"You don't know how hard it is being a woman looking the way I do." "You don't know how hard it is being a man looking at a woman looking the way you do." "I'm not bad. I'm just drawn that way." Drink it in. You will never see another movie where Tinkerbell, Porkie Pig, Donald Duck, Daffy Duck, Micky Mouse, Bugs Bunny, and many others come together in one movie ever again. This movie is also a technical marvel. The hard work in filming live-action scenes and then animating them, is legendary. It's also beyond the scope of this comment. Fun Fact: Bob Hoskins said that, for two weeks after seeing the movie, his young son wouldn't talk to him. When finally asked why, his son said he couldn't believe his father would work with cartoon characters such as Bugs Bunny and not let him meet them. Real Science Fact: The dip that kills the toons is made of turpentine, acetone, and benzene. All are paint thinners used to remove paint and images from cels. Pause Button Opportunity Fact: When the toon train hits the Dip Machine, each window shows a murder or death taking place (if viewed frame-by-frame).

“Shave and a haircut, two bits!” is the famous 7-note ending riff used for comedic effect (hence why Roger couldn’t resist it). It’s also the famous door knocking sequence you use when you roll up to a friend’s door. Dat da da dat dat…dat daaaat! Also, nobody catches the joke that Valiant’s girlfriend drops at the movie theater, “I had to shake the weasels” which was a guys’ euphemism for taking a piss.

“Oh, this ain’t made for kids, is it?” Not so much, no! Although when my sister and I saw it at a mid-week matinee (we were both out of work at the time and could go then), we were the only adults in the theater unaccompanied by kids. For so many of the jokes, we were the only ones laughing, since they flew way over the kids’ heads and the moms were too horrified to even giggle.

There are 3 other Roger Rabbit cartoons that you can still watch if you're ever interested in more. They're 10 minutes each but they all took years to make. Richard Williams was known for being such perfectionist with his animations that's how the movement is so fluid and the lighting is near realistic. And never will we get another legendary mashup like this again. Studios weren't beefing then and weren't caught in their own self righteousness when they made this. Also you can see Eddie Valiant as a drawn cartoon in just a few frames during the taxi chase scene ( :

LOVED this reaction! Roger, Jessica, Baby Herman, and Benny were original for this story, but the rest were either existing licensed characters, or generic characters made for the film. And kids went to this, but it wasn't marketed to kids, a lot of those adult jokes and comments were in the commercials, like "I got a 50-year-old lust and a three-year-old dinky." I doubt there'll ever be anything like this. As a teen who still appreciated animation as a medium, this was definitely pure joy to watch in the theater. This film was so revolutionary, it took franchise crossovers and the combination of animation and live action to a whole new level, as well as reinforcing that animation wasn't strictly for children's entertainment while paying homage to the animation pioneers. Zemeckis said he wanted Disney's animation, Warner's characterization, and Tex Avery's humor. It really was made for an older audience at that time, not just the more grownup themes, but the nostalgia factor too.

To answer your question about the "Shave and a Haircut" song. "Shave and a Haircut" and the associated response "two bits" is a seven-note musical call-and-response fanfare riff popularly used at the end of musical performances, usually for comedic effect. It is used melodically or rhythmically, for example as a door knock. And "two bits" is a term in the United States and Canada for 25 cents.

@Cre80s Жыл бұрын
This entire film was a late-80s love letter to the golden era of cartoons. It was amazing that they were able to get all the studios to agree to pitch in, like they KNEW what it was going to be. It was for us Gen-Xers all the way up through the Lost Generation, since they were the old fogies in the early cinemas who saw cartoons being born. It was a loving tribute to the entire era, set at it's peak in the 40s, and wrapped up in a film noir-esque who-dun-it. It's so cool that you were legit wondering if Roger was an an actual cartoon from the real past, which shows how successful they were at creating a generic "all in" lead cartoon character. And if this movie was marketed directly towards kids, yes and no. I don't think the ads and promotions the studio created were, they were aimed at us Gen-Xers, and kinda our parents. The fact kids were sucked in was more the overall hype machine and word of mouth. There were lots of kids in the theater, and yes, they were scared here and there, but the 80s was the time of "kids can take it." I was a teenager by the time it peaked, so of course I loved it, but even when I was a kid, I appreciated shows directed at me that expect me to take a little bit more than I was comfortable with, to flex me. I think many, many Gen-Xers felt the same. Like Jim Henson said, he felt that children liked the idea of being scared and that this was a healthy emotion for them with which to deal. I can't imagine how boring childhood would be without all the images of things that scared me in the moment. This movie is not only an endearing tribute to the golden age of cartoons, it also is a marker when they were all finally dying, traditional animation. Just a few more came out, and even those had key moments of computer animation, which was regarded as "cheating", which I found unfair. Good is good, bad is bad. There's been plenty of shitty traditional animation and worthy computer animation. It’s a case-by-case basis, and computers are just a fancier pencil, and the hands in control of it is what counts. Anyway, great reactions to a great film of a great tribute to a great time in yet another great time.

NOTHING like this could exist today. they wouldn't spend so much time and money for one thing.. and they would never make a movie with cartoons in it that has a plot that's centered around a toon killing a human; by dropping a safe or piano on his head no less (which is a brilliant writing touch btw). i mean maybe they would but they sure as hell wouldn't have mickey mouse or bugs bunny in it.. much less together

21:55 "Shave and a haircut, two bits!" This is the tune that you hear at punchlines in old cartoons. Bump, bada bump, bump... Bump bah! It is a comic song performed by Milton Berle in 1939--Shave and A Haircut, Shampoo--and refers to the price of a visit to the barber before World War II. Two bits is a quarter--people used to cut coins in half to have that value of money: a hay penny would be half-a-penny and one bit would be half-a-quarter, worth 12.5 cents. A pre-war shave would traditionally cost 15 cents and a haircut would cost the same, 30 cents altogether. Get a shave and a haircut at the same time for a quarter and you save five cents. I read a book from the 1950s many years ago, I don't remember what the book was, but a kid sings "Shave and a haircut, six bits!" which indicates the rising cost of living after World War II.

I like to think that the bad guy judge doom was a weasle toon under the mask. Thats why he had the same crazy red eyes. I think he was supposed to be like the most deadly weasle but his voice got in the way so he wore a mask and changed his voice when he spoke. You could hear it when he told the detective how he spoke when he killed his brother. I think as a toon in general, plus with his voice no one would ever take him seriously so he deemed the disquise and made the dip to get revenge. He wanted success outside of being a toon hence the want for the freeway achievement.

They had to get permission to use the toons from all the different companies to allow all of them to be in the same film. The only stipulation was that they had to share screen time with each other. That is why you see Daffy and Donald and Micky and Bugs Bunny in the same one as well with each other. This won several awards including best actor for the main character who played the detective who was the drunk who cracked the case. It was a masterpiece

I think your pupper is super concerned for your well-being. When you sit in that chair and start talking, he knows you're going to start watching something, then it's: yelling, startling, laughing, anger, and sadness. 💓🐕🐕 so he's trying to love you up so you'll be ok

What up from LA California , My Elementary School took our graduating class to go see this movie The Summer before we started junior high school in 1988 ( which was still 7th grade at the time)... They didn't realize what they were letting us watch at the time. After seeing what happened to Optimus Prime and the majority of the first generation Autobots in Transformers the movie 1986 everything else was a walk in the park...

This reaction played out exactly how i expected it to go. The best part is where you said that you didnt understand why this movie was scary. I taped this movie when i was little from a film channel. there were two movies on that tape. First was Roger Rabbit. The other one was the original Robocop. The only scene i skipped always as a kid was the Judge Doom is a toon scene. I was about 7 to 8 yrs old then. And by that time i already seen Childs Play 1 and 2 and the Exorsist all in the same day. But the Judge Doom scene haunted me for year in my dreams hahaha

Sorry, I'm binge-watching your videos, you are a very good reactor to watch :D Bob Hoskins, the guy that played the main character, said in an interview once that this film nearly destroyed his mental state. He nearly became insane, like legit insane because acting so long opposite nothing and nobody was rough for him. His daughters managed to save him by getting him some help.

Crazy fact, The Dip was originally going to be named The Final Solution. but was deemed too dark (despite being a fantastic pun also.) Its crazy how well they are able to plainly show and disguise a movie about genocide by using cartoons as a stand in

Bob Hoskins had one of those "every man" faces. He was also extremely British, which blew my mind then, and continues to today. The only other movie I can think of, that he was in, is Hook. Of course, he was a very well-known actor, on both sides of the pond, at the time of this movie's release.

This movie was the very first date I went on with my wife back in 1988. And no, it was not marketed as a kid’s movie. 😂 And it practically swept the Oscars that year. It was pretty much a perfect movie. And keep in mind they didn’t have CHI back then, so the actors literally had to interact with nothing but air whenever they were interacting with a toon. Great movie and reaction. 👍

I saw this when I was five, the only part that messed with me was the weasel clinging to his soul leaving his body to stop himself from dying. I saw it on Thanksgiving day while having some pie. It's a nice memory Needless to say, making this movie was a minor miracle, getting all the licenses lined up and everybody being cool with each other. It was a once in history film To note, the Chip n Dale Rescue Rangers movie that came out last year takes place in the same universe, though it is not nearly as good as this and has many modern sensibilities, but was still a fun watch

House with a secret passage? I see you are a man of culture, as well; that has long been one of my life goals. It'll happen one day, even if I have to commission an urn with a false bottom in it to dump my ashes in. It's a secret door, it counts.

I watched this when I was little and it was disturbing. The poor little shoe that Doom killed, Doom being rolled over and then him melting, WHEW! It was scary but I still loved the movie and watched it repeatedly. This may have been one of the first movies that turned me into the horror-thriller buff that I am and its a weird thing to realize that now.

This movie was the first VHS tape I owned. Before that Christmas, VHS tapes were sold to rental stores only and the prices were crazy high to match the amount of money the tape would make over time. I remember seeing an ad in a magazine selling the movie Ghost for $100 on Valentines day. This movie and Batman '88 were sold for the low price of $20, which made them an affordable Christmas gift. Watched it so many times I wore the tape out.
