherish and remember you!!!

Man this is the very beginning she sounded so young but refined and soulful all at the same time and the tone is nostalgic for 80s Whitney, light and free.

Everyone says that she was destroyed by the industry. So sad... A precious gift that not even the industry could recognize and protect. Whitney said it was all about money and nothing else. She had no protection. Drugs were her only way out. She lost control and could not recover. So sad!
