Emperor Ashoka: A Bloodsoaked Pacifist INDIAN HISTORY DOCUMENTARY
If you look at the flag of modern-day India or the money changing hands between modern-day Indians you may be surprised to discover that they have a link to an Emperor that reigned more than 2000 years ago.
He is one of if not the only powerful ruler in world history that tried to conquer by way of morality, and his giant stone pillars, once lost to the sands of time, but now raised again from the Earth tell the story of a complicated man, once bloodthirsty and then tranquil. A man that transformed Buddhism from a small philosophical sect into a global religion. But could his entire legacy be made up? Ancient propaganda still working today. We’ll look at all of this and more on this double episode on the life and legacy of Ashoka the Great.

It's great. Really good work but I guess one part of emperor is missing. After crowning Ashoka continued his expansion policy and won present day afghanistan and few parts of Iran this stretching his kingdom from burma to iran. Apart from that everything is very well explained 😊

@@CogitoEdu Please read about king shivaji maharaj. I bet you will regret never that. He is one of the greatest but most underrated king of India. He was not just great warrior and general but great leader and ideal leader as well. Please read my following thread to understand him . *why shivaji maharaj is the greatest king of India* At time of shivaji maharaj, 5 major players were ruling India. 1) mughal empire (richest empire of that time), adeelshai dynasty (second most powerful after mughals), siddis( fierce african warriors), Portuguese and Britishers. 2]Situation of that time was totally against anyone who wanted to create his own sovergin state. Those whoe tried it were miserably failed. 3] Governers and rulers of those days were brutally oppressing people. Rape was a comman thing. Subjects of the rulers were being treated as objects. And any revolt against this tyranny was resulted into nothing but tragic faliures. 4] In such a days, one day *at age of 14* shivaji maharaj gathered some of his friends and told them idea of *swarajya* , a sovereign kingdom where everybody will have freedom and justice. That time shivaji has no funds, not weapons, no 'trained' soliders and not any external support. 5]At the very beginning of his tiny kingdom he has to immediately face invasions of mughal empire and a adeelshahi dynasty. 6] His army was always outnumbered in battle. But miraculously shivaji maharaj was able to defeat most of the invaders and was able to create powerful mighty hindavi swaranya. 7]Besides this his governance, adminstarion, religious tolerance and respect towards woman makes him one of the greatest kings of India. (This is actually very important because most of the armies in history considered women and commeners as their property) These are not even 1 percent of his story. Please read books about him and try to make video on him

Buddhist is not common in india because many Hindu's take themselves as hindus but they also follow the teachings of Buddhism.. I would be the great example of it. And I bet there would be lakhs and lakhs of Hindus agreeing with me. The teachings are more or less the same and I wont say we are tolerant towards other Indic religion but there is a sense of acceptance. Indic religions feels more like ours than your, his, her, theirs..

I really like the video but I just wanted to say that Chandragupta wasn't from humble origins but was a prince whose family was killed by the Nandas and so he decided to kill them with the help of Chanakya as revenge

The 2001 Bollywood film Aśoka is mostly masala. But it's a fun watch! Also, there's an Indian brand of frozen vegetarian food called Ashoka. Their butter naan are more addictive than crack!

Not bitter/personally insulted that you didn't include Peter the Great. Nope. Not at all. Not a smidge. In all seriousness, great job! Digging the animations!

Chakrawarthin Ashok samrat" is one of my favourite emperor of all time . Can you please make one on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj , here in Maharashtra (India) we have a lot of respect towards Chhatrapti Shivaji Maharaj =we gave him the title of God of marathas as if he wasn't there, there might be chances we maraths might have not existed now because of those bloody mughals . can you make one on him !! A big fan from India :)

I hope to see more history uploads that are more in this vein or the similar to the first cogitos corner on k&g. I know the deal, they had to conform but I liked the first video better, this ones good as well

Yup, re watched this, loved it, the jokes are fun and the animation is just enough to be helpful without detracting or just adding filler, can't wait for part 2 and whatever else you have in store for us... I know its very hard because there's do little source info but the new world "battles" are great. I say aim for the targets that most ppl ignore... We don't need more versions of the battle cannae... Its been done and there's so many other interesting topics, that said, I'd certainly watch your version of cannae, I'm sure it'd be interesting. Thanks for the content!

Thank you. You're comment is really nice :D I will definitely be aiming for more obscure topics. There is a lot of fascinating history that hasn't been given a lot of attention.

- Cogito - tell ya what ... I just watched your newest release on k&g... Maybe I'm biased, I've been asking them for months to cover the new world ... And may be positively biased towards you now as well... But that was hands down my favorite upload on that channel! No joke, I can't wait for more, I'm so glad they're sticking with you, At least for the episodes they mentioned, hopefully more. I hope whatever deal you have with them works out for everyone. At any rate, my statement is that I would have liked that episode to be much longer... Its the info I like, not the graphics (so nice to have them upload without so much goofy footage from games). Maybe expanding on Mesoamerican culture would work for this channel. Its not well covered on other channels and you seem pretty knowledgeable on the subject. Food for thought, but seriously, that was great work!

bro you mished an intresting but small event where when after braking the fortress and finding most men dead , when ashoka declared his accent to the throne and had made a declaration to give anyhting they ask for to the 1st few people coming to the cort in celebration of his conquest, there an old woman went crying ans asked to return the life of her son and on being denied she went along the lines of "what great and glorious emporor, when you cant return my son why did you take him". this thing made king ashoka go in deep thought .
