Who are the "Sons of God" and "Daughters of Men"?

One of the most difficult and confusing passages of the Old Testament is Genesis 6:2-4: "The sons of God saw that the daughters of men were fair and took to wife such of them as they chose..." Let's see what this means and doesn't mean.

Excerpt from The Unseen Realm regarding the Sethite view: This interpretation of Genesis 6:1-4 is the one most commonly taught in Christian churches, evangelical or otherwise. It has been the dominant Christian position since the late fourth century ad. In this approach, the sons of God in Genesis 6:1-4 are merely human beings, men from the line of Seth, Adam and Eve’s son who was born after Cain murdered Abel (Gen 4:25-26; 5:3-4). Presumably, these four verses describe forbidden intermarriage between the godly men of Seth’s lineage (“sons of God”) and the ungodly women of Cain’s line (“daughters of humankind”). In this reading, everyone who lived on earth ultimately came from these two lines, both of them lines descended from Adam and Eve’s children. In this way, the Bible distinguished the godly from the ungodly. Part of the rationale for this view comes from Genesis 4:26, where, depending on the translation, we read that either Seth or humankind “began to call on the name of the Lord” (niv). The line of Seth was to remain pure and separate from evil lineage. The marriages of Genesis 6:1-4 erased this separation and incurred the wrath of God in the flood. Exposing the deficiencies of the Sethite view isn’t difficult. The position is deeply flawed. First, Genesis 4:26 never says the only people who “called on the name of the Lord” were men from Seth’s lineage. That idea is imposed on the text. Second, as we’ll see in the next chapter, the view fails miserably in explaining the Nephilim. Third, the text never calls the women in the episode “daughters of Cain.” Rather, they are “daughters of humankind.” There is no actual link in the text to Cain. This means that the Sethite view of the text is supported by something not present in the text, which is the very antithesis of exegesis. Fourth, there is no command in the text regarding marriages or any prohibition against marrying certain persons. There are no “Jews and Gentiles” at this time. Fifth, nothing in Genesis 6:1-4 or anywhere else in the Bible identifies people who come from Seth’s lineage with the descriptive phrase “sons of God.” That connection is purely an assumption through which the story is filtered by those who hold the Sethite view. A close reading of Genesis 6:1-4 makes it clear that a contrast is being created between two classes of individuals, one human and the other divine. When speaking of how humanity was multiplying on earth (v. 1), the text mentions only daughters (“daughters were born to them”). The point is not literally that every birth in the history of the earth after Cain and Abel resulted in a girl. Rather, the writer is setting up a contrast of two groups. The first group is human and female (the “daughters of humankind”). Verse 2 introduces the other group for the contrast: the sons of God. That group is not human, but divine. There are more deficiencies in this viewpoint than I will take time here to expose, but the point is evident. The Sethite hypothesis collapses under the weight of its own incoherence. Why that it says the sons of God came with Satan

Why do people try to change the word Bene Elohim is Sons of God and he even mentions them in a meeting in heaven so not humans; and Malakey is the word used for Angel's his Messengers. He says they are his sons and gods in Psalms 82 he also mentions them again in Jobs. Angel's and Sons of God arent the same Divine beings as their words describing them say. People just have an issue that God himself said he has Sons who are gods. Next why would 2 groups of humans produce and suddenly make Mighty Renown heroes that somehow some try to change up and csll Demons? Once again according to the word of God Angel's and Sons of God are different type of divine beings this is made clear in Pslams, Genesis and Jobs. Humans didnt go to heavenly meetings these meetings were with his Sons whom he said are gods. Even in Genesis 1 let us make man in our image. Us and Our is plural

This is incorrect. There were others outside the garden. It is where Cain got his wife from, and others from Adam and Eve like Lamech. This is what it is talking about.

A lot of people because of heretical books like the Book of Enoch just assume that the Sons of God are fallen angels and not the line of Seth. Many believers overlook studying the genealogy of Cain (man from the Lord) and Seth (son from the Lord) which give a lot of information and details proving those two lines of people were in fact intermarrying. Cains's firstborn son was named Enoch. The seventh son from Adam through the line of Seth was named Enoch who God took. Lamech (murderer) the seventh from Adam through the line of Cain (murderer) was a wicked man who was abusive to his two wives (bigamist) and killed a man for wounding him and also killed a child for striking him. Noah's father was named Lamech. Why would these two groups of people who God clearly wanted apart, have the same names in their families if they were not intermarrying? Lamech's three sons (line of Cain) created ranch farming, music and musical instruments, and forged iron and bronze. These skills and knowledge had to be passed on to Noah somehow. In Turkey where many believe the Ark has been found archeologist found metal where the ruins are believed to be. According to geologist there should not be iron found in that part of the world. Clearly these two lines passed on knowledge and names from one another while disobeying God. Obviously, this enraged the Lord, so he destroyed them all except for Noah and his family. I have never believed that the Sons of God were angels because according to the bible angels cannot reproduce. Even though they can take on the form of men they are still spirit beings of a different kind. If Satan or fallen angels could ever create life what's stopping them from doing it now? As far as the giants go, do we not have them today? The daughters of Cain bore children to the Sons of God during the time that giants were on the earth. It doesn't say the giants were those who were born. Nimrod was a man of renown who was mighty in the eyes of many. We have football, basketball, baseball players, movie stars, rock singers. Elvis was a giant of his time. Clearly using scripture, the evidence that the Sons of God were men clearly outweighs the circular reasoning that the Sons of God were angels. The Bible never says the angels are sons. The Hebrew word for son is (ben). It can also mean troops, or warriors. Angels are the armies of Heaven. Every word of God is established by two or more witnesses and the Sons of God being fallen angels has no supporting scripture to back it up. 2 Peter and Jude only say the angels sinned against God. The Book of Enoch has deceived even some of the greatest pastors in the world with this heresy. Hopefully they will study the genealogy of Cain and Seth and see the truth. God has always wanted his children to remain pure. Look what happened when the children of God (Israel) chose for themselves pagan wives. Think about Samson and Deliah, David and Bathsheba, and of course Solomon. God never changes. Cain was a devil from the beginning and God destroyed them all. According to 1 John we are the sons of God. Unto which of the angels has He ever called Son? Hebrews 1:5

According to Sethite believers, Scripture says the Sethites should not intermingle with Cainites. Them doing so is what brought on the Nephilim. This is false: Genesis 9:22 And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brothers outside. Genesis 1:26-28 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Another claim for the Sethite theory is that Sethites became sons of God through salvation. This contradicts Scripture on a high level: Salvation was not always available: Ezekiel 36:26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. Joel 2:28-32 “And it shall come to pass afterward That I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your old men shall dream dreams, Your young men shall see visions. And also on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days. “And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth: Blood and fire and pillars of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness, And the moon into blood, Before the coming of the great and awesome day of the Lord. And it shall come to pass That whoever calls on the name of the Lord Shall be saved. For in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be deliverance, As the Lord has said, Among the remnant whom the Lord calls. Acts 2:16-21 But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: ‘And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your young men shall see visions, Your old men shall dream dreams. Galatians 3:16-25 Now to Abraham and his Seed were the promises made. He does not say, “And to seeds,” as of many, but as of one, “And to your Seed,” who is Christ. And this I say, that the law, which was four hundred and thirty years later, cannot annul the covenant that was confirmed before by God in Christ, that it should make the promise of no effect. For if the inheritance is of the law, it is no longer of promise; but God gave it to Abraham by promise. What purpose then does the law serve? It was added because of transgressions, till the Seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was appointed through angels by the hand of a mediator. Now a mediator does not mediate for one only, but God is one. Is the law then against the promises of God? Certainly not! For if there had been a law given which could have given life, truly righteousness would have been by the law. But the Scripture has confined all under sin, that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe. But before faith came, we were kept under guard by the law, kept for the faith which would afterward be revealed. Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. But after faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.” John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. Hebrews 2:14-17 Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. For indeed He does not give aid to angels, but He does give aid to the seed of Abraham. Therefore, in all things He had to be made like His brethren, that He might be a merciful and faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people. And let's not forget Genesis 3:15 And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.” Women do not have seed and Scripture seems to hint that Satan (a fallen angel) DOES have seed.

Well that doesn't account for the giants. I know you said that the word used doesn't necessarily mean giants but the Bible mentioned giants coming about at that time. And attest alludes to the fact that they came from them. And it said they were the mighty men of renowned. So you have a problem with your interpretation because when sinners and Christians today get married. They don't have giants or anything other then normal kids not renowned or anything. What most people overlook is it could be people that were born to Adam and Eve before the fall. They were told to have kids before they fell. If this was what happened that would explain the giants and the men of renowned. There is only two problems with this because the Bible say though one man sin death entered into the world. That really isn't a problem because the same passage the talks about sons of God and daughters of men said attest implied that they all did this(son of God). Which would have caused them all to fall though Adam's sin. The only other problem I can see with this is the Bible say that Cain and Able were there first sons. That really isn't a problem either because the Bible could be referring them as first born after the fall and we read it as there first ever.
