Watching this really reminds me of the goodwood revival races. Cars with not a lot of power being driven at the limit with mainly only mechanical grip. Way more entertaining than F1!

I'm coming to conclusion the sole purpose Rover/MG failed, was that they weren't RWD... These cars handled so nicely they could be Jesuses on wheels if only they had rear wheel drive and limited slip diffs.

@@nonoaidnono It might not handle as well though... Many things would come into effect, altering how suspension works. And most likely you would need to build from scratch and tune an entirely new rear suspension, just make RWD system

I know I'm a ZS 180 owner, and I am biased, but holy hell. That thing looks so freaking planted. Swear there is a bit of rear wheel steering going on at times after watching the rear end moving about on the exit of corners. I've had to replace her as a daily, but rewatching these videos has all but convinced me to keep her on as a "toy" rather than selling her. Thank you guys so much for these vids and this channel. It's honestly so nice to see mates all having fun in the name of being a petrolhead, but it's really fascinating to compare the behaviour of different cars, tracks, chassis and drivers. Love it. ♥️

I had an MG ZS180 in trophy blue. One of the best cars I have ever owned. Wish I’d never sold it. It was predictable handling seen here that I loved. Did a few track days at castle Combe.

It has rollcage increasing stiffness, doesn't have passenger balast like Clio on this video, and mg isn't fully stripped, part of the reason.

@@RS7John Honda?! 😂 other than being loosely based on a 90s Civic at that point they're not very Honda set up wise. Vis motors can be bypassed cheaply and doing your own cam belt on the kv6 takes time but is a piece of piss.

To be fair the fabled 'hgf' issues were never an issue on anything kv6 after the mk2 Rover 800. Being even more honest outside of badly looked after K16s from the late 1.1 to the 1.8 models they usually held together pretty well.

Idk about him but mine doesnt have any in the oil pan, 270 000km and going, only one scratched rod bearing, but that was my fault(went for a spirited drive and haven't checked the oil...) Haven't noticed power drops in bigger corners, but it drinks oil, cca 1L of 10w50 total racing in 2000-2500km

The KV6 doesn't have any headgasket issue. Nor do the MK2 K18s. The whole headgasket thing with Rover is a real joke, particularly if you've owned and EJ Subaru which really does blow the headgasket all the fucking time!

@@oscarfox4570 I'm not saying it can't happen, just that its uncommon. I'm going to guess it was the engines main failure problem the plastic BMW thermostat. They have a habit of crumbling around 100k, most start to slowly leak but a bad failure dumping all the coolant could blow the head if you were unfortunate. On the while the KV6 was a strong engine (bar the early version in the 800 and Freelander which was shit) on the whole it was a more developed engine than the 4 cylinder.

@@TeamZSsx Yup, constantly changing as I'm a serial faffer with my own cars. At Thruxton I think I had -3.2 front and -2.5 rear, 100n front springs, 80n rear, roll centre correction ball joint kit in the front but stock rear. I've since added a Honed developments rear roll centre kit and upped the spring rates, camber is more or less the same but I might be able to reduce it now with the stiffer rates. I need a bit of spare time to re-faff with the setup.

The mg has less power and more weight, the 120 version is better buy and turbo it from a rover 75 or mg6 with a £100 2871r chinnese turbo and a remap they push out 270bhp, see all these lads off.

The cars aren't a million miles off on power to weight ratio, and we do tend to drive like you do in 2 player gran turismo, swapping places here and there! I will be the first to admit the MG was a fair bit quicker at Thruxton so I did have the cheating advantage, but then you do a skid, and all time is lost!

These old Honda Rovers looks so good in corners.....no understeery tire sqeel, can go with doors forwards.... I know why i drove 5 of these in my life career.....then i switch to Honda, BMW wasnt reliable enough, and rest of the world handle corners like tanks, yo i talk about cars which can my wallet fully funded. Nice video, jump in time for me, i won some races in old Rovers about 2005..... 🤟😉
