Awesome! Ted Chiang's writing genuinely invites the reader to grow intellectually and emotionally and morally, couched in brilliant sci-fi narratives. He's truly unique and awesome! Ted, after reading Stories of Your Life and Others I'm really hoping you continue to write and publish.

The technique used in "story of your life" (the short story behind the movie) of interspersing visions of a future young daughter and the present moment problem/ science puzzle of decoding alien linguistics was very gestalt. It helped create the alternative perception in the reader, exciting/juxtaposing simultaneously the feeling of love/longing and cold logical analysis. these two parts of brain are NEVER fired together. The technique was sort of trying to get you to "be like the aliens" accept the whole truth at once, not in time sequence. Very nice.

Here Stephen Johnson (Chiang's friend) explains how he works (basically, with his huge file and Scrivener word processor). I don't know if he discovered other ways after the interview: magenta.as/writing-a-book-the-steven-johnson-way-da88b9d44e08
