I never liked how the sequel comics broke up Zuko and Mai. It personally didn’t feel right considering what they went through in the show and especially knowing that Zuko has a daughter in Korra’s time. It only only leaves an annoying question on who the mother is. I’m sure it’s Mai, but that only leaves another annoying question on how her and Zuko got back together if it’s true.

Gene Yang was the writer of the 2014 comic where they broke up. At the 2017 Emerald City Comic Con, he indicated that as far as he intended, Zuko and Mai got back together about 3 years after they broke up. This is the last confirmed statement I can find from any writer for Avatar about the love lives of Mai or Zuko. As the video mentions, the last time Mai was seen, she still clearly had a thing for Zuko. Similarly, Zuko hasn't expressed interest in anyone else, even when asked.

I feel like Zuko and Mai makes the most sense considering the history they have. Izumi’s name means “fountain” and Mai and Zuko’s first romantic moment (that we know of) involves a fountain. I feel like Jin is a less likely candidate, but could also make sense for Izumi’s mother. Jin and Zuko’s first date ended with a fountain lit up by lanterns. It’s less likely, but still possible in my opinion

You guys seemed to have left out a pretty important part at the end of "Smoke & Shadow" were Kei Lo seems to break up with Mai. Last we see of them together is them inaudibly arguing in the flower shop, which ends with her in tears and him angrily leaving, unsure if he'll ever return. Perhaps Kei Lo learned that Mai still has feelings for Zuko and he didn't take it very well? So much for not letting your heart get broken again, eh Mai? Perhaps it's finally time you patched things up with Zuko...

I always had this headcanon that Zuko went back to Song and reimbursed her for what he stole. They grew a relationship and got married having a daughter who would become Fire Lord. Their relationship felt more symbolically correct. Realistically the Fire Nation would've been happy with Zuko and Mai to get together. They were both from powerful Fire Nation families. Song was an Earth Kingdom peasant that shared similar scars(both emotional and physical) with Zuko and had way more chemistry

No idea why they were even a couple. They had a little crush on eachother when they were little, never really did much with one another as Zuko was always with his mother until she left. I'm pretty sure Zuko didn't hang out with the 3 of them all too much either then a few years after that Zuko gets banished at 13 comes back after 3 years and they have this weird relationship like they've been dating all that time. Not to mention Mai seems a bit manipulative to me as she knows a lot of Zuko's insecurities and tries to play off them.
