CORRECTION: We'd just like to take the time to apologise for an error we have spotted in the video. At 3:00, we state in the narration that Mordaunt has a satisfaction rating of 42%. On screen, however, she is shown to have a satisfaction rating of 45%. An error was made in the animation of the video, and the poll on screen at the time is from November 2023 - not the one we reference in the narration from April this year. Again, we'd just like to apologise for this error, and we'll try to minimise such errors moving forwards.

The assumption here that Mordaunt will keep her seat is stunning. Portsmouth North is a bellwether seat and usually goes with the government. Assuming Mordaunt stands there, and doesn’t do a chicken run to a safer seat, it’s almost akin to saying Portillo would be a great candidate for the Tory leadership in 97, before he went and lost his seat.

They're TL;DR by name TL;DR by nature 😀😀 But seriously short videos are terse and for clicks not serious analysis. Given that Tory MPs have opened the succession battle before the election is called it is becoming clearer and clearer they'll lose. No sensible ideas, just delusions and scandal. Their own bad behaviour makes for self fulfilling prophecy, pretending otherwise is pure right wing hopium, just like the oxymoronic Brexit benefits they lied about for years and are suffering the consequences having kicked out almost all conscientious MPs, leaving them detached from reality.

From a purely objective political entertainment point of view it is going to be interesting to see how many MPs the Conservatives have left after the election and their place on the political spectrum. If they end up with sub 100 MPs as one poll has suggested, there could be a situation where there are only centrist, or only right leaning MPs left. It could change the whole feel of the party. And will the remaining MPs align with the views of their membership, donors, their councillors and other party elements. What's left of the party could fall apart.

Your average old white male conservative fart probably still feels that they have to control what they say so they don't get labelled as racist, sexist, etc. but minorities in top party positions can much more easily push an extreme party line while more easily dodging such criticisms. I honestly think this is the direction a lot of Conservative parties in the West are going, using minority members as their mouthpiece to deflect more obvious criticism against the party. It's perfect in a way, you can enact blatantly discriminatory policies and then if people criticize the party for it, the party can just gaslight the opposition by saying they're actually the ones doing the discrimination.

It's quite obvious if there's a change in leadership, given polling, they're there to save the furniture at the next election. I'm guessing that many Tory MPs may feel that Reform is more of an existential threat to the party, so may be inclined to support a more right-leaning leader to mitigate the losses. I wish this was a little more analytical. Didn't mention that Penny Mordaunt is in a former Labour seat and probably won't be in Parliament after the election. If so the more centrist Tories will back another candidate, no mentioned. Additionally the reminding Tories are likely to be in rural, moderate, safe seats meaning the more right wing, Brexit, red wall conservatives will be gone. Just feel like this could have gone a little deeper.

I get why some MPs might want to try. "With someone else, I might be able to keep my seat.". But, who would want to replace him? Even if someone had a plan that they thought would turn things around, do they think they'd be able to get it passed and implemented to make a difference by the end of the year? Most likely not. Which leads us to ask: Does anyone really want to carry the mantle of being in charge when the Conservative party lost their biggest election ever?

It's hardly controversial that the British Empire was a force for good. The BE was not the first empire in basically any of the regions it occupied, and most had known atrocities and exploitation by previous regimes...however, only the BE left a legacy of anti-slavery, an evil that had plagued mankind since pre-history. In its short time the BE ended the slave trade, spread the industrial revolution that gave us prosperity beyond what anyone thought possible, spread the scientific principle that elevated humanity to the tech level it enjoys now, spread medical advances that have saved billions of lives, spread modern agricultural tech that has resulted in more people dying of obesity than famine (something that was unheard of in all history before the 20th century), prevented Napoleon from conquoring Europe and defeated the Nazis. All in all, they had a positive legacy. Lets not forget that if the UK had taken the land it likely would have been taken by another, as empire was the order of the day. Its not as if it would have remained independent, either a local/regional empire would have taken the land, or another European one would have...and look at their legacy. Most had to be forced by the UK to abandon slavery.
