To dovetail on this, this song is about things not being as they appear and so is the show "the boys". Hence statements like "you want a real smile? Or the one i used to practice not to feel like a failure? " and "it wasn't somebody else, that somebody else was me. You want a real smile..... i haven't smiled in years".... The real meaning behind these lyrics is up for debate of course, but at the time this album was written Corey was going through or had recently gone through a pretty nasty divorce. I feel like most of this album touches on that particular set of emotions, albeit in metaphor.

Psychosocial has old school vibes. I say Unsainted is good for people who have already heard a lot of their music. The fact it sounds the way it does, to me. Is only impressive and worth listening to in regard to their progression as artists and humans. Must keep to their older stuff (at least at first) first in respect to Paul(RIP) and Joey (RIP to his back 😭) Obviously the new dudes are metal af too so at the end of the day it’s still Slipknot no matter what! I always felt awesome at a concert because the music brought me to that state of uphoria. When 10,000 or 100,000 people are feeling the same way. We all feed off each other and it's like pure love at a concert because we're all looking around at each other and feeling the same way. It's definitely a release of everything built up inside. This emotions feels so good when you can obtain it and just let it all go.

I'm glad you guys did this song. This album was recorded after Corey (the singer) went through a divorce. This is one of my all time fav Slipknot songs, and I can't even listen to it very much anymore. I was in a toxic relationship for about 4 yrs, because I was stupid. This song epitomizes that relationship. Every single time I hear the last verse, I get the chills, my adrenaline starts to pump, and my eyes begin to water. It brings up 4yrs of pain and bullshit, all at once for me. I learned a lot from that relationship, and will never give my all to help someone, that doesn't want to help themselves. Slipknot played this song the last time I saw them, and I legit almost fell out because I was screaming this song so goddamn hard lol

I think you two are my favorite reactors. Brad with his very analytical responses and deep dive into the meaning of the lyrics and Lex with her head-bangin’ reactions, really feeling the music but also surprisingly picking up the meaning of the lyrics with very intelligent analysis of her own. Of all the reactors I’ve seen, you are by far the most accurate and spot-on with your lyric breakdowns. And watching the pure joy on Lex’s face when hearing these songs/seeing these videos for the first time is priceless. I’m 63 and grew up before metal was even in existence, but the first time I heard Black Sabbath in the early 70’s I’ve loved metal music. Corey Taylor, the lead singer of Slipknot, is incredibly talented as I’m sure you’re finding out. For something a little different from him (and fun with a lot of cameos in the video) check out CMFT Must Be Stopped. It also features a couple of rappers, TechN9ne and Kid Bookie, so, although it isn’t metal, I think you’ll enjoy it quite a bit.

“It was just this dirge - this lilting dirge, almost like walking down a hill towards you ominously before the hoard comes over and fucking charges with that primal scream, you know?” Corey continues. “That’s really where the inspiration for that came from: a hint of that dark English countryside, that Wicker Man, that vibe of, ‘This is really fucking uncomfortable! What’s happening?’ And then all of a sudden: the punch of the scream, the drums, the guitar, everything just shattering and going to complete shit. It was awesome.”

Lex is a true metal head, her soul truly feels it and is the happiest when the music takes control. It is now her duty to share and teach Brad the ways of the force. Brad will be an unstoppable human once he lets the energy flow, his strong analytical foundation allows him to hold a strong relationship with reality. But music and its energy are not from this world. It comes from the soul. In time the energy of music will win, enjoy the journey Brad, take your time, go at your pace. Just know your wings will let you fly. Rock on guys!

The way i perceive the song is: Solway Firth is a famous area between Scotland and England where many ships in history got stranded, and later became the place the UK would test Uranium (nukes, bombs etc). The lyrics to me seem like a metaphor for a bad relationship where he has found himself stranded, held in his feelings, and this is him "exploding" in anger and frustration. The lyrics also portray a war field after a battle where soldiers who could care less (desensitized) are picking up the possessions of the people they had just killed (first verse). Or in other words he's been taken advantage of, his trust has been stripped bare, and he's had enough. He's saying that he's stuck in his own war, he marched to the beat of the other persons drum, he kept going back, and thus got stabbed in the back over and over. "While i was learning to live, you taught me how to die".... the military makes you a man, but in the end you risk your life. His relationship made him grow up, but came at a cost of his sanity.

Size really doesn't matter in the pit. I was a 140 pound skinny teen when I started moshing, and over the years (decades) I've seen it all in the pit - guys in wheelchairs, old grandpa, midget, young girl in a pink pageant dress, young boy in a little league uniform, also some hulkingly big dudes, but normally nobody gets hurt because we're all just there to have a blast and we don't want to hurt anyone. And rule #1 in the pit is if someone falls you give them space to get back up.

I'm 6'5, 275 lbs. My very first mosh pit was Slayer. When Reign in Blood kicked off, I went around a girl that couldn't have been more than 5'2, 100 lbs soaking wet, to the guy next to her. 20 seconds later, a bright flash, and I'm on my back with that little spider monkey gripping me by the collar of my shirt threatening to slit my throat if I passed her by again. Everyone can mosh. I've been in the pit with kids and women and old people and broke people. Now you have to consider the venue and which part of which pit and how hard you're pushing out at the others to get back. And there's occasionally someone dangerous or out of hand. But it's not just a fist fight brawl. And if someone goes down a bunch of people go to get them up. Whether you're there to release some anger or some pain , or to jump in your groove , or dance with your tribe, or whatever. There's a lot of love in the pit. 🤘😈

There's a big misconception about the "moshpit" at a metal concert. To outsiders it looks chaotic and violent, whereas a real pit, a pit for a real metal band would have to be one of the safest places to be. Ask any female who has been in the pit at a Slayer concert, or a Slipknot concert. You know you're in a place with people like you, you look after each other; if someone goes down, you pick them up. No one is there to pummel or get pummelled. If they are, they're the first to go down. I think Brad is basically a calm guy, he wasn't an angry teenager. Lex on the other hand...this might be the outlet she needs. I know it helped me as a teen, a lot of anger, a lot of confusion, channelled through metal, the more aggressive the better, it acted as a conduit to allow things to happen. It made me calmer, let me focus. Maybe that's why Lex is feeling a connection? I dunno...I do know you have to lose the headphones, crank the volume, stand up and bang your fucken head!
