People only start looking at teams that can win home but can't win away because in the past they haven't won consistently at home. Gold Coast will win at least half their away games plus most home games eventually, and they will be a finals team at that point

Tradition can be described in another way... intergenerational guilt tripping. It's ridiculous to hold players to this criteria when the nature of the game, its rules and interpretations, and more importantly the length and frequency of suspensions have radically changed. These young players are still learning and will make mistakes, it's a ridiculously onerous requirement.

Now you have a full squad while other teams have injuries for example Richmond, Essendon, Collingwood, Brisbane all have key players missing. You have a lot of advantages. First of all you have a 10 day break going into this Essendon game who they only have a 7 day break, then you have a 2nd bye, then Geelong and an easy fixture to close out the season.
