I can promise that she isn't out there living her best life and drinking margaritas. She's living a life suffering from PTSD and knowing that he is the only reason she is alive. She didn't thank him for killing somebody. She thanked him for saving her and after 5 years, she is still visiting him and waiting in the truck.

Thank you for saying that!! No, she's NOT out there living her best life. Once you experience that kind of trauma, it never leaves. And yes, a lot of times these guys get out with a slap on the wrist just to go do it again. Or worse. Maybe if this kind of justice was served more often, this wouldn't be so common...

clothes on my back and a backpack with any important paperwork. My siblings drove 6 hours to come to rescue me. I had to force my brother to just drive off after I got in the car and he saw that my eyes were bruised shut and I couldn't speak because my windpipe was crushed. He was so controlling that he drove out those six hours to my family's home with a shotgun to kill me and kill himself. Thankfully my father and brother were both there. This was almost 20 years ago and I still have anxiety attacks and PTSD from the physical abuse, rape, and mental trauma that I endured. But I am a Survivor. He was not a part of my child's life for many years until my son got older and never paid child support. I worked three jobs, went to school full time, became a psychologist to help others that have been through trauma, and continue to do so. I have since gotten married and had two children with the man that is "dad" to my son. HE raised him with me. HE paid for all his expenses, HE loves him as one of his own. That is what a Father should be. Sorry I got long-winded there.

I had to reply to your comment. I was in a terrible situation for years. Many times I thought this was the day he was going to kill me. I used to lay awake at night plotting how to kill him. In the end, I walked out. Sounds ridiculous, but I joined the Army. I knew if he ever showed up he’d have to go through a lot of soldiers to get to me. Got my degree and just retired from 20+ years in law enforcement. It was a great feeling every time I cuffed a mother fucker who beat his wife, girlfriend, mother, even sister. As far as I know, he never put his hands on his now wife. And he apologized. Now we get together and spend time with our grandkids. Life is sure fucking weird sometimes.❤️❤️❤️

That's what I think too! If it was just about saving that girl, he'd have been able to take her away from there. He was probably dealing with a demon from his past. Plus, as much as I disagree with vigilante justice, which can lead to innocent people being harmed, if he just took her away, that guy would end up abusing other women, so there is some satisfaction in seeing one dirt bag removed!

@@t24lmj6 A lot of people criticizing what he did seem to miss when he says "I knew what had happened to her." He's definitely seen it before. Was probably powerless to help that person. And even here, in the video, he could have just walked in and shot the guy. My take is he planned to just hand the guy a beating until he grabbed the shotgun. Then it was kill or be killed. And if the boyfriend killed him, he knew she'd be next. So he did what he had to for her.

When abusers get beat up or get put in jail, they just get out & beat or kill the woman as soon as they are free. This one is never hitting another woman. And the 60 months were just how long he had been in jail so far. Powerful song, powerful subject. He obviously saw this kind of thing before. Maybe Dad beat Mom or someone else close to him experienced this. For another great tune by Hardy, try 'Give heaven some hell'. Awesome song.

@@suewatkinsmehlenbacher8587 In turn they are prisoners to the abuser's. If you look at freedom people would say it should be given but freedom isn't free in itself. He obviously had PTSD from childhood where he was too little to protect a female he loved from abuse. The girl in rain he saved was a trigger. He saw her and everything flooded back so he took all the pent up rage out on abuser. Not saying it's right. Just saying I understand. I'm a DV survivor. My ex put me through HELL physically, mentally, psychologically, Financially and environmentally. Every way possible, he hurt me. I couldn't go anywhere he couldn't find me plus my elderly parents lived close by. If I left, he would have hurt them. I didn't tell my daddy or brothers as they would have shot him dead and ruined their own lives and I wouldn't allow that. I was so trapped plus I had my son to care for. God got us out is all I can say. I divorced him and was free. Awhile later, I met my angel and we have been married 20 years. Thank you Hardy for writing a song about such a hard subject.

1986 my brother was the first person ever killed by park police in MD. He was shot unarmed in the park sitting with his girl. I was 16. That was the second brother I had lost in 7 years so I was pretty screwed up at that point.I got his .357 when he died. 3 months later my sister's husband broke her nose on drunken binge. If 3 people didn't tackle me at her door I'd be living this story. I can totally understand what he was thinking. Maybe he failed someone too.

He was an Avenging Angel. Avenging Angels were the first angels created by God. As a teen in the 70s I saw so many abused women and young girls. Where I grew up women belonged to the "man" of the house (Bible Belt USA). However, every once in a while one of those "men" would cross a line and then just take off. The rumors were that they were in hiding under some random septic tank. What do I know? I was just a kid.🙅

Most of the time police never come and check on trash men like this anyway, but he's a good country and respectable man with integrity and I think he probably saw his mom go through it. He had the guts to do what was right, the integrity to admit he did it and the courage to pay for the consequences. I wish everyone had this kind of integrity but without the violence. He felt the violence was necessary to eliminate the threat.

The first law broken by who Hardy is portraying is he kicked in someone's else's door. Then as played out in the scene he says I let the hammer drop BEFORE he could get to that 12 he was reaching for so he was on strike two. I love the video, the song and Hardy & Lainey but the situation is a damned if you do or damned if you don't situation. If he did nothing but take her from the road to another state to get her outta the situation, more than likely the abuser would still be coming after her and could kill her next time and then doing what he did automatically lands you in jail probably rest of your life but you saved someone other than yourself. Not that they in a video can go into every detail but we don't know if that was a one time incident (never saying one time even is okay) on his part or if that was the 20th time he has abused her or someone either so like I said just a damned if you do or damned if you don't situation.
