I am a Buddhist and i do not pray, i live, accepting all things as they are, always thankful for the blessing of life, protecting it, and healing it, whenever i see those in need, that is how you truly thank the void, by being a light for those enshrouded by darkness, leading them well out of misery, being honest and kind, knowing we all are connected.

Have been studying Buddhism quite a bit in the last year, and every time my understanding grows, I'm absolutely appalled at what many American Sociology textbooks teach children about Buddhism when they are young (middle to high school). When I was learning about the religions of the world in middle school, they NEVER went into this kind of philosophy when speaking of either Hindu or Buddhist belief systems. I was always taught about these thought systems based on Western assumptions.

And Buddha would tell you the same if he could, but he can’t because he doesn’t have that kind of power. POWER or the lust there of is what got Lucifer kicked out of heaven . The fact is that things didn’t go the way “ you wanted “ and that made you mad. Just like Lucifer. Quite playing games and go back to Jesus Christ, you know it’s the right thing to do. This sounds akin to saying: You in the A corporation send messages to the president of the company. We don't have a concept of a president who runs the company, or even anyone who leads the company here at B corporation. We send messages to the board of directors. They don't lead the company. They direct the company. If we want to know about B corporation's reason for hiring us, we direct our questions to director John. He said he would help us. He taps into knowledge from director Prime who is also called chairperson, or the original innovator of the company. Director Evan said, that director John said that there were actually millions of chairperson's of this company even though this company started when Prime started the company when he was 37 years old. If that sounds reasonable to you, then Buddhism is a reasonable choice according to your thinking. It sounds like double-talk to me.

I have a question. Buddhism teaches, as far as I am aware, that there is such a thing as the law of karma, which might be defined as the law of cause and effect in the moral sphere. I want to know what ontologically grounds this moral law? In other words, why is the universe we inhabit such that there is this moral law? Even more fundamentally, why, for Buddhists, is there being rather than non-being? Why is there anything at all?

These are the kinds of questions Buddha refused to answer. They are based on speculation and will lead to the proliferation of views, not to clarity. His teaching was focussed on what would set you free, not entangle you further in various views.

@@MrResearcher122 I'm sure he did when he started. The difference for us is that he had the ability to overcome that "thicket of views" where the rest of us find ourselves. If most samsaric beings could overcome those views, most samsaric beings would be buddhas. Of course, those questions will arise naturally, but he taught us how to find our way out of that thicket. Better to stick to the path, than wander off on your own. Test the path, but be careful of exploring too far from it, lest you get lost. Time is short.
@MrResearcher1222 жыл бұрын
@@SBCBears It strikes me Buddha lived in a very philosophical environment and,despite his stress on empiricism, and caution regarding speculation, ontogical and philosophical questions are at the root of Buddhism. It is clear questioning and offering different answers to questions has led to the various Buddhist philosophical schools. Questioner above was merely asking a question, which wasn't speculative, but practical. I'll quote something from Wikipedia on Buddhist philosophy: "The early Buddhist texts mention that a person becomes a follower of the Buddha's teachings after having pondered them over with wisdom and the gradual training also requires that a disciple "investigate" (upaparikkhati) and "scrutinize" (tuleti) the teachings.The Buddha also expected his disciples to approach him as a teacher in a critical fashion and scrutinize his actions and words, as shown in the Vīmaṃsaka Sutta." It can be said that was what the questioner,Michael Lee,was doing. As to the Monk in video, he studied comparative religion at Cambridge,in England. He would have encountered Western poetical and philosophical thought. He quotes Milton to make a simple claim by the Buddha. Now in other areas of his life, where he was more controversial, it would have been wise for his students to question him, in line with Buddha's own iconoclasm regarding teachers and teachings.

Buddhist pray to no one. The concept of "prayer" is not in buddhism. All buddhists do is eliminate suffering by understanding and practicing the 4 noble truths. They meditate in the here and now and understand the nature of this as they are without attachment. Please note that buddhist do not use a word which has the same meaning as "pray". This is a problem of using English language which is closely assosciated with a theistic religion. Budhist meditate and chant the teachings. That is all.
@AverageBuddhist882 жыл бұрын
I’m not sure what culture you are from, but you are pretty wrong here. Even Theravada (which is mostly atheistic) promotes praying so the practitioners can feel more connected to their inner spirituality and pay respect to the triple jewels. Mahayana,on the other hand, has multiple gods that people pray to, like Guan Yin, Budai and Amitabha. Often they even pray for help in aspects like finance and career. Then there is Vajrayana (what the lama in the video practices) which also has many gods like Avalokitesvara, Manjusri, Mahayana, Tara and many more. So in general Buddhists do pray to different deities or buddhas

Different religions have their own concepts or beliefs about God... but who is truly right and who is wrong?... God is who He/She/It is beyond any religion or story... We say God is omnipotent and omnipresent but we limit Him/Her/It to a bearded man in the clouds... If God is truly limitless then God is all genders, all races, all religions, all life and all of the universe... Religious stories limits us from thinking what God truly is... Religions give us a packaged version of what God is and what God is not and that certain religions or races are more special than others, and that is wrong.

Sogyal Rinpoche made an intellectual error when he talk about God. "Buddhism deny concepts of God but not nature of God". It's a big error because nature of God is a concept of God. This error come from the fact he try to explain Buddhism by using Christianity concept. No meaning here but just an error. "Our innate need to compare ourselves to others often takes us away from our true identity" Daniel Desbiens

winphet I think he was saying they know God exists but choose to focus on His truths and morals rather than try to comprehend his infinity which is enough to give anybody a headache. Infinity is painful to think about because our minds are finite. its like putting a flagpole into a Wal-Mart bag, the bags going to be too small to fit the pole

You are praying to a man who is not God and hoping for some “enlightenment”. What if that man was wrong and was just leading you guys astray from the truth?

With all the Respect.. why does a Master uses so much Words to Explain a single core question ?? Buddhist are not agree after all ? that means they have divided thoughts ? why he never mention LOVE ? God is the Answer and Jesus Christ the way... Love to God, and to Others is the answer !

By believing in God/Gods, u will never be a God[s] or equal to God[s]! By believing in the Buddha, u will 1 day become a Buddha & be equal to the Buddha! Buddhism does believe in God/Gods! Buddhism believes that Gods/God is not the Creator of all things, the Supreme 1 or The All Powerful One that can help, reward or punish us because God/Gods r still in the Wheel of Samsara, just like us! Only believing in the Buddha & his teaching can help U out of "Wheel of Samsara"

Read the Pali canon and you'll learn that Buddha was neither a philosopher nor was even remotely interested in God or any other theistic nonsense. Read the Kalama Sutta, for example, which is an ancient gem packed with critical thinking, reason and rationality and unequivocally condemning faith. You'll find no such praise of intellect in any other religion. Despite that, limitless human credulity managed to turn such a gem into a faith based movement, like any other stupid religion out there.

Buddhism is older than Islam, and Islam opened the ways to learn and know about God, it teaches about the existence of God, Islam revealed after buddhism and is teaching about the existence of God so i think you should accept the later, as later versions of everything is much more complete and latest than the older versions about everything, simple !!!! it doesn't mean that Islam invented God, but islam introduced human being to God, who was present from the beginning, which people did not know and used to wander here and there in search of God (as bhudda did). How it is possible that a most complete and well mannered creature (human) is created by self??? think about it, and you will enter into a world of real Light which will light up your everything. There is only one life in this world but there is also another world (as Bhudda said), where we will get our rewards (bad or good) according to our deeds(bad or good) in this world, and that will be eternal life (with no death), i think Bhudda teaches us about that life, but you have misunderstood it wrongly with rebirth into this world with the same soul or person. No one is reborn into this world after his death.
