Whittier Cruise Port Stop (in the rain!) - Sapphire Princess - Alaska Cruise 2023

Our Alaska cruise on the Sapphire Princess in May 2023 was for a total of 14 nights. Although we didn't realise it when booking, this was actually two back to back 7 day cruises, from Vancouver to Whittier and then the 2nd week, from Whittier back to Vancouver.
Although most of the itinerary was the same in the second week as to that in the first, we really didn't mind as the locations and scenery was so brilliant, it was good to get a second chance to see things.
This meant that the stop in Whittier was an all day stop, giving some cruisers the chance to either disembark or join the ship for the 2nd week.
If it hadn't been pretty awful weather with constant rain, the stop would no doubt have been a bit more interesting. As it was though, the area immediately near the cruise terminal was actually pretty boring and uninteresting.
The locals just don't seem to be geared up for tourists at all, and we actually found the locals fairly rude and abrupt. Shame really, as it could probably be a nice little stop.
It would appear that a lot of people travel into Anchorage and then get a train across to Whittier. I'm not sure why the cruise ships don't just stop in Anchorage, at least that looks a bit more interesting :)
If the weather had been better, we would have just gone for a nice hike locally into the hills, so fingers crossed if we stop there again :)
