Anybody who denies that needs to really listen to the amazing art he produces with his voice. It's not just the impeccable technique and the range. It's the bravado, the role he plays on stage. One thing that these guys really had/have going for them is they were workout beasts. Many people don’t realize how much playing music actually physically strains you, it’s really hardcore. That’s why you get many bands who start sounding really bad near the end of a long tour, or they only do a short tour all together because they know they can’t survive a 12+ gig tour. The shape that Manowar keeps them in is a massive help and, of course, these guys have serious natural talent. Eric Adams is a fantastic vocalist with so much power behind it.

I was a power metal head at the time, (Iron Maiden, Priest, Dio) and was blown away by the album, and especially the ability of the singer. I thought he rivalled any of the top metal singers of that day. Needless to say Manowar became my goto listen when we needed to take on the hordes of goblins or undead in our DnD campaign :)

Great analysis in the video! only one thing i found missing is to mention that the last 10 years, during the live shows they are tuned 2 semitones down.... this is a huge relief for a singer that screams, and almost every metal band is doing it at that age, except iron maiden, so a huge bravo to eric, for trying his best at 71 yrs old, but also kudos to bruce for being the only "famous" metal band that they still hold the original E tuning on their instruments live.
@StaticYonder Жыл бұрын
The reason Manowar tuned down about 15 - 20 years ago was due to the new style that metal had gained in recent years. The material they wrote in that time (call to arms being 1 example) Still contains G5 and G#5 notes, some of Eric's all time highest. There's even an Bb5 in the song "Immortal" from 2022, which he sings every time. It's not 2 semitones down for Eric's ease, its because It's easier to leave the guitars in that tuning, rather than keep tuning up and down between songs
@sleipnir71243 жыл бұрын
Thank you for an excellent analysis. Imo Eric Adams would be the alltime greatest metal vocalist, although Rob Halford and Robert Plant (if you consider him a metal singer) at least would be in the same elite category.

Well done man! Imho, Eric is the best baritone voice in metal, among other greats such as his hero, Ian Gillan, or Matt Barlow. And let's not forget other baritone giants in rock such as Freddie Mercury, Chris Cornell, David Coverdale, Roy Khan, Jorn Lande... The list would go on endlessly! I'm a classical trained tenor (and I love rock and metal, music is music!!) but let's be honest... The silk qualities of the tone, the warmth, depth and thickness of baritones, are some things which I really love!!! That's because I always find Eric's voice so attractive and beautiful! The only thing I dislike about him is that he had to be more active!! With such a great voice, we have very few records to enjoy his skills!!! I would like to hear your take on Michael Kiske. I find his technique quite fascinating. His transitions are flawless, and his head voice otherworldly. Let's not forget his amazing lows, super influenced by Elvis (another superb baritone). Ian Gillan or Tony Martin (from Black Sabbath) would be amazing choices too! Greetings from Spain man! 😄
@rikosborne1212 Жыл бұрын
As a baritone myself, it was encouraging to me when I finally got to hear some of my favorite metal singers speak, and realized they were also baritones (I think Coverdale was the first one I heard speak). It showed me that I too could hit those high notes if I worked at it. (By "hear them speak", I'm referring to their normal, conversational speaking voices, not their "stage" speaking voices.)

There is no metal more metal than Manowar. Eric is the best vocally, same as Joey on Bass. They are called Kings Of Metal for reason. I was lucky enough to meet them some years ago in Czech. They filmed "I Believe" official clip there, where I can see myself and part of the "Hell on Wheels pt3" as well, where I can see myself several times on DVD. But the best part was (since we were waiting at the gates 12 hours before the show), because we wanted to be on the show in the front row (which we were) and we traveled from Slovakia there for like 8 hours, because of night train connections... so the best part was, after the show, we were in one of the hotel's bar sitting by the counter and then out of the blue someone tap my shoulder, I turned and there was Eric saying "I remember you from the show" Would you believe? :) after Joey came, then few mins later RIP Scott and Karl... they sit there with us maybe for an hour and talked to us like we were friends for many years. They signed of course our Tshirt and tickets. After that I said... "I can die now" , it was amazing.... oh and another small thing, during that weekend because of traveling, show and traveling back (and connections), I wasn't sleeping for almost 65 hours!!! I almost really died 3 years ago I managed to be awake again for 62 hours, during the filming Game Of Thrones (I was there as an extras for half a year) ... but Manowar was not beaten... as always ! Brazilian metal vocalist Dan Vasc mentioned Eric Adams as one of his favorites. He specifically said, "Not the NYC mayor"!!!🤣🤣🤣

Eric Adams should be as much legend, up there with the greatest. He is sadly underrated. Another great singer is Michael Kiske from Helloween. Plz, check him out

You're so right! I'm a big fan of Michael Kiske. The longevity section of the video I do about him is gonna be the most detailed to date 😂

@@StaticYonder I'm a big fan of Michael Kiske (with Helloween) and Eric Adams (and Manowar) and I really dream of a duet of those two amazing singers. This could be a project I would die for.

By "supported falsetto" do you mean a partial glottal closure instead of more fully open vocal cords as seen in full falsetto?
@StaticYonder3 жыл бұрын
Essentially, yes! A more accurate, equally basic definition than the one I gave would be: Falsetto, with more chord closure and breath support

Any ideas why he has been using a stage name? Could it be related to his initial reluctance?
@StaticYonder3 жыл бұрын
I believe so! Or it might've been his way of honouring his family by taking the name of his children.
@ElderScrolls73 жыл бұрын
StaticYonder that is surely a better thought :) I always thought that way too. But back in the day you wouldn’t hear about them so much. Now, with all those recent interviews, and the eagerness in Eric’s tone towards the idea of retirement in the Weltwacht interview where he also said how he refused being in the band several times, I couldn’t help thinking this way. Actually, I listened to that interview the night before the show in Istanbul and was worried when he was not yet on stage and just singing in backstage. I know they do it all the time but still there was this crazy idea that he just would not show up and some tape would play his voice instead :D
@StaticYonder3 жыл бұрын
@@ElderScrolls7 I also listened to the Weltwach podcast before I saw them in Birmingham! I had heard it weeks before, and decided to listen again before the show. And don't worry, it takes alot for Manowar to leave a show. Out of the ENTIRE final battle, Hellfest was the only one that didn't happen, and to be fair, after some research, it transpires the organisers were nasty to everyone that year

@@StaticYonder Eric has many hunting podcasts floating around actually. I recently listened to the one where he talks about the guy he saw in the forest with blood all over him. Pleasure to listen to him talk. He does sound very different though (also on those hunting interview videos). He has a very different accent compared to when he sings. Funny because on top of English classes I actually learned English listening to him singing (after 30 something years I still continue to do so). But if it was his talking I don't think I could understand so well. Now I can, but I don't think I could with my English level from 30 years ago.

@@ElderScrolls7 that's awesome man! Yeah Eric Sings with incredibly clear diction, but when he talks you can tell he's from New York state. Just goes to show how talented he is Which podcast is the one you mentioned? May I have the link please?

People call him a baritone, but in that nessun dorma video can clearly see that his passaiios are typical tenor ones. And other thing I disagree is map of range you posted it is aome strange one, and tenor rane is not c3-c5 it is just a range in which opera roles were written for tenors
