Cemeteries are a tale of our past. I can't believe how far back that cemetery goes. It's sad that it's right by the road. It should be getting a complete overhaul without disturbing those who passed. Saddens me seeing the fence in despair. I appreciate you taking me along. Happy Saturday my friend. 🙏❤️🕊️

7:41 The "f" in the name on the headstone is known as a "Long s" and is an old version of the lowercase letter "s" It is very common to see this in the epitaphs on old grave stones in churches in England as well as in documents - it even appears in the US Bill of Rights as "Congrefs" It replaced the first "s" in a double s sequence in a word.

It's a beautiful resting place. It's a shame those headstones couldn't be restored. Laying on the ground they will only get worse. Thank you for sharing this beautiful place and it's history.

If you ever get a chance near a very small town of Medaryville Indiana is a place called Independence Cemetery. It was started by the Methodist Church in the early 1800's. They built a log cabin church and it burnt then around 1860 they built a new one that is still there. They're still burying people there but there is a section that goes back to 1800's with graves. My mom and dad and many family members were buried there. If you Google it you'll find information on it.

A pioneer cemetery in West Virginia? Those pioneers didn't travel very far west. Here in Washington State, we have pioneer cemeteries. Those folks somehow survived thousands of miles on the Oregon Trail, severe weather and mountain ranges while traveling in wagon trains.

My high school alma mater had a small family plot behind it. Now, the cemetery is in front of the newest building incarnation.

The Battle of Point Plesant, some historians say, was the first conflict of the American Revolution. There is a beautiful state park - Tu-Endie-Wei (pronounced To Indy We) nearby. The word Tu-Endi-Wei comes from the Wyandotte language meaning "the place of two waters". Point Pleasant is located where the Kanawha River empties into the Ohio River.

What a nice cemetery. Even though it's seen much better days, the people were a part of history. The doctor find was really interesting. A nice monument for him. May they all rest in peace.

I hate to see that this old cemetery has areas of extreme disrepair. Plenty of the markers are literally fallen apart, and are melting into the ground. I can’t help but to think that somebody would be able to put together an effort to do some straightening and shoring up, and alsorepair some of the damage that is right throughout. Just a thought.

Pioneer Cemetery reminds me of Colonial Cemetery in Savannah. Small cemetery that the city grew up around. Really cool to see it preserved instead of it being moved for a road or something.

Yes, it is surprising this cemetery has survived. So many of these graves need some TLC especially the one with the fence in such disrepair. Hopefully the right person or persons will see this and some restoration can take place.

Where I live we still have a cemetery that does above ground vaults like the one in this video. There’s not too many of them probably because of cost and also personal and family mausoleums probably for the same reason, costs.

I was going to tell you about the S/F thing. Someone beat me to it with much better info. Amazing Cemetary. I always wish they could fix them up. Matter of money 💰 usually. Too bad there's not some type of a fence outside to separate it from the busy road. Wonderful find though. 🎉

Ok I’m confused. You said you didn’t think that Dr was buried there. That is his grave at 4:22. That Dr in the sign is buried at that grave with the really tall obelisk and his wife is right beside of him. I found it on find-a-grave.
