I think you'll find that's actually quite a popular idea on the Right. And I don't agree with it, but I can see their point. It's become so vague that it hamstrings our own legal system. So we end up with utter absurdities (like being obliged to give asylum to convicted sex offenders because they spuriously claim to have converted to Christianity).
@tempejkl
@tempejkl 20 күн бұрын
I mean, that’s what you would’ve thought about the Tories. They promised to do that in order to deport asylum seekers to Rwanda (Hitler had the same plans to deport Jews to the West, then blamed the Holocaust on them not taking any in (despite the USSR and Poland having very large Jewish populations, larger than Germany). Same thing with UK trying to send them to France, who takes in far more migrants than they do, and with them literally using them as an irregular warfare method against Ireland.

The plan to stop helping Ukraine is not a plan for peace. It is a plan for a brutal destruction of Ukraine (much more brutal than the curren stalemate) and for encouragin Russia to be more agressive. It is so naive to think: "the moment we stop sending arms to Ukraine, Russians will stop fighting and will go home." I can't really understand how someone can fall for this.

I am aware that Brexit is seen as the start of issues for many (although if you ask me, austerity measures ruined it earlier). Is this merely and purely due to incompetence, short-sighted self-enrichment or a general lack of what is going on?

As a EU citizen, I find the idea of not having a Breturn referendum until 2040 refreshingly realistic. Before it can even remotely hope to be welcomed back in the EU, UK needs to clean up the huge governance mess that led to the current state of affairs. This will take decades. Of course, some of Cummings’s other proposals (such as withdrawing from the Council of Europe) would bar UK from ever applying.

I spend almost all of my work time around huge numbers of people who would crawl over broken glass to vote for a REAL "economically left, socially conservative" party. Some haven't voted for years or decades (except when they came out for "Leave"). Cummins doesn't understand these people AT ALL. But such a party, if it ever replaced LAB or CON... constituencies would need empty swimming pools to hold all the ballot papers on election night.

I guess the way it would kill the Tories is to take even more vote share on the right, and split it between Tories, Reform and TSP, the same way the centre/left is split between Lib Dems, Labour and Greens (plus SNP in Scotland). In that respect I can see it “killing the Tories” by making it much harder for them to dominate the right wing vote… especially with this current Labour who are also swinging right, just less right than the Tories.
