I'm still working on my video about Black Holes! But in the meantime I wanted to share something I put together that should hopefully answer some questions I get quite a lot in the comments. It's been a bit of a crazy journey starting a channel about science and the Universe so I hope you enjoy this little look behind the scenes. The most important thing for me now is that I spend as much time as possible making more videos!
There's also some shots that didn't quite make it into my videos, plus a look at my first horrendous renders!
Do please let me know if you've got any questions!
If you enjoyed the video or channel please consider subscribing by clicking the link here:

If you'd like to support me further and my aim of making educational films about the Universe do please check out my Patreon here to subscribe: / epicspaceman
I post behind the scenes footage there as I make the next video and also put Patrons in the video as astronuat avatars! I hope to make these videos full time in the future so all the support is massively appreciated.

It’s not only one of the coolest videos, but also incredibly educational for a wide range of ages. It instantly reminded me of the Kurzgesagt channel, but now I see why. I shared that video with more than a handful (non-native English speaking) adolescents and they seemed to understand everything very well. It’s hard to get those kids interested for more than a few minutes nowadays, especially on science topics. That says a lot.

I just saw your black hole video, and the whole time I was watching it I had my jaw dropped. I was like, the production that went into making this must be crazy! From the background music to the voice quality, the information displayed, to the freaking visuals, like WOW! Then, coming to this video and discovering that this is all done by a single man, who does all of this as a part-time at that, and on top of that, a parent to young kids like HOW? You truly have inspired me to go back and reopen my Instagram Art Page that I left in a way I never thought of before. As you said, just start running, start that project. And man, you are running. Thank you so much, firstly that’s very kind to send my way and is greatly appreciated, secondly thank you for taking the time to write that. We sound very similar! My wife works long hours and I tend to fill in the gaps with the kids as my job is more flexible, my life is very different to how it used to be! I figure these videos are a bit like a computer game, when I can find moments I play it and finishing a video is like completing a level. Sometimes I can find a couple of hours to play and sometimes I have to wait a week before I have a moment. But it’s fun to do and feels rewarding without too much time pressure, doubly so as it’s something my kids might be proud of and especially when I get comments like this. So thank you, people like you are a big part of why I’m making them! I hope all is well with you and I’d just say it’s never too late to try a new hobby or passion, even if it seems impossible from where you are right now. Cheers!

What a wonderful comment, I’m so glad to could help! I don’t know if my approach to things works for other people and I know a lot of people have success making much more regular content so I’m much more of an anomaly, but what I can vouch for is how enjoyable it is to focus on one thing that you’re passionate about and make it for you, make it something you haven’t seen before that you’d like to. And hopefully, others will see that. Don’t spend forever on it though because you still need to iterate and move on to improve. And you go a bit mad when you’re just working on one thing for a while in my experience. Brilliant! Thanks so much and great to hear about your similar background, good luck on the Blender front, I’d say I’m a DoP at heart and just love that you can just make any kind of scene in Blender and render it in cycles and it can genuinely look like reality, it’s time consuming but really liberating. Glad you’re enjoying and good luck in your videography career!

I haven't searched the comments for this but I suspect someone else has already mentioned this. I definitely would like to do this, I really like VR and with Unreal Engine 5 it’s becoming feasible to have something photorealistic and I think headsets will converge on that in a few years. So definitely something I’d like to do soon it’s just finding the time as VR is still slightly niche!

I got my degree in physics focusing on astronomy, I spent most of my college years studying the stars, I've even contributed data to the orbits of the moons of Uranus and Neptune while working under a professor while I was there. I spent the past year of my life working at a planetarium after a few years of doing software development and burning out on it since I've always wanted to share my love for astronomy. Between the hard math, spending hours looking at dots on a computer screen to find orbital data, and dealing with the startling amount of bureaucracy at a science museum I think I had lost that wonder I had back when I first looked through a telescope or the first time I watched the Cosmos or the first time I saw the Pale Blue Dot. Your videos have made me feel like that bright eyed kid again. It's amazing what incredible visualizations can do.
