That’s the point of Kon Mari!! you need to feel overwhelmed to help you understand how little you really need, also a motivation to keep it tidy and decluttered so you don’t need to do it again anytime soon. Looks so great, well done :)

Even though you felt overwhelmed, pulling out everything allowed you to rearrange cabinet contents. Sometimes, seeing what your space is like when it's empty helps you to see what it could be. Great job!

That was a big task for sure!! Just a suggestion for your spices- try to find another way to store/organize them. When you put them in a bin like that and you're in the middle of cooking something, you're going to have to look through that bin to find the spice you need. I learned that the hard way :).

I envy a little bit those who can do it in sections, the only way I know how to organize something is to have a big picture of the empty area.

Thanks for the video! Konmari method is honestly supposed to be overwhelming because the intention is for you to see how many possessions you have and how you don't REALLY need it all. So it's a very direct way of facing materialism and stuff like that. I recently did Konmari for my closet and donated/tossed two garbage bags filled with clothes/accessories. Anyways, I wanted to ask you what vacuum you were using. I have cats and they shed like crazy so I need a good handheld vacuum to get in those nooks and crannies. 😅

It's not "take everything out", it's "take out all of one category of item". You can make smaller categories, like "cups", but you still need to remember to grab the bathroom cups, travel mugs, glasses, kids cups, etc. Then you can see how much overlap there is.
@whitneypea4 жыл бұрын
Well anytime I did it by category in the past, I was told I wasn't doing the Konmari Method right. Can't keep you people happy lol

I think the KonMari method works best when you have similar items scattered all over the place. (mugs in many different cabinets, bottles of spices here and there, bowls all over the place, etc) It's great for seeing how much of something you have and for finding duplicates. It's also great if you want to reconfigure how things are laid out and stored throughout the space. But....if you already have like items grouped, and aren't looking to reconfigure, I can see how pulling everything out at once would be uber overwhelming for sure!
@whitneypea4 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! I learned this lesson the hard way lol! I actually re did my cabinets again recently and didn’t pull everything out at once, never again 🤣

I totally agree about that method. I'm constantly organizing and trying to improve my spaces (because I have a small home) and usually it's done without any real dread. But this method made me want to throw everything away. Lol I'm a person who is constantly getting rid of stuff myself, but I'm not getting rid of things I may just use once a year anymore. I learned the hard way by getting rid of things I later needed. And it's not cost effective. Kudos to you for getting organized! It does feel good when it's all done.
@whitneypea4 жыл бұрын
Yes that always happens! Its like as soon as you get rid of the barely used item, you need it a week later lol it never fails!

I prefer clear bins for storage so you can more easily see what is in them. Colored bins add visual clutter. If you write the name of the spice on the top of the lid, it will make finding the right spice faster.
