Doppio vs Risotto is one of the best villain vs villain fights in all of anime. Because both of them are villains, you don't know who to root for and this makes the fight more interesting than your typical fight where the good guy defeats the bad guy.

Not gonna lie, my favorite fight of the part 5 and top 3 in all JoJo. This is peak Jojo for me. The characters, the uniqueness of stands, situation and, most importantly, the fight itself... Perfect. Two LOVELY characters at once: very little screen time, but shining nonetheless. Rizotto with his amazing design and the most metal fucking stand in all Jojo (pun not intended). Precious Doppio with an instant and interesting answer about who the boss is. Amazing episode. SPOILERS FOR THE NEXT EPISODE: You know the main part of any Jojo fight. The character is in a losing spot, about to die. It's hopeless. And then somehow he finds a way to win. This is the formula that we love. And what could be the peak of that formula other than the fight where character literally sees an UNCHANGEABLE future of his head being blown up, and still somehow wins with no bullshit? Idk, I feel hyped every goddamn time I watch or read this fight.

So, just to clear some stuff up: it's never confirmed one way or the other, but I like the interpretation that the boss' backstory is simply an urban legend. The boss is a man who completely erased all of his past, and the only thing left is some made up story due to there being nothing else to go on. Of course you can take his backstory as being literal but I just thought I'd put the other explanation out there. Also, I'm aware you're several episodes ahead on Patreon so you probably already figured it out, but to clear some stuff up; King Crimson has two steps to its power. The first step is what Doppio was given by the boss, "Epitaph." It allows the boss to see a few seconds into the future. The second part is the time skipping "King Crimson." During this time, the boss becomes invulnerable. If you shoot a bullet at the boss and then he uses time-skip, the bullet will still have fired, and it will still end up embedded in whatever wall or object is behind him, but the period of time in which it passed through the boss is skipped over and the boss' body will remain unharmed. In simple terms, the process is removed and only the result remains. The only exception to this is the boss himself. The boss is able to interact with things during this skipped time, e.g if he punches someone they'll die. In conjunction with Epitaph this allows the boss to position himself where he needs to be and take out his enemies without ever being detected. Of course, everyone else's memory of skipped time is erased and only the boss remembers what happened. King Crimson is a truly overpowered ability, just unfortunately a bit confusing to explain. I can't imagine being a manga reader trying to understand King Crimson while reading shitty translations back on the day 😂

What makes you think it’s fictionalised? I always thought that him changing physically was just exaggerated, and that he was simply standing up straight confidently, instead of hunching over like doppio does. To explain The Boss’ situation spoiler free for you guys: The Boss has something called multiple personality disorder, or DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder), as it has been renamed to in recent years. If you do not know what it is, you can research it, it is an extremely interesting disorder. To sum it up very quickly, the mind of a person experiencing an extremely traumatic event as a child, will literally subconciously often erase the memories of said trauma, aswell as fragment the persons mind, in order to protect the original, because the person would literally not be able to live a functional life if they knew of it, and the split personalities are there to protect the original from further trauma, or fulfil some other role that they are missing in life. The following may feel very spoiler-y, however it is actually NEVER mentioned in the anime or manga, and is only extremely likely fan theories to explain the boss’ past. So, the one that is just about guaranteed, is that Doppio is the original personality. This one makes perfect sense. He was described as clumsy and kind of an idiot as a kid. Checks out. The traumatic event is likely his birth-mother being released from prison and meeting with him for the first time. That would definently fuck him up. Now, for the juice. The Boss, as stated, is the second personality, subconciously created by Doppio’s mind to protect him. Protect him from what? He doesn’t want anyone to know who he is, and his severe trauma leads him to develop an alternate identity with the unwavering desire to protect ”himself” while being at the very top, with a hidden identity, so that absolutely nobody can hurt him. Now for the Stand, and exactly how the Boss and Doppio’s symbiotic relationship works. King Crimson, as Kelvin cleverly noticed, is comprised of two stands, technically. The first is King Crimson itself, THE BOSS’ stand. Second, is Epitaph, which is Doppio’s stand. Epitaph is a perfect stand for Doppio, a simple boy eager to know and experience his future. Even more perfect however, it is for the Boss, who can forcefully use it whenever he wants. As sus as this sound, for the sake of their safety, The Boss is the dominant one in their body, he controls just about everything, down to even what Doppio SEES AND HEARS, explaining the phone that the Boss uses to communicate with Doppio, because much like the trauma, Doppios mind also knows that if he were to find out about The Boss, his split personality, it would destroy him, and so a common trait with people in the real world with DID, the host very rarely even knows that they have it until diagnosed, which is pretty scary. Hope you guys read this and found it informative, I really like your reactions, and sorry for the lengthy message lmao.

There are two souls in one body. Doppio represents more of how the boss was in his youth- seemingly gentle, clumsy, shy, and the Boss represents the side of him without any inhibitions, power hungry, conniving, sneaky… I cant say I enjoy yet another instance in the media of someone with did being portrayed as having an “evil twin” type alter where they’re just completely evil and antagonistic, but I like Doppio. I would have preferred it if they stuck with the theming of the backstory and went a more…supernatural route instead of implying it’s an actual illness. Does that make sense? Also I see absolutely no love for Donatella (Trish’s mom) in the comments and I’m going to change that. Dona you absolute queen 👑 Rest In Peace

On the bit with the fortuneteller, his "ability" is completely natural like a skill of sorts that doesn't stem from a stand ability. Like Bruno's skill to tell a liar from a truther, or Tonio's skill as a Chef making delectable meals. Humans in the JoJo's universe seem to have the potential to learn a natural skill of sorts but it's really subtle, outshined by Stands, and more clarified and seen in the manga. Don't forget, Mohommed Abudul and Enyaba were also fortunetellers by trade too and they could list the Major Arcana (Tarot Card) stands with ease without them using the same name twice for a stand. I wish I could go on with the whole topic, unfortunately the substance I have provided is mostly surface level. It does show that Araki (the mangaka) has made quite a deep an interesting world.

God I am soooooo behind. Sorry, entering the final section of Uni of the trimester do it's been bit more busy. Also to top it off I have been sick as well (not covid thank lord) but anyway. We have finally got the name for our boss! or atleast this timid fellow called Doppio References this time! The Boss/Vinegar Doppio's condition may be a reference to King Crimson's "21st Century Schizoid Man", Vento Aureo being the first part to take place in the 21st century. The idea of Diavolo and Vinegar Doppio is very similar to the idea of Keyser Söze and Verbal Kint from the Brian Singer movie The Usual Suspects. Memorable memes this time! Ep 26: "Brrring ring ring ring, moshi mosh?" Interesting thing to note is that The Bosses/Doppios mom was on a remote island to be sentenced 10 years, but only been there for 2 years before showing that she was in labour from being pregnant. A baby is usually 9 months to be given birth... but technically since Boss/Doppio is special, it actually took 18 months to be born, hence why the guards were confused on how the fuck she was pregnant in the first place if she didn't show any signs even past a year, not even interacted with a male in a all female prison for a year and a half. Also the fact that the husband has been dead for 2 years... so it's also unknown how she got impregnated in the first place hmmmm.

BANGER fight, it's pretty darn cool. the way it ends is peak Jojo, too. only thing i don't like about the Metallica arc is Doppios irrelevant backstory which purposely makes no sense, and Risotto being underdeveloped. also, a bit of meta-commentary here, Kelvin makes a point to mention that Abaccios' Moody Blues is useless in battle, but, i could say the same thing about the entire squad but with detective work, so it's not like Moody Blues' lack of fighting ability is a big deal, when the rest of his party is USELESS at detective stuff. also, a CORRECTION, to be Bipolar is not to have an alter-ego inside your head. 'Bipolar disorder' is a mental health condition which causes extreme mood swings. It can indeed cause you to become manic for exceedingly long amounts of time, however to be more than one person is an unrelated matter. also, this isn't a criticism, but i find it funny that you're both so disturbed by the gore and body horror in JoJo despite it being one of the big alluring things in the series, as JoJo's body horror is super well drawn and super pretty. It's been a staple of JoJo since Phantom Blood. after all. lol

Okay I have to say- don’t look at the dates in this anime. Part 5 has a really bad issue with its timeline. Trish was literally born before her parents met due to her birthday being moved back a year and the date changed from April to june. Also, the boss has 2 birthdays, one in the anime in 1965 and one in the manga in 1967. Due to Trish’s updated birthday to 1985, if you used the original manga birthday for the boss, he would’ve been 17 when he conceived her. So most likely DP wanted to avoid a teen pregnancy. Also the fact that trish was born in June and not April like she originally was implies that her parents had like a 3 month long relationship instead of a one night stand type deal like they were trying to imply. Makes that whole “Donatella knew nothing about him” thing a bit fishier. So yeah just ignore all the dates
