Megan Young describes her experiences and her beginnings as she faces difficulties in what she has to choose. She talks about who she wanted to be and how this defined herself.
Megan Young is an avid actress and has participated in many television programs nationwide. She has inspired many Filipinos mainly due to her talent, her kindheartedness, and her humility. Megan is also the winner of the 2013 Ms. World beauty pagent at the age of 23, being the first Filipina to claim the title. Moreover, she is a student at De la salle, college of St. Benilde. balancing all these cannot be easy, however, she remains to be hardworking and never fails to impress everyone. Aside from this, she sets aside time to do charity work, her way of giving back to the community that she has lived in.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

I think sometimes people expect/ get used to the Western style of communicating, not realizing that there are other cultural ways of speaking. In this case, a testimony or story was the format. Many Filipinos value humility and sometimes include self-humbling side comments or anecdotes in order not to appear boastful. To those who didn’t get through the whole video, these are some of the points: 1. Simply waiting for what’s meant for you is not a good idea because trying puts you in the door. It gets you a step further. 2. Success and happiness are earned. They don’t just come your way. It takes a lot of work to get there. 3. People whom she idolized and one who discouraged her that she couldn’t make it, also worked hard to be where they are. 4. The lady discouraging her was probably trying to tell her to try harder (which in her story, you can see that she indeed lacked the drive before). 5. Instead of superficial desires, the question stood out to her about what she really wants to be. 6. It doesn’t have to be big [this is a running theme of all her speeches]. She can help in small things. 7. If in the past she was fearful, that day, she made a phone call. And the rest is history (Ms. World pageant later). Now for the hidden gems that were not directly stated: 1. Very rarely would you have a worldwide pageant contestant be so vulnerable in describing how celebrity opportunities left her feeling empty 2. How there was a time she cried a lot because someone said she didn’t have what it took to succeed 3. How she didn’t know what to do with her life 4. She failed a lot. She got rejected a lot. Her self confidence went down the drain. For me personally, when I see women so poised like her, I have this idea that they must be so good at everything they do, not fearful, naturally confident and have people catering to them left and right. Her being vulnerable made her very relatable and human, and it makes her point to try something an act that an average person can also do.

This tedx talk really references and revolves around filipino pop culture and it's probably the reason why this is not appreciated worldwide. For us who understand the references, it makes a lot of sense and it's truly fun to watch how captivating megan young is! ❤️ lots to you megan!!

Palagay ko the "lady" coach she's talking about ay si Miss Vilma Santos. Kapamilya young stars did a workshop with her before that was shown on TV and Megan was asked to slap miss Vilma by miss Vilma herself but she didn't do it coz it's the "star for all season"...Megan got intimidated maybe despite all of the provocations (shouting, insulting etc.) of miss Vilma..and yes all she did (megan) was cry...and cry... But i think miss Vilma didn't really mean it when she said "you'll not succeed in the showbiz industry" she just wanted to challenge megan...and i know megan knew it and is thankful for that workshop and the lady.

She's really a good speaker.. I was like 8 or 9 years old when I saw Megan, she was a contestant in Starstruck at that time and I'm a poor boy who knows nothing who was innocent and pure during those days.. but then for some reasons (and I'm not sure what that reason was not until she decided to Join Miss World ) I just started to look up to her, I don't really mind about other people but there was really something that is different about her tho she didn't won in that competition she still stayed as one of people that I look up to and then she joined Miss World and I was really like "wow! The time has come and here she is.. I couldn't watch the show live because Zamboanga siege was happening around that month and our house is in the barangay where the siege happened but we were able to live around 5 am on that day bec a friend of my dad called him around that time and I woke up hearing my dad talking on the phone and when he put down his phone my ma'am asked him who the caller was and why did he call, my dad answered her and after a few words that came out from my dad We heard a sound of a fired gun and we hurriedly went down stairs and left all of our things in our house and only bright a single piece of clothe bec we didn't know what was ahead of us.

As indicated above this was organized by a local organization, therefore, her audience was made up of young Filipinos. Maybe, there's no wrong in glancing or reading once in a while her copy and it does not mean that when you read your speech, you are reading other's ideas. Anyways, what's important is she was understood by her audience and was able to inspire them with her experiences.

For you Ms.Megan. Be Thankful for that One Person that hurt your feeling ng sabihin nyang wala kang mararating...kasi shes a professional and she knows what is she’s saying to you , i think she did it on purpose, kasi, aaminin mo man o hinde, malamya ka kumilos at kulang pa ang acting skills mo noon.
