Great comparison. I’ve had them both and while Newage has that premium feel I preferred MS on this one. Just the proportions and the G1 accuracy does it for me. Complete miss on MS with that gap on the side and the butterfly joint. I think anybody would be happy with either though! Love we live in a world where we have these amazing choices!

Great review as always. Few points which could be added for a fuller picture: 1. MS has the insignia hiding gimmick, so they are visible in bot mode, but not in dino mode. That is a great feature if you use the insignia. 2. You didnt compare dino mode size to other bots, which is very likely the way it will be displayed and which I think would give advantage to MS (the NA trex is a bit on the short side) If the MS was priced below NA as usual it would be a fair choice to me. As is the lack of paint make it a tough choice. I'll wait for a reissue I guess

Great comparison! I am definitely a Newage fanboy, and I am all in on Newage’s EX Dinobots. That being said, this was a close battle for me. Normally, I like Newag’s figures much more than Magic Square’s. The amount by which I prefer Newage’s Grimlock over Magic Square’s isn’t much.

I think if MS came out with theirs first I would have been happy with it, but they didn’t and I got the NA dinobots. Majority of my legends are MS, so I was afraid of the scaling. In bot mode it’s very close. I’m happy with the NA Dino’s. Hope MS fix those legs. Thanks Deluxe, been waiting for this one for awhile.

It's basically a toss and boils down to Personal preference. For me I prefer the MS scale and the beefier look but I do love the paint and finish of NA. So I have them both, MS for toon accurate and picked up of the G2 paint scheme from NA(MS will more than likely never do a G2 or Shattered Glass). Very fair and even breakdown

Great comparison! I got the ex version of New age, but never really cared for the sculpt, and the lack of articulation in dino mode was a big disappointment. MS was a big improvement to me! I did think the legs/arms were not toleranced very well, but I painted mine. He's now a mix between toon and toy, and the paint made the tolerances for the leg arms nearly perfect, making me think that was the plan all along for MS.

I'm rather not a fan of the square blocky chest of the MS. Plus, in bot mode he just looks too wide to me

Great review, loved the opening comparison photos. I still prefer NA for the nicer lines and extra/sharper detail, but MS is a solid entry. Both companies are on fire right now.

My first New Age was the Shockwave as a car and then I couldn't stop. I did grab the MAgic Square Bruticus, just because I like my combiners to be a bit bigger, otherwise, I'm New Age all day everyday.

I have the MS and the MK-06 KO of NA that comes with panels for the robot legs and some details removed for more toon accuracy. Speaking of that, did you changed your Newage Dino legs? Because they are extendable like the MK-06 ones but he has the NA details that the MK-06 one removed and I don't recall NA having extendable Dino legs. My opinion on both Newage/MK-06: -better paint -more solid plastic (except on the MK leg panels that uses bendable plastic) -more simple transformation that appears more toon accurate -articulated tail (although barely) -great robot forearms/Dino legs transformation -MK-06 has extendable Dino legs like the MS but not as much articulation that is solid and doesn't come undone easily by accident. -less articulation -neck on the robot mode looks weird -Robot looks too slim -A bit stylized in Newage with more details, MK-06 is more toon accurate by removing those details. -MK-06 is cheaper than the other two and comes with more accessories like 2 blaster, 2 swords (the sword and the flame one), etc. -The Dino chin looks great and always looks great no matter the position. -Dino arms in NA are a bit more limited since they can't rotate, MK-06's ones can rotate like MS ones however -You need to get another dinobot for the robot leg covers in NA that partsform for that, otherwise you get an ugly inside of the leg. MK-06 comes with built in leg covers that rotate for leg transformation, so no partsforming, however, due to the leg covers the tail of MK-06 is more bulky, some might like the extra mass, other might find him fat Magic Square: -Nearly no paint -Bendable plastic (depends on what you like, I'm fine with either material) -More complex transformation -No articulation on the tail, but looks more toon accurate with no gaps for articulation -Strangely more simple forearms transformation but the hands come undone pretty easily -Extendable Dino legs with great articulation but a bit easy to come out (although not too much) -Better articulation -Unfortunately the butterfly joints in robot arm/dino leg are complete trash and come undone at the slightest touch, easily the worst part of MS, I need to see if a bit of nail polish makes them harder to come undone or worst case scenario in case it doesn't mess the transformation simply glue them. The fact that Sludge also comes with them is a bad omen for the rest of the dinobots. They should be as hard to unplug as the NA/MK ones (even if those are only used for the transformation) -Way more toon accurate in either mode, seriously either mode looks like it jumped out of the screen -Robot Mode looks beefy like a Grimlock should although the torso is a bit "squared" -The Dino chin is huge, it looks fine for most of the part, but after you open the mouth past a certain point it starts to look weird as hell -built in leg cover better than the other two. -Way bigger Dino mode, even than the MK-06 that also has leg extensions. Robot however is about the same size. IMO, MS is the better one, the only reason it doesn't stomp is because of the garbage butterfly joints, the hands coming undone easily, the Dino knees also being a bit easy to come undone and the unnecessary more complex transformation that is something MS insists on doing on transformations that should be simple. I don't mind the material and I think the lack of pain even works on their favor for the toon accuracy. If MS had MK-06 robot arms/Dino legs with a bit of more articulation on the Dino knee there would be no dispute. The paint and material couldn't make up for how much better MS would be.

Easy pick as I prefer NewAge and the painted plastics over unpainted nylon. It just looks so much better with paint.

I think you either collect newage or magic square both are awesome but you need to stick to whatever you got I'm all newage and love them all I'm not one for mixing them great vids though man I love watching them whilst I eat my tea here in rainy UK 👍

I am sticking with Newage, mostyr because of the different color variations you get with them. I use the Gig's as my robot mode.

MS Grimlock for me. NA Grimmy is too lanky, the neck is meh, I like the MS head sculpt better, MS bigger dinomode and better articulation, MS more cartoon accurate and just cleaner all around (less gaps, pins, screws, no add-ons needed for cleaner look).
