Another major advantage is that if fitted to a rural community building it can be removed before an incoming typhoon and stored away safely and then refitted without professional help. The larger satellite is fixed and because it's much larger is more prone to damage by very high winds and flying debris, requiring a new dish or a person to recalibrate it, all at additional cost to the government/community.

Excellent channel! I ordered my Starlink because I made only bad experiences with the local ISPs, Ridiculous promises, non-existent service and total failure during brown-outs. Another big problem on our little island are the ISP's connections to their backbone on mainland. They do not come to our island with the needed bandwidth. Starlink is our solution. We often have digital nomads as guests, Starlink will soon be one good argument to stay with us. We expect the break-even in less than 6 months.

The only major flaw Starlink has that I can think of is its vulnerability to CMEs (Coronal Mass Ejections). Those can destroy satellites, and stronger ones can even ruin ground-based electronics like what happened to North America back in 1989. IIRC, more than 30 Starlink satellites were damaged or destroyed last year by a relatively-minor one.

@@txtmodcarlo Best defense they have that I can think of would be for them to shut down entirely and wait out the storm. Not sure what would happen if it was a Carrington-level solar event, but I guess we'll know soon enough. The Sun's getting quite active these past several months.

Something that GA touches on, but needs to be emphasized, is the fact that Starlink allows you access beyond what local telcos offer, regardless of location. You'll probably have experienced asking "anong ISP ung malakas dito" before committing to an install - Starlink takes that out of the equation entirely.

@@samohtsolacad229 I think Starlink does that too, they needed to limit your bandwidth somehow but they do it generously Imagine paying 2700/month for 250mbps? That's a steal. Compare it to PLDC or Comberj which are the leading ISP here in Manila. Still far better competition offer than them. Not to mention the minor ISP which charges you a lot and give you just a drop.

it's so nice to see there's competitor when in comes to internet service, making the existing not just monopolize the business and improve their services, I've been a 10 year subscriber of PLDT, and it was a love hate relationship due to their poor after sales support and slow internet speed, but it's gotten better over the years, with the former president's action, it's gotten even better than I imagined, and it was very helpful when 2020 happened

The thing that annoyed me with PLDT and other telcos is that if you're late to pay, they're so fast to cut you off. But when your service is offline for 1 or 2 weeks, they're so slow to fix it and there's no refund. They promise a refund or credit, but when you try to actually get it 🤷‍♂️

Very useful and very informative. Thanks. Believe it or not, after watching about 5 or 6 previous videos from other content providers, yours is the first one that bothered to show the inside equipment (router). As far as cost, here's a valuable comparison. I recently moved to the Philippines from central Florida. The best service I could pay for in my semi-urban rural area was 25Mbps at $50 USD per month, To obtain this "cheap" rate, (discounted for a senior citizen) I had to provide my own modem ... using the provider's modem would have cost me $15 additional per month. So for sure, speeds in the 200 Mbps range for 2700 Pesos per month will be a real bargain.

DICT is now even looking into Starlink Satelite Internet as an ISP in Unreachable areas in the country, and as far as competetion to the existing telcos, Starlink wont be a threat to them because they too dont want to invest in hard to reach areas in the country for the reason that is "Low ROI" because they believe that far flung areas have low numbers of subcribers, and also, as an archipelagic country, satelite internet is very much needed.

Usually in evening I'm down to less than 1kb/s in both 4G and 5G.... I bet they are still on traditional Microwave links. As long as no optical fibre backbone is provided to the basestations it will never be fast. Back in Sweden I normally get up to 800Mb/s on 5G and 200Mb/s on 4G. In PPC Palawan we have the choice of two fiber connections. Outages happen often. Also the contractor/installers when adding a new customer just disconnect one person to add another in the junction box. This is because they don’t know who is still subscribed or not at the box and they are not marked. So you get disconnected every so often and wait a day or two to turn it back on. So starlink is for some of us in cities and I am getting about 190Mbps and fiber 110 Mbps on a promised 600 connection.

With your comparison of Cignal and how they charge shows that the same tech can be acquired but since these Philippine companies we have like Globe, Smart, etc. they charging far too expensive tech and Starlink will quash and evidently shows their tech is much better than locally "PROFITEERING / CAPILATALISTIC" in business. This Starlink should change the game of such local telco companies. For small far flung barangays for sure they (LGU) can acquire a telco experienced IT to reverse the use iof those pico cells from acquiring internet and making it work like a small cellsite for a vicinity of a barangay but with a user pax of 120 devices. Well, I’m glad early adopters in the Philippines (and SEA?) will experience it while it’s still not crowded. I’m already getting massive slowdowns during “peak hours”. Not unusable but I’m expecting it to get worse and worse as more people use the service. There’s just not enough satellites and they don’t have the capacity to launch satellites faster.

hopefully spaceX could be able to launch and provide much needed satellites to prevent slowdowns even if many people will subscribe to the service.

They should literally just have dedicated satellites orbiting above each states or continent.

@@kevinxsavagegm I think that the way satellite orbits work, they have to go around the globe -- so they need multiple satellites timed to always be above each area that has coverage.

one guy commented on other creator that spacex is launching more sattelites aiming 12,000 at the end of this year from 42000 planned overall. theyre not dumb enough to not know this problem coming

Is CD-R King still operating? used to used those when I'm at work doing drive test. As someone who works in telecoms I agree with Gadget Addict this is the best option for those at far flung areas. I'm not sure if they are gonna have the RV package here in the Philippines, if they do it would be good for those van lifers or digital nomads who wan to cring their own internet.

Sir, have you try "Gomo" powered by Globe? Gomo Sim costs P549.00, guaranteed connection is 5mbps (can reach up to 70 mbps, signal connection dependent) for only P599.00 a month. Those who live in the "far flung places" but has Globe connection opt to use this for one reason - CHEAPER, in fact the cheapest. If you can make a comparisson of both, I am eager to hear it. Thank you Starlink is on my "wishist", too. Perhaps when it is not that expensive. 😊

does weather affect the connection speed? since PH have so many typhoons

Heavy rain clouds have the potential to affect the connection. There's been quite a lot of testing from various people on KZbin. Starlink doesn't seem to be affected as badly as traditional VSAT which relies on a single satellite.

there are vloggers showing acceptable latency during hard-pouring rain. but if there's strong winds, just remove it from the roof until it's safe..
