Just finished listening to all of it, my perception of the major issues of Pakistan has been significantly altered. It was so refreshing hearing about an actual plan on tackling the balance of payment deficit from a former finance minister, not to mention his emphasis on bettering education and health in Pakistan. Despite all the backlash he faced from others and within the party, he stood by what he deemed correct, and that did ultimately prevent Pakistan from defaulting. 👏👏 I've also always been on edge as to whether I should declare Pakistan a hopeless state or attempt to reform the system by working within it with whatever capacity I can; Miftah sahab's entire talk made me consider the latter. Absolutely enlightening 1 hr 40 mins, where I was hooked on every word of this discussion. Shehzad thank you for moderating it so well, especially giving Miftah sahab space to derail the convo for a bit so that he could say what he wanted. Excellent content as always, keep going dude, can't wait to see this sort of gem reach more and more people ♥♥

Miftah says that when he spoke about importing tomatoes and onions from India, India did not give a favourable response. What favourable response was he expecting? His own Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif had already said that there would be no trade with India until article 370 was reinstated. Did you think that India should say that now that you are willing to import tomatoes in onions he will reinstate article 370. Indian never said it is unwilling to export to Pakistan but when Pakistani politicians keep saying no you cannot import from India why should India jump into this debate as though it somehow benefits India. The notion that Pakistani politicians have that somehow if they agree to trade with India they are doing India a favour and India should respond to the favour by giving some concessions on Kashmir is bizarre. You should trade if it benefits your own citizens - you are not doing India a favour by importing vegetables which reduce your own inflation. Separately he says he does not follow BJP much. Fine that is his choice. But without knowing BJP policies how can he blindly dub its government fascist? You run a great VLOG but you also make sweeping statements about Modi being a fascist. If you have a basis for your opinion, you have never shared it. Under PM Modi, there has been universaluzation of households having bank accounts, toilets, electrucity, cooking gas, health insurance, piped water. All schemes are means tested and no discrimination against anyone based on religion, language or caste. Under his government there has been huge empowerment of women and reduction in female foeticide. Miftah says PM Modi's politics is based on Muslim hatred so difficult to imrove relations with such a government. Can he explain why Nawaz waa invited to his swearing in ceremony in 2014 and he visited Lahore in 2015 to attend Maryam's daughter's wedding Why has his government resolved boundary disputes with Bangladesh? If he is as anti-Muslim as Mftah says, why did he give wheat, medicines and vaccines to Afghanistan? Why doea his government have excellent relations with Bangladesh and Maldives and Iran and Afghanistan and.GCC nations and central asian nations and Indonesia - all mualim majority nations? BJP wins some state elections and loses others. Is that fascism? There were 6 IITs until 2014. Now there are 23. Same thing with IIMs and AIIMs. Nor has he invested simply in tertiary education which benefits few. He has invested big time in skills develipment. Modi haa invested big time in public education and healrh. Also in financial inclusion, last mile delivery of service, e-governance (to reduce corruption for access to government services), in improving ease of doung business and in dramatically improving the startup ecosystem. Thousands of Indian kids from lower middle class background have become dollar millionaires through startups. Major reforms in taxation (not just in tax rates but also simplifying administratuon) has meant much greater formalization and higher tax collwction without punitive rates. Huge investments in renewable energy and reforms in policies surrounding foreign direct investments. There were 33 million retail accounts investing in Indian stock exchange in 2014 when Modi came to power which has tripled to over 100 million by improving regulations and reducing insider trading and manipulation. By contrast barely 0.25 million retail accounts exist in Pakiatani stock exchange. There have also been major real estate reforms in India making housing more affordable and reducing the speculative bubble. People investing in stock market instead of real estate makes the economy competitive. It also broadens beneficiaries of corporate profits. Please explain why not learning from India is a matter of pride for Miftah and something that you endorse?

I was and am still totally in support of Miftah's fiscal and monetary policy. Pakistan is at the point where the sour pill must be swallowed in order to see a better economic tomorrow. Unfortunately the associated political suicide is not palatable to ANY Pakistani politician. I don't think Ishaq Dar will do anything other than implement a politically convenient yet economically debilitating policy. Good podcast nonetheless! I'm glad he was straightforward and shrewd in his responses at the same time.

Good to listen to Miftah Ismael's side of the story. Thank you for inviting him. I wasn't able to follow technical parts of the conversation, but got a good idea nevertheless. I was hoping you would talk about the shrinking middle class in this country. Not too long ago, people in white collar 9 to 5 jobs had enough savings to buy a small house, but now 90% of people doing 9 to 5 jobs cannot have such savings with that sort of purchasing power. So many engineering graduates have no jobs, and those who do, are barely able to cover their expenses.

It is extremely unfortunate that even such a highly educated pakistani uses words like fascism to refer to Modi Government in India. It is beyond common sense, rationality and logic that any pakistani has the audacity to call anyone outside Pakistan fascist. Pakistanis should look inside first. Please pay attention to how various sects( Hindus, Sikhs, Ahmediyas etc.)of the pakistani society are dealt with. Having said that, I think politicians in Pakistan feel obligated to say derogatory things about India. Very sad.

@@71espn sorry do not agree. Modi's approach is nothing more than to rectify the injustice of the past. So get your head freed of any propaganda of the leftists. The excesses of the past 1000 years in favour of certain ideology needs to be corrected. Assuming he succeeds, it would in every Indian's interest. When one side continues to praise Aurangzeb, for example, they are not willing to reconcile and live amicably. Please think harder and analyze better. Good Luck. Remember India is and continue to be a secular society till Hindus are in control. Look elsewhere where muslims are in control. Even where they are not (Sweden, UK, France) Got it?

Was waiting for this for a while. Excellent interview and very nicely hosted, Shehzad. I will say that the 1.5 hrs of conversation gives both speakers a nice, calm, relaxed space to speak their piece at length and dissect issues without going for quick sound bytes and talking over each other (which I despise coz its so rude). You also speak to your guests thoughtfully, and you care about their answers which makes it so good to listen to. Keep up the great work!

If anti Muslim policy is the reason then why only Pakistan bear all burden, why not Bangladesh, Maldives, Iran, Saudi Arabia, UAE. We have excellent relations with them and how he justified China relationship (uyighur atrocities next level ). By listening to podcast, I came to the conclusion that biggest problem of pakistan is mediocrity wrapped in elitism and disconnect from root. But love the podcast ❤️👍😎 through discussion may be one day we resolve our differences, and visit one another country.

Agree, bjp government might not be ideal but Pakistan needs to understand it’s own actions that have resulted in anti Muslim feelings within India. By this, I mean the three wars that pakistan has started and also the hundreds of small and large terror attacks that have taken place.. the final straw being 26/11. It is Pakistans responsibility to come to the table and make the first move. That’s the least pakistan can do, although my opinion is that Pakistan should apologise to India. And then we can all move on.
@AAmed1980

@@haroon420 1971 war wasnt started by Pakistan, India sensed an opportunity and intervened. AntiMuslim feelings in India predate Pakistan. Its because of those Anti-Muslim sentiments that there is a Pakistan today. RSS and Hindutva nationalism weren't created by Pakistan. It is because of those Anti-Muslims sentiment that there is a Kashmir issue. Pakistan went to war because of Indian actions in Kashmir. India too, where it suits its interest, has chosen armed intervention. For example, India basically overthrew the Nizam of Hyderabad, who unlike the Hindu ruler of Kashmir, wasnt given the privilege of choosing the fate of his state... If apologies are in order, then India too owes Pakistan, as well as the Kashmiri people an apology.
