First of all i loved the video. lots of info, thank you. About the hadith "Seek knowledge, even if you had to go to China" is very week and should not be directly linked to the prophet. But here is a quranic verse and 2 hadiths about seeking knowledge that are 'sahih' (correct in chain of narration). 1- sura 58 verse 11 "Allah will raise those who have believed among you and those who were given knowledge, by degrees." 2- "Seeking knowledge is a duty upon every Muslim..." Sunan Ibn Majah 224 3- "He who follows a path in quest of knowledge, Allah will make the path of Jannah easy to him. The angels lower their wings over the seeker of knowledge, being pleased with what he does. The inhabitants of the heavens and the earth and even the fish in the depth of the oceans seek forgiveness for him. The superiority of the learned man over the devout worshipper is like that of the full moon to the rest of the stars (i.e., in brightness). The learned are the heirs of the Prophets who bequeath neither dinar nor dirham but only that of knowledge; and he who acquires it, has in fact acquired an abundant portion." In islam narrating from the prophet Peace be upon him has its rules and regulations. With regard to the hadeeth mentioned, “Seek knowledge even if you have to go as far as China, for seeking knowledge is a duty on every Muslim,” Shaykh al-Albaani said in Da’eef al-Jaami’: “(It is) fabricated.” (no. 906). “Europe was backward” and yet this so called “Islamic Golden Age” was the result of Christians translating European science and philosophy from European languages into a language (Arabic) that had up until then NO science or philosophy. The universities of Oxford and Bologna were founded 900 years ago and remain major centers of learning and civilization. What major centers of learning are there in the Islamic world? (Besides theological schools like Al Azhar that have never contributed to human civilization as a whole).
@skepticalzostrianos9875

@@TheMonkeyking555 And so was the renaissance the product of a big compaign of translation of arabic books into latin by arabs living in muslim lands who recently had come under Christian rule. If you want to do a research about nuclear fusion, you won't start your research from scratch. You won't start by re-inventing numbers, algebra, physical constants, formulas, etc. You'll continue where other scholars or scientists stopped. Thats how science research is done. Should I remind you that the Al-Qarawiyyin is the world’s oldest, continually operating university who was founded by a Muslim woman and is still a major centers of learning? In case you're not familiar with history, Al-Qarawiyyin had taught several well-known philosophers and scholars (not-necessarily muslim) like: Maimonides, Ibn Arabi, Ibn Khaldun, Leo Africanus, Imam al-Bannani, Ahmad ibn Idris, etc. Al-Qarawiyyin is a major learning center for Maliki fiqh, whereas lets say the university of madina is of hanbali/wahhabi fiqh.

@@TheMonkeyking555Christianity is not necessarily western, especially nestorian
@TheMonkeyking555
@TheMonkeyking555 6 ай бұрын
@@harambesson1098 You’re correct, Christianity wasn’t “Western” but that dichotomy didn’t fully exist in what was then a politically and (somewhat) culturally United Mediterranean world under the Roman Empire. It was really the Islamic conquests that severed the Mediterranean world into competing (East vs. West and North vs. South) political-cultural zones. It’s also true about the Nestorians as they developed largely within Sassanid Persia. That said, Christianity as a religion (and this includes the Nestorians) largely developed out of and within a Greek speaking cultural milieu far more so than it did within the Syriac speaking world. The Nestorians ultimately relied on Greek translations into Syriac and upheld council of Nicaea even though the churches under Persian rule did not participate in it. Many of the Church fathers had a Classical Greek (pagan) education and were very much impacted by the Greek philosophical and especially Neoplatonic tradition (Christ as “Logos”) far more than can be said about Zurvanite Zoroastrianism. It was the fact that these later Nestorian Christians were so deeply familiar with the Greek language and Greek philosophy that enabled them to make these translations into Arabic. So, no the Nestorians were primarily not “Western” as those political and cultural connections had become somewhat severed by the schism and Islamic conquests, but it was their understanding of a Western language and philosophy that made them so important.

There is no doubt that the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, encouraged us to learn science in various fields, but the hadith that you mentioned (seek knowledge, even in China) is a lie to the Prophet and he did not say it, so please make sure in the coming times, especially when the matter is related to our religion.

Apart from hunayn, there were also other christian translators such as, qusta ibn luqa, yahya ibn adi, & ibn al batriq of alexandria. They knew greek & syriac languages, that's why they were employed as translator

Yes, primarily discussing the later thinkers that were directly translated into latin and made their way into European philosophy, such as Ibn Sina and Ibn Rushd. But you are right in pointing out that not all scholars from this region at the time were Muslim. To be nuanced, it would have perhaps been better to use the term "Islamicate"rather than Muslim.

The narration of the prophet peace be upon him saying to seek knowledge even onto China is at best a weak narration and at worst fabricated. The more authentic famous narration of the prophet to do with knowledge is “the seeking of knowledge is an obligation on every Muslim”

Are you aware that you are disguising thousands of years of Iranian civilization’s knowledge base as Arabic or Islamic? Even language including Arabic has Iranian roots both in its grammar which was created by Sibouye an Iranian scholar and in its philological roots. Ancient Avesta is oldest language to date deciphered. It is older than Sanskrit. Now in the past thirty years a more ancient language has been discovered in the vast archeological site of Jiroft etc in current remaining portion of “Iran”.

I am an Arab, and it bothers me how they make Islamic civilization and the Middle East only associated with Arabs. The best example of this is the stories of One Thousand and One Nights, or the so-called Arabian Nights. The truth is that it is not Arabic. It is sad that people think that anything in the Middle East is of Arab origin and they leave the peoples of the afterlife who had achievements in the Middle East region and in the era of Islam.

this is not true Arabic don't have any Iranian roots they r different. It is the other way around, Persian language who has Arabic roots, vocabulary and poetry techniques + the Iranian civilization got carried by Indians and Iraqis they didn't do much scientifically. Sibawye believed that Arabs and superior to other races an some believe he is Arab bcuz of that.
