Leclerc's rookie season was the closest thing to Lewis Hamilton 2007 He had 6 top 7 finishes in a Sauber. I remember Sochi 2018 when he was able to compete with the big three (Mercedes, RB, Ferrari) and knew that he was world champion material

Brining Charles in and giving him a long term contract is one of the best things Ferrari have done in the recent years. It's such a shame the car is not on RB or MB levels otherwise we'd now be seeing one of the most exciting seasons in F1 history. It's already amazing as is with Max and Lewis fighting for wins week-in week-out, but imagine having Charles as part of this group too... hopeful for next season!

I think Yuki's been properly nobbled by F1's massively reduced testing and practice sessions, and the sport is going to have to look at changing the rules if its going to give rookies a fighting chance. The big exception to Yuki's struggles was Bahrain: where he'd actually spent a decent length of time because of pre-season testing.

All the drivers at new teams apart from Sainz are performing below where they should be (Alonso and Vettel should be further ahead of their teammates, and Ricciardo and Pérez are underperforming massively), so it makes sense that the rookies are doing even worse. I wonder where Haas would be with Magnussen alongside Schumacher

Gotta give some leniency to Latifi as well because despite having a full winter test in 2020, his season was then suddenly delayed from March to July where he couldn't do any actual practice other than the F1 game in his home simulator. He was then the only rookie in a messy season where nobody was sure if it'd be cancelled any weekend. Quite the hand to be dealt as an F1 rookie.

Sainz got unlucky in the races w reliability which kind of saved hulks rep. No one thinks hulk slapped up sainz, he should have done much better considering his experience compared to his teammate.

To be fair to Latifi, he really is improving. His qualifying isn’t really there yet and obviously he’ll never be George Russell, but his race performances have been very solid this season and I think he’s earned a 3rd year in the sport

Knew it was going to be Charles Leclerc... Anyone who watches F1 and actually pays attention, knew that year that he's one of the biggest talents of this sport and is multi-world champion in the right car. He then did what Lewis did to Alonso but on Vettel. Lewis and Alonso were pretty much on par with Lewis getting the team treatment after he showed his amazing performances in the first few rounds, and the exact same happened to Leclerc. Yes, Seb had more reliability issues than Leclerc, but Leclerc still outqualified him just like Lewis did to Alonso. Max >= Leclerc >= Russel. These are my top 3 best "next gen" drivers, in that order. I believe Lando has potential to also be part of this group, since he is smashing Ricciardo harder than Max did in 2017 and 2018, and actually, Max didn't exactly "smashed" Ricciardo in those years either. But again, car/driver harmony matters so much.

Just to add, Giovinazzi's bad performance for many times in this 2021 was mostly due to wrong strategy from the team rather than Giovinazzi not having the pace or not being enough. Giovi has been in many races close to the Ferraris of Leclerc and Sainz. I think, especially for this season, most fault should go the team rather than the pilot!

Charles and Carlos are like Hamilton and Button. On pure ability Charles/Hamilton is far quicker than Carlos/Button but on consistency, tyre management and maturity Carlos/Button often got the better of their quicker team mate. However Pure pace is hard to improve whereas consistency and maturity is easier to improve

6:10, ah yes.. The days when Perez was very polarizing… The Belgian GP when they came together shortly after T1, Perez was deemed by a few people that he needed to be charged with attempted murder (lol), by most people he was extremely unsportsmanlike and at times, a very dangerous driver (me), many people just being neutral, and then back down to a few people who thought his driving was good (in terms of driver etiquette). It’s kind of funny that the general consensus can swing to the polar opposite side of the spectrum in such short time periods. Obviously, winning a race in his second to last race before being out of contract and future prospects definitely helps lol (and doing OKAY in 2nd seat, better than drivers prior until Ricciardo).
