You actually have to think your way through battles and all your spells and everything matters, unlike final fantasy where you get 100 spells and there's clearly one winner. Its cuz he's yet another anime sword boy. It took sakurai until byleth to realize that people like weapons other than swords, so they also gave him an axe, bow and spear, and even a sword that stretches.

Drgaon Quest deserves some representation on Smash, but it wouldn't hurt to also have some original KH charchters on there too.

Dragon quest is hugely influential too! Did you know it even influenced pokemon’s trading system? Satoshi tajiri couldn’t get the rare drop of the mad cap on his save, while his friend childhood friend ken sugimori got two and was unable to share the spare with him. Christian Lopez uhhhh, may be they added those characters to get the Japanese people in smash which ended up becoming a success. Also, yeah, Xenoblade was also put in but that was a modern Nintendo franchise that barely anyone knew about, so putting him in smash would get people worldwide into his game.So, why add a character that would bring barely any Japanese people and western people to smash and is owned by by a company that can’t even return the favour for putting Cloud in smash. At this point I don’t even think we are even getting a square rep since I think right now Nintendo hates square for not returning the favour for putting Cloud in smash and giving Cloud only the bare minimum for FF representation. Idk man. I don’t think a DQ or even a squarenix rep is possible to put in the game. I may be very vocal right now but still, you have to see why he may not make it in the game and I want to ask you this question, what will your reaction be when he isn’t going to be a part of the fighter pass?

@@gijoe820 Im fully aware that we may not get another Square rep but if we are getting another one then I think DQ makes the most sense, granted I won't complain if we get Sora or someone else but the thing is DQ has been a series thats had much stronger relationship with Nintendo more so then FF not to mention its importance to the jrpg genre and massive popularity in Japan, so if there is any franchise that Square or Nintendo I feel would budge on its DQ, not to mention that they actually have DQ games coming to switch so marketing by adding a character in Smash would actually be a smart move; Ive also heard the creator of the series claim that its becoming something of an urgent matter for DQ to start gaining a bigger fanbase outside of Japan sense the core audience is getting old. As for the Cloud thing Im not sure, Ive heard so many reasons on why we have so little representation that personally I stopped caring.

Christian Lopez yeah, you have a point, but if it has a huge following in Japan but not anywhere else then what is the point of putting him in since all third-party characters are popular everywhere. You want proof that DQ is struggling outside of Japan, look at DQ 11s sales like three quarters of the sales are from Japan and sold only one million worldwide (not including Japan). So right now DQ ain’t doing that well for a game series that is one of Enix’s top IPs. The critics even say that it is hard for DQ to get more fans into their games unless they are big rpg fans. I also have a hard time thinking what DQ would bring to the table for Nintendo. Like, with Snake, Ryu and Megaman they are bringing their games to nintendo consoles and with Cloud, yeah you know how that ended. With DQ games already on nintendo consoles, it makes me wonder what will DQ bring to smash. With someone like Sora, they could bring KH games to the switch or even Lara Croft who could bring TR games to the switch, or putting a Mario rpg lotss Rep to smash could bring back the old formula for Mario rpgs and could give them some spot light and also bring back the old characters which would also mean more games to the switch. Actually, nevermind, Super Mario rpg lotss is a bad game and anyone with something associated with Mario rpg on their channel are losers, so maybe not that but still Sora and Lara could bring more stuff to the table for the switch. Also, yeah there are some DQ games coming to the switch in 2019 so I guess it is all up to the future.

Since Erdrick's name has been poppin' up more and more lately due to Smash leaks and more recently the datamine, a lot of opinions have been poppin' up regarding a character...most western fans don't really know or understand the significance of the inclusion if he really is coming to it. Destroyer Tank No one. But I’m going to disagree. Sora is no generic swordsman by any means. He can transform, and all the drive forms are very unique. It can sorta function like Jokers Arsene. He has magic, just like The Hero, and the magic can be as bland as Thunder to altering gravity and time itself. Sora can fly, use flowmotion, and etc as recoveries or transportation. And his final smash could be using an Attraction Flow, which there are a variety of- such as trains, roller coasters, and boats. Sora is very unique, and if you say otherwise then you probably haven’t played KH. Though, The Hero isn’t bland either, and is also a great use of a slot. Though you can’t hate on Sora because, he’s probably one of the most unique swordsmen ever.

I wouldn't say Cloud is totally uncalled for being a Playstation character, again Final Fantasy deserved a spot in Smash, and since Cloud is pretty much the most famous FF character next to Tidus from FF10 and Noctis from FF15, it was fitting to have the character that broke from Nintendo consoles join the battle, thus generating loads of hype and of course, money. I'm not so sure if Erdrick would be as profitable, but still he'd be a great addition.

Well with Mother 3...it's 10 years passing since it's release in JPN and every fan that loves Earthbound/Mother series wanting to play it in the west... Yeah it's way long past due for it's localization. ANYHOW isn't about Mother 3, it's about smash/DQ and yeah... The potential of DQ being represented in Smash with Erdrick is...amazing for every DQ fan out there, in japan and overseas! I don't know much about DQ to be honest, don't blame me or others for not knowing... But still just like with "Fire Emblem" in 2001 with Super Smash Bros. Melee (a game not known or released at all in the west until a year later with Fire Emblem on the GBA, then many years later becoming a smash hit series, esp. with the 3DS release of Awakening), the representation of Erdrick will bring forth a lot of attention to the DQ series, in terms of those who are new or know little or a lot about it! If he becomes a popular choice, who knows what will happen with DQ in terms of "recognition" in the west from hence forth. I'm excited for it if it happens hehe!

Also, this might be overpowered, but I would love, for like example, if they use DQ4 hero/heroin, that the final smash would be that 3 of Alena, Kiryl, Borya, Meena, Torneko, Maya, and Ragnar all pitch in to fight. So for DQ3 hero/heroin, you get 3 of Warrior, Fighter, Cleric, Mage, Thief, Dealer, Jester, and Sage to come join you in fight for Final Smash.

I always interpreted the title of Erdrick coming from DQ3's protagonists name. A Hero so legendary that having his name bestowed upon you is a medal of honour.

Dude thank you so much for explaining why Dragon Quest has earned its chance to be in Smash. I've been trying to point allot of the same points out myself. Dragon Quest is just such an iconic and impactful series...and its rich history with Nintendo only adds to how much the game has earned a chance to be in Smash. Even now I would bet Nintendo is going to publish Dragon Quest Builders 2 and Dragon Quest X S here in the west. Nintendo has always seemed to push and want to promote the series...so it makes so much sense to have it in Smash. I've been expressing my excitement for years at the idea, and it is exciting it might finally happen.

If you think about it for a moment, it really doesn't make any sense that Erdrick (Roto) isn't already in Smash. In Japan he is far more important than half the Smash cast, could have dozens of possible attacks ranging from normal spells to special moves seen in newer Dragon Quests and would also raise the awareness of the series in the west.

It’s crazy to think I saw the Heros get into smash and I was like “Who’s this guy? What is Dragon Quest?” And not really caring. And then this year I started really fixating on the Dragon Quest games. Their art (omg I love the character designs so much), music, and stories. So I definitely think think the Hero’s deserve to be in smash, and especially Erdrick from DQ 3.

I'll be very happy to have Erdrick in Smash. Love the original 3 DQ games, and 3 is PROBABLY the best? Hard to pick between 1 and 3, honestly. There's also rumors that it'll be a slime instead, which...cool? Seems a little jokey, though. On another note, Sora fans are really starting to sour me on the idea of having him in the game. Seriously guys, chill out. I'm seeing literal harrassment of Nintendo reps over this, and it's not okay. Besides, if Sqeenix wanted Sora in Smash, they would've preferred to have him in BEFORE KH3 came out. It's probably too late now. There's also A LOT of disrespect for Dragon Quest flying around from you guys, which absolute BS, since Kingdom Hearts (and JRPGs in general) probably wouldn't even EXIST without Dragon Quest.

In the time since I first saw this video, I only had a vague knowledge of Dragon Quest. But since I was in a dry spell of RPGs I figured “what the hell” and added Dragon Quest 1&2 and Dragon Quest 3 to my SNES Classic, and began playing all 3 about a month ago. Well, I just finished Dragon Quest 3 on the SNES and _holy shit_ . I have never seen such a beautiful looking game. The spritework is amazing, and even greater than Final Fantasy 6. The gameplay is by the book, but now I see why that’s not a bad thing when it’s that polished. The music, the locales, and the twist (even if it was a 30 year old twist) was *_awesome_* . By the end of it, after I saw the ending, and with the story of the past 2 games in my mind, now I feel like a legend. I finally *_get it_* , more than just reading a summary on a wiki. In a way, we’re _all_ Erdrick, aren’t we Chief?
