The Spider God , is based off a real African Myth, in which the character (Anansi) has the powers of a Spider and is a trickster who uses his wits to defeat stronger opponents. They didn't just made up a Spider God, the myth already existed and had similarities to the comic, it makes sense to reference it at some point, look it up
