I don't think that we and the acians are tempered, at least not in the same way as we're familiar with. The circumstances that Hydaelyn and Zodiark were summoned are quite a bit different than "normal" primals. My hypothesis about tempering is that the reason primals temper people is because they need constant aether to keep their form. So, I think tempering is not an automatic process, but a tool used to make sure the primal has constant energy and prayer, while Zodiark and Hydaelyn wouldn't need either as they already have all the aether they need. We and the acians seem to have free will, unlike the tempered. I believe that Zodiark and Hydaelyn don't have this problem as the sacrifices used to summon them were HUGELY more powerful (ancients) than what normal primals have access to. I could be way off base, but it's just the impression that I get. Basically, they may be primals, but Zodiark and Hydaelyn don't seem to be on the same level or work the same as "normal" primals.

I'm not sure about Hydaelyn but Zodiark did temper the people that summoned him, including the Ascians. In fact if you talk to Emet in the open world he will till you that they are tempered just like what any other primal does. He is aware that he and the others are tempered by Zodiark, he just doesn't care of course.

The tempered thing was actually a popular hypothesis a few years ago. I don't think I buy it so much now though. I do believe that we are indeed the 14th member of the conclave though.

@@Preaplanes There are some theories that the Voidsent we'll end up using as Reaper is our 13th corrupted shard, would make sense imo but I don't know if they would go that way, especially if we need to purify it later on. For the next expansion, though, I don't think we'll end up fully rejoined. If it ever happens, they will probably left as a plot device for future expansions.

While in some ways, i Do believe we are Tempered, i dont think its on the same level as what we normally think of. Both Zodiark and Hydaelyn i feel are on a completely different level compared to other primals. They not only were brought forth by different means compared to normal primal summonings. But they were brought forth by beings of a lot higher power than some ixali with crystals. We, along with the ascians, show free will. The WOL entire focus isnt to make the Mother Crystal stronger. And while the ascians goal is to resurrect Zodiark, They have said they themselves chose that to be their mission. So i think that since they are unlike any primal we have seen/faced before, the connection we share with Her is unlike anything weve seen

@M. Woller i mean there needs to be a "driving force" so to speak to move the plot of the game along. But canonically you joined the scions, of your own free will. It wasnt like YOU MUST JOIN US OR DIE... You arent forced into a class. You arent trying to save Hydaelyn Herself per se. You are just trying to save your friends/world. (though she is in some capacity is the world itself) There arent many things you are canonically forced to do. You as a person are, cause its a game. But in the universe of this game, you arent. Hell, you could choose not to take on a single quest... but that would mean you cant do anything in the game. When you take on a quest you CHOOSE to help that person.

They actually sacrificed two times before they summoned hydalen. First was to stop the “calamity”, second to return Ather/life in a sense to the star, then the others summoned hydalen to stop zodiarc.

I question your estimation that the 'echo' is because we are warrior of light. But rather the echo is a natural element that speaks to our past lives as a merged ancient. We have lost the blessing of the light but still maintained our echo.

One detail that wasnt discussed is the fact that Zodiark required sacrifices to be maintained as the will of the star which led the convocation,now tempered by zodiark,to sacrifice another half of amaurot to keep him in an effort to have him revive the prior half who was sacrificed to summon him And thats why hydaelyn was concieved,to stop sacrifices from being constantly offered to zodiark

Today I found a tidbit of information that seems interesting in a meta sense: Masako Ikeda, born in 1939, and thus an ancient figure in her own right whose age tends to show in her voice, giving it considerable gravitas, voices the Japanese version of both the Cloud of Darkness in Dissidia, and Hydaelyn in FFXIV. As a FFXI fan, this just makes XIV's existence feel more antagonistic toward XI in a meta sense, as the CoD is the major threat to Vana'diel and thus final boss of Rhapsodies of Vana'diel, the major XI story that wraps around the entire game, and Hydaelyn is a supreme being from a game Square Enix has intended to treat as a replacement for XI. Alas, to quote Altana herself in Rhapsodies, "The scales started to tip and the winds of time stopped. But Vana'diel is a world that doth not yield so easily". So I decided to search for videos with spoken lines from Hydaelyn, and found your video, and with it the primal/tempering stuff, which I think I'd come across before. However, it reminded me that the Cloud of Darkness has also used tempering or something similar, both in III (on Xande) and XI (on your character's future dark counterpart). So while as a multiversal entity the CoD is probably way above even the 2nd oldest primal in XIV, it's interesting that they share not only a voice actress and a threat to Vana'diel, but also have a similar way to affect the world by manipulating specific individuals...

I was wondering my self but thanks to me watching YuGiOh season one for a bit, I recognized that the music from the video was very similar to that of the soundtrack in Yu-Gi-Oh. And after going through over a hundred of soundtracks, I found that it was Movement of Doma. There also being a more rock like version that’s called ‘The Three Musketeers of Doma’

What is ultima? Is she extra-terrestrial like midgardsormr/omega or extradimensional? I really don't remember. And more importantly, why does she resemble...Hydaelyn? The pose and feathers etc. Lahabrea also mentions the Ultima spell in the praetorim (and its clearly a collection to the Ultima Weapon, which also has a similar structure to the final ultima form), but i don't think we connect that ingame. ... i really don't remember!

Midgardsormr is stated as coming from a different planet, not a different universe. It is unclear how the sundering worked with respect to that and I am surprised no one seems to address that. Did the sundering somehow shatter the universe? Seems improbable, since then a version of Omega and Midgardsormr should have arrived at all of the shards as well, but they only seem to show up on the Source. So the sundering only shattered the planet we are on... But if that is the case, what is up with the sky of the other shards? What the heck is actually going on here? Are they in the same solar system? Are they reachable by space ships? Are they somehow the same planet vibrating at different wavelengths? What the heck?

I guess you didn't see the part where she stopped him with a wave of her hand being the avatar of Hydaelyn. Or when she quite directly explained to his face that as Zodiark's minions must obey his will, as fractured as he is, so must those gifted by Hydaelyn. As weak as she is at that time. So weak that she needed Minfillia's help to even speak. Or are those moments just baseless speculation that I made up in the game? Cause you can find these events in the journal if you look back at those.

@@SyncWeaver Well, I didn't expect a response right away, to be fair the video is well put together and the first half that explains lore I happen to like, however if one is to put forward a theory, arguments for and against it should be presented. We must remember that Ardbert knowingly and willingly worked for the ascians, the enemies of Hydaelyn. Tried to hasten the rejoining, tried to kill a champion of Hydaelyn (us) and lastly, tried to kill the very avatar of Hydalyn (Minfilia). Now does that sound like someone who is a slave to the will of Hydaelyn? On the other hand, she does block Ardbert attack and paralyzes him, but that to me seems like she used her power to stop his body, not to override his will. She does have some power after all and we seem to be in her domain. She does say we carry out her will but that doesn't mean we do it unwillingly, Ardbert is proof of that you can stop working for her, he turned on her and worked for the ascians

@@chazdoit A valid argument. But I would like to bring up the Acian's in this case. If you take a look at how many of them act on their own will at times, you may be able to see how the enthrallment of Zodiark and Hydaelyn are very different from those of other primals. Those like Ifrit, Garuda Titan, the warring Triad and even Bahamut, enthralled their followers for the sake of them gathering more energy for them to feed on. "I.E crystals" Zodiark and Hydaelyn are different. Both are so powerful they didn't need more energy to exist. Though you can argue that Zodiark needing the rest of the living organisms on the planet to sustain itself as a comparable trait to be an arguement, he needed the energy to sustain the world. The Ascian's who opposed Zodiark went and summoned Hydaelyn who then spent all her energy sundering the planet while sundering Zodiark. This means that even though the Ascian's were following Zodiark, some had the free will to oppose him and summon Hydaelyn. This also means that even though the Adventurer (us) and Ardbert are enthralled by Hydaelyn, we still have our free will. And have the choice of doing whatever we want. That is because again, Zodiark's and Hydaelyn's enthrallment or blessing is different from the incomplete and quite imperfect "blessings" of other primals. You must also factor in the way Emet Selch went ahead and tried to give the races a chance by living amongst them. And he weak both Zodiark and Hydaelyn are in their current state. The fact that Minfillia as the avatar stopped Ardbert's axe with her blessing was just physical proof of Hydaelyn being able to do so. But she chooses not to do so due to her current weakened state.

@@SyncWeaver Here's one giant hole in your "we are tempered theory": Emet-Selch never says that you or anyone else are tempered by Hydaelyn. The Ascians themselves try everything to physically and mentally break you and try to tell you how bad Hydaelyn is from their perspective, and yet not a single one of them ever tells you you were tempered. Not even Emet-Selch who does nothing but tell the truth everytime you ask him questions and in one of those questions you ask him, he admits to you he was tempered, but he never says you were. Elidibus even explains to you exactly how Hydaelyn is choosing Warriors of Light, but he never once says that tempering is part of the process While Hydaelyn may be a Primal, she has never tempered anyone and there are several known Primals who have never tempered anyone, period. Enkidu, Susano, Shiva, Alexander and Titan. Enkidu was simply Gilgamesh's partner-in-crime. Susano desires only to fight, never once threatening to temper anyone present. Alexander willingly sealed himself in temporal suspension to protect the planet from himself and Titan is only ever summoned in defense and retribution by the kobolds, but even he is never seen tempering anyone.
