touch th dog In my experience, juggling Bowser is dangerous because dair and down B can mix up timing effectively. The recovery is still better than most in Melee, so it works. It also teaches proper recovery instead of getting bailed out by Arsene recovery.

@@JCcrackle Exactly. His offense is easy once he manages to get in, but the difficulty lies in playing around his weaknesses. Assuming that the opponent knows the matchup and actually abuses his weaknesses. In a way any big body with laggy attacks is automatically harder to play than a character that can safely mash because of their small size and good frame data.

King D4VID I honestly like Yoshi in smash ultimate. If you play him he’s honestly really fun and exciting to play but beating him is difficult. I think the most dumb thing about Yoshi is he is to unique for smash as every character is built there move sets for smash as yoshi has stuff that work much like his moves from his series. Like Mario’s fireball doesn’t insta kill or do a lot of damage like he does in his games butt Yoshi gets weird stuff I guess.

I feel that man. A decent Yoshi player can bum a guy out quick. Lol this is coming from a Yoshi main. I've seen many-a player completely losing all hope after taking 2 stocks while I am lit for 130-200+%. I gotta say I am slightly offended that Yoshi is on this list, but I can see the point. Yoshi is pretty easy to pick up, but if you wanna slay you really have to have an adept understanding movement, patience, and combos. In the right hands Yoshi is such a beauty that you can't be mad 😁👍

Ganondorf requires you to be good at reads and it's actually very difficult for him to approach some characters. Play against Villager and Link and it will take a ridiculous amount of effort.

Ehhhh.... This video feels less like "Who is the easiest character to play" (or, as mentioned in another comment, "who has the lowest skill floor") and more "Who has good stats that should make them potentially easier to win with if you already know how to play Smash bros." This is anecdotal (but corroborates with a lot of the comments; see "No Kirby?") but almost none of these characters come up in casual play, even if the casual player has been playing for a while. If anything, they fade out faster for characters that are easier for beginners to get into, or have a more pronounced gimmick (i.e. Pikachu, being a more popular pokemon without the technical knowledge needed to play Greninja well)

SkipperWing i agree. the “easiest character” is definitely more of who you’d recommend to someone who has never played before. kirby is definitely the most popular choice, because of his multiple jumps and spammable moves, like fTilt and uSpecial

If you struggle against Bowser then that just means you aren’t playing the game right. His moves are very good, sure, but with good spacing against his shield his side b and up b suddenly become way less of a threat. Every time Bowser whiffs anything he gets punished, unlike basically every other high tier character, and given his large size, in a competitive setting he gets destroyed by combos. Oh and his exploitable recovery means he gets edge guarded hard.

@@Simon-hs7ik He is also a combo buffet, with most characters getting 60-70% on him for free at the start of every stock. His disadvantage state is one of the worst in the game, with his predictable recovery that gets absolutely destroyed offstage if the opponent has a counter. He gets juggled hard and while yes he has down air and bowser bomb to mix up his landing options, both are highly predictable and extremely punishable if whiffed. Bowsers up b is a good out of shield option sure, but at the end of the day it won’t ever kill, and he has no follow ups off of it, so it’s not actually that dangerous to be hit by.

It's pretty bad to get hit by 20% every time you hit bowser's shield, you don't need followups. Predictable? Yes they are but the opponent will get punished if they continue the juggle.

@@Simon-hs7ik Just block one of his up b’s by spacing on his shield, you get a free smash attack. Unless you play like sheik or something most smash attacks should kill Bowser at around 100% by the ledge. Here’s a solution to not getting hit by up b, just don’t use laggy moves on his shield, space your aerials and land a bit in front of him and then punish. Another way to kill Bowser is to either just gimp him or spike him, given his linear recovery. A lot of characters have aggressive landing options, and given that Bowser is more susceptible to being juggled than practically every other character in the game, he needs the landing mix ups to be able to punish overextensions.

For beginners, definitely Kirby. Most people can't recover, or have a hard time getting back to the ground when being juggled. Multiple jumps and a down b like his help them out a ton.

K Rool has a bunch of more or less useful techs, not that this makes him a better character for it. But if you want to play him to the fullest extent you need a mastery of everything you can, from crown wavebouncing for movement mixups to perfect knowledge of bury timings to take stocks asap.

I disagree with your definition of "easy". Which characters are easy for good players, are not necessarily the same for new players. Greninja, Yoshi, Palutena, or anything that relies on combos (like Mario) or advanced techniques (like Chrom) are hard for new players. The easiest characters I would say are those like Bowser and other heavies. Getting hit is expected and not the end of the world, less combo dependence, and less advanced technique dependence. Obviously it's still better if you do those things, but they are still straight forward for new players; ie. easy.

Yeah, as a mario main I can attest to that, but I've been implementing ledge trapping and ledge guarding a lot more recently and whoop de doo, I start winning twice as much. Sometimes you just gotta forget that Mario is a literal human chainsaw and think for 2 seconds.

I can just talk for the characters I have my own experiences with. Palutena and Yoshi are more easy ones. But G&W, yes it is easy to spam with him, but play him actually good is not easy and Greninja, I never heard anyone saying that. He isn't easy

@Yau Tv I can commit about yoshi. To do well in tournament is hard. And usually the people who say he is easy never tried going to a tournament and playing him. Yes on low and lower immediate players can get bodied by him cause of not knowing how he works. And 2 mashing as yoshi won't ever work. Yoshi has to using spacing. Know what hitbox of the move they hit to extend advantage state . Play super caution at low % because moves don't leave them in enough hit stun. Practice egg angles and possibly harder depending if the player uses tap jump . Practice recovery because of the fact trying to dj to ledge with yoshi is difficult. The character doesn't have the easiest time getting kills. Kill usually around 130-150 if he lands them raw unless they get egc jab downb. Most combos aren't true just relieving on reading opponent di. Most of yoshi move r very commitment based. Create ur neutral based on sheild pressure because of yoshi having a bad grab and his egg lay is only 7 frames faster than his grab doesn't really help because of yoshi doesnt got a guaranteed kill option after egg lay cause ur opponent has invincibility for frame once out of egg lay. So egg lay is usually used to throw the opponent off and stop shielding so yoshi can rack up dmg. The 3 easiest moves to punish yoshi is 1. Egg roll (move barely used so I didn't know if I should count it.) 2. Down b but this move is used rarely . It is mostly a kill option or used to break sheild but it shouldn't b used in neutral willy nilly. 3. Fsmash/dsmash because of the end lag of the move . 4. This is the most useful one nair oos. Since most yoshi 9/10 will nair out of sheild as the opponent u should bait the nair out and punish. Since nair works like is gets weaker overtime and isn't a big hitbox.and yoshi falls like a heavy while being floaty making it sometimes difficult to land if ur opponent is good at forcing yoshi to a side/zone in disadvantage .

I think Lucina is probably the easiest since at least with Mario he's a close range character and is pretty aerial combo dependent. Lucina can do all that on the ground too and without getting too close to the opponent. Ness has a few difficult things to learn, such as control over PK Flash, Magnet and most importantly consistently recovering with PK Thunder.

From my experience it's easy to win as a beginner with all characters that have unshildable side-Bs like Ganondorf or Bowser. Spamming those moves can be surprisingly effective.

Maybe I'm weird, but Mario does not feel like the easiest character to play. His fair is relatively laggy, and a lot more different than his bair, which punishes you a lot harder for messing up your turn around compared to someone like palutena, or wolf. However I would also suggest that maybe an 11th character for this list to be Bowser. Very much an Up-B out of shield, he lives long and kills early, and has pretty fast aerials considering his weight. Maybe I'm biased since I main him.

I main mario too, and I'm gonna be honest and say after expanding my playable roster recently, mario requires a lot less effort to do well with. I feel like he's easy to pick up, but takes a fair amount of technical skill once you get to higher competitive play. Also fair is almost never a good option on stage unless it is a read, so just don't use it.

I don't think this is true to every one of these. Like many have said, Greninja is hard, but with that distinction, the stuff they showed with Mario and ladder combos take like ten minutes of labbing and then you will never drop them, and the same can be said about other characters like Chrom's jab bair and that stuff.

I think a lot of characters being simple and this game being easy is what it really is about. It isn't bad necessarily, but you shouldn't get back all the time and think Falcon has a bad recovery. The list of characters with bad recoveries could be counted on two hands. The list of characters who are hard comes down to mostly complex/unique mechanics and mostly untapped potential.

People are talking about a lot of characters here let me help clarify: - Greninja: yes he has a lot of tech, but he still has a low skill floor despite his high skill ceiling. - Bowser: Low skill floor, outside of recovering taking some thinking since you’re so exploitable, probably should be here - Ganon: Same as bowser probably lower skill floor and arguably high skill ceiling though, lol. - Cloud: same as bowser. - Kirby: Definitely should’ve been here, I’d argue Incineroar too, they’re who my noob friends go to - Incineroar: (read the Kirby thing) - K. rool: Super easy low skill ceiling and skill floor - Mario: he’s easy, don’t try to say he’s not lol - Yoshi: he’s the same as Mario. - Samus: LOW skill floor, fairly high skill ceiling, should be here. - Simon/Richter: B Button, Nuff said

As an Ike main, I can agree that his kit is very vanilla and simple, but Ike is NOT a simple character to play. There are lots of factors that you have to be aware of when you play him. There’s more to playing Ike than “haha nair go brr.” Edit: if you wanna say Ike is easy, take a beginner and tell them to perform down tilt back air at ledge as Ike. Then tell me Ike’s easy to play.

As a Yoshi main, yes Yoshi is easy to play I should say mostly for fun.. but to master him to a higher level it's very hard. A highly skilled Yoshi player is no joke just saying facts. Yoshi's frame data are great like Mario's, but more aggressive.

Despite I main Kirby I do think he should've been mentioned, the hardest combo kirby has is his Dair ride if I believe or a F-throw, Fair, F-throw, Dair, Up tilt, footstool to jab lock then whatever you want. Though it isnt true so "combo" is iffy. But the hardest thing about kirby is dealing with bad matchups which is from what I see online is, most of the cast.

Bowser Jr...: Huge, disjointed and lingering/multi-hit aerials. Huge, disjointed and multi-hit Smash Attacks, with Up-Smash being an easy OoS kill and F-Smash being an easy ledge kill and/or 2-frame. Side B allows movement mix-ups without tech (e.g. B-reverse, Wavebouncing, etc). Fair/Bair similarity means you don't need to RAR. Heavyweight. Free horizontal recovery. Frame 3 Jab that kills, and also therefore a simple Jab-lock option. Buffered aerials usually hit low enough to connect without requiring manual shorthopping. Side B provides an extra jump for recoveries. Character is so visually distinctive that beginners never get momentarily confused about which is theirs in the heat of battle (unlike, say, swordies of a similar colour), and character model makes it very obvious which direction he is facing. Works well with Smash Stick. Doesn't need to Grab to win (out of the basic controls, beginners tend to learn to Grab last).
