Sergio for sure was better. He came in bigger than past shows. Better legs in every angle and condition was sharp. Arnold came in smaller and worse conditioning, especially the legs. Sorry but Arnold just had good Pecs and biceps and nothing else.

Have you seen good photos of the 1980 Mr Olympia? Sure, Arnold was at 80% probably and weighed less than usual, but he still looked better than the others on stage. Arnold had an excellent back with a cleary visible christmas tree.

It’s nothing we think about today, but in the 70s to support black athletes would have isolated the audience and athlete participation. Namely, I believe it was an intentional decision to maintain a white (larger) audience.

Even with newer drugs, Sergio still miles behind Arnold. This should not be any debate. If anything, Sergio looked worse in his comeback.....he wasn’t as good as Arnold back then, and he sure wasn’t as good in his comeback. Oh, and in Arnold’s comeback, he won the Olympia. My views: 1) Arnold legitimately beat everyone in 1980 (and I'm a huge fan of Zane, Mentzer, and Platz) 2) Sergio only lost to Arnold on chest and biceps: virtually every other body part had better insertions and shape 3) Sergio's conditioning could've been better, and this is both the reason why it's fair that Arnold starting beating Sergio and why the comeback version of Sergio could've beaten Arnold.

In Arnold's book The Education of a Bodybuilder Arnold stated when he first laid eyes on Sergio he was in a state of disbelief at how massive Sergio was and admitted defeat instantly. Joe Weider changed the judges at the last moment at 1970 Mr Olympia ! Disqualified Sergio at the 71 Mr Olympia ! To me that speaks volumes !

Sergio should of won in 1970, 1972 and 1980 hands down and also was blacklisted by Joe Weider for many years. There was some definitely some prejudice because of Sergio's skin color and Arnold was touted as Weider's golden boy.

Both should have stayed retired. Arnold ripped off the 1980 Olympia thanks to the judges. Sergio had no chance against Lee Haney in 1984.

Arnold as a bodybuilder is the greatest ambassador, but Arnolds physique is very overrated, he's all chest and biceps, not only is he nowhere near as symmetrical and proportioned as Sergio, he also was compared to most of who he competed with. His height, his personality, and him being Weider's rent boy were the bigger factors towards his success than his actual physique.

@@theamericanboah5435 yes in 71 and 74 he was great, his best! but even then his chest and biceps were dominant, hence why his posing routines largely consisted of front and twisted double bicep shots. I mean in pumping iron they all joked about Arnolds legs so there must be some truth to him not being consistent with his legs. All I'm saying is compared to someone like Robby Robinson he wasn't from a physique standpoint as perfect and symmetrical as most people think he was. Also considering Arnold was Joe Weider's man, kinda strange how he used the body of Robby Robinson instead of Arnold's for the Joe Weider bust on the famous Logo.

Sergio made a greater comeback 4 years after Arnold, some years older and against tougher competition. He was short changed so badly by those IFBB/Weider assholes in the early ‘70s. They were no different in ‘84 they almost sabotaged his return it was a miracle he made it to the arena and competed. The whole shameful story is online.

Arnold's return of 1980 was manipulated by the jury and organizer, as well as his charisma. Arnie was smaller, with poor legs and didn't have the 1975 definition. He had never faced so many opponents at Olympia. He didn't deserve more than fifth or sixth place. The return of Oliva was correct, no one in the jury made any favoritism. His form in 1985 had improved compared to 1984, but his position did not improve. He was always the "myth", but the definition of him was not perfect, as usual ..... and his legs, after the knee surgery were much more resized. It would have been impossible to get better places with all those competitors in great shape. It was the 80s, Sergio was no longer in top form than him.

Sergio was banned from competing in the IFBB after 1972, a very corrupt decision. In 72 it could have gone either way, but had he not been banned he probably have improved the following years. He was past his prime in the 80s.

Sergio had better calves ( no implants) and his pecs relatively to his size was as good as Arnold's. Sergio actually had larger biceps but Arnold had the higher peak. In addition Sergio's enormous forearms prevented full flexion.

They both won the Olympia. Sergio had a far superior physique as compared to Arnold at least up to the early 80s. Arnold was generally leaner, a better poser and white. Sergio could have easily won in 1970. In 1971 when he wasn't allowed to compete but guest pose he looked better and in 1972 looked much better.
