Regarding Link's take on escalator etiquette, I took it as he's just coming from the perspective of someone who doesn't associate escalators with bustling cities where they're utilized in public transport, which is why he emphasized in a mall (or store)-places where people are typically walking at a more leisurely pace than rather than rushing and the escalators aren't very lengthy. Also not sure if this is just me, but I feel like some escalators don't even seem that wide to let people comfortably and swiftly pass you by, especially if you're carrying bulky bags or items
@mmpollo Жыл бұрын
yeah coming from a busy city I feel like it’s more common to see people walking up the escalator to get somewhere faster
@_korbo_ Жыл бұрын
I don't think I ever encountered an escalator so narrow that it can't fit 2 people. At least not in places where it's meant to be used by many people at once, which is the only place this would happen.
@seth4204 Жыл бұрын
In Taipei and most other cities/places in east Asia, standing on the right is actually a posted "rule" in a lot of places there and followed by the vast majority of people. This includes malls and other more leisurely places. This is definitely a cultural difference, but it is frustrating that people here are so oblivious to it.
@SUPERduperCami Жыл бұрын
Agreed most escalators I have been on have not been wide enough for two people to fit on, with one passing. I dont walk on escalators either but that's only because I don't like heights and I get motion sickness easily. And where I'm from that can sometimes be the only option or an elavator and I get motion sickness on those too. 😅
@darvulya Жыл бұрын
I hope you're correct. I have multiple escalators on my commute to/from work and if some is standing on the left side people will be pissed. Walk on the left, stand on the right. Most everyone (excluding tourist and small children) adhere to the rule.

I feel like the only people commenting about the escalator are the types of people who pass you when driving even when you're already going over the speed limit. In all my time being alive, I have never once been on an escalator that was BIG ENOUGH for 2 people to stand side-by-side, the AVERAGE escalator is not made for that, they're made for single-file lines of people. Not to mention, the longest I've ever been on an escalator while sitting still, has been like 10 seconds. If you desperately need to cut a 10 second stairway trip down to 5 seconds, you need to reevaluate how you manage your time.

I have never been on a single file escalator in my entire life, and I've lived in about four countries and visited a dozen more. So I don't know where you got that average from.
