Thomas's stick makes it amazing, especially because he's done it before too, but Biles's high chest and form makes it just as amazing.

To be fair the chest position in landing is always different between men and women. Most men land with lower chest position i am not sure if it is something to do with the difference re the center of gravity between male and female body? But regardless both vault look great for me, but Simone's looks slightly out of control on the landing... But i def like both the same...

Simone… Chest up on the landing, rising off the table, and position on the table.

Simone's landings have been getting better over time. Once she gets a stick/near stick I think her vault will be better because of better lines in the air and a higher chest on the landing. Usually (in my opinion at least), when women and men are both executing a skill that they can do well, the women look better. For example Kohei Uchimura vs McKayla Maroney on the Amanar. Maroney gets higher, lands with a higher chest, and has all around better style. But men can do much more difficulty on vault, and are especially much better at front saltos and double saltos.

I think both are at par, Simone definitely had higher airtime but that's partially because of her smaller frame but Thomas had a stick landing and that is in part due to his body greatly able to absorb the force coming down plus a little lower height so the force is lesser and doesn't need to bound out as much. So both would score fairly similar in execution to be fair

Never understood the chest position debacle. Feel like you have to choose between the chest being up and automatically having to take a step back, or the chest being lower with the possibility of sticking. I just can’t see a scenario in high power vaults with landings facing the table like this where you can both have the chest up and also stick. There’s an immense amount of force heading away from the table, you aren’t just dropping straight down from the sky, and unlike vaults with landings facing away from the table where you can use your feet/toes to counter forward momentum, your heels do nothing to stop backward momentum. You’d need to have the chest forward to counter that backward force to be able to stick. Like in this video, Simone had a perfect chest position on paper, but that chest position also lead to her needing at minimum a -.3 step back to keep her from falling . Thomas had the perfect chest position to be able to stick. He could have easily raised his chest to avoid a low chest deduction but he would have had to take a step back. They’re both great, think Simone’s is more exciting in the air as it demonstrates an unworldly amount of raw power, but Thomas demonstrated a perfectly synchronized vault that lead to the stick. Can’t choose but yeah the chest position expectation is silly

Men naturally have lower chest positions on landing because they are top heavy. Someone posted a long explanation of the physics men and women have different centers of gravity.

I don’t know anything about gymnastics but it’s really so different! He makes it look really easy and almost routine, whereas she makes it look exciting and powerful. (Plus, he sticks the landing with his chest down and she doesn’t with her chest up) -Elsbeth’s son David

Simone is cleaner and higher with a more upright landing. All this coming from a vault table significantly lower than the men use.

I don't know if you have noticed but basically every men's artistic gymnastics landing (even on floor) is with their chest significantly low and this has to do with men's center of gravity

@@britneyg5522 that is 100% true. Women have a lower center of gravity. So in women gymnastics you will more often see landings with bend keens whan with low chests.

Thomas, not by a lot though. obviously the stick with bonus helps, but regardless, before the flight element Biles already messed up slightly leaving her to fly sideways then touching the line and being less stable

definately Simone all the way. Lighter in the air, spins way faster thereore key point faster with her chest up while landing. He has trouble getting his chest up.

Simone EASILY. Kristian's chest was sooooooooooo low. Simone had more power she didn't use, thus, no stuck landing. Simone's also was flightier, had more bounce and lightness in the air, whereas Kristian (even though he covers it well) still seems to strain in the air. It was the first and only televised one she's done. You can find multiple warm up and training videos of her sticking it.

Yes but men's center of gravity is higher than the women, so men's usually land with a lower chest position (of course there are exception, like Carlos yulo)

Dude literally walked into that vault. He landed chest low as a result of going for the stick. Which in a high backward rotational vault like this, requires compensating at the landing or taking a step backwards.
