Who is NOT AT FAULT in this COLLISION?

The truck is driving in a roundabout, with the right turn signal on, and is about to turn at the first exit. A red car with its right turn signal is entering the roundabout and a ridiculous collision occurs. Thank God everyone is alive, but Who is not at fault in this car collision?

If the truck had had his LH indicator on who would have been to blame? Rules in the UK are simple, 1) vehicle on the roundabout has right of way. 2) Vehicle joining the roundabout must give way until it is safe to join. What if it was a 2-lane roundabout?

When it's a 2-lane roundabout it depends on in which lane the accident it happened in, who merged into the lane where the accident happened, and if appropriate usage of the turning signal was used. Appropriate usage of the inner lane must also be looked at. Depending on how many points the roundabout and sign directions(if there are any), it wouldn't be appropriate for you to ever be in the inner lane. Generally in a roundabout you should stay in the outer lane if you're taking the first or second exit after entering the roundabout, this prevents conflicts and misunderstandings about where you're going for those waiting to enter the roundabout. The more obvious your and everyone else's intentions are, the smoother and more effective a roundabout becomes, resulting in more cars can be in a roundabout at the same time.

The yield signs are only reinforcing the idea, not changing it. In a roundabout the vehicle already in the turnabout has right of way against a vehicle entering the roundabout.

Always yield until you can turn into the circle. But yields are not stop signs, you don't have to come to a stop to enter that circle nor do you have to wait for the circle to be empty, you just have to enter safely without interfering with oncoming traffic. I go into traffic circles most times without even slowing down, no need to so long as you can see a good slot. 2-lane circles are a lot more "fun", since the center lane has priority to make their way right & out.

I am now 65 years old. When I was learning how to drive (in USA), my Mom taught me that anyone on the road has the right of way over anyone entering the road. My Mom died in 1999, but she is still correct, as she almost always was!!!

The amount of times that I've seen the curb or decorations/walls of a roundabout get damaged from drivers running over the middle is absolutely ridiculous. Nobody here in America seems to understand the words: circle, yield, and slow... I'm surprised he didn't go into anything about the turning signals. Never ever rely solely on someone's turning signals when determining their intended path. I have strong glasses that mess with my depth perception, so I wait until they either start turning or come to basically a complete stop before I start turning.

If you are in France and with no Yeild sign the vehicle entering the roundabout has the right away. It doesn't make sense but it's France we are talking about.

Unfortunatelly this is a classic roundabout situation, where most likely mistake was made by the truck but the one who pays is a driver of the red car. If the person is not blind or was so distracted that he couldn't see the truck moving on speed he would let that truck pass regardless the signs or roundabout - safety first. So aparently the truck driver clicked to early the yellow turning lights and indicated the turn on the previous road but kept moving forward or by mistake turned the yellow light on by entering the roundabout, driver of the red car saw the lights, turned his head right and started the movement. Comes loud "beep", crazy sound of brakes and a touchdown. Usually both parties manage to break in time before any fatalities and speed is low, but the damage is done, and unfortunately for a driver of the red car , the police will see it as his failure and makes him pay.

I HATE these things! We have a double rourdabout and I nearly ended up in this situation. Unlike your example there were no signs posted for instructions, a car behind me was honking their horn as I choose caution and stopped before proceeding. Unfortunately I entered the roundabout thinking on coming traffic had to yield, again there was no yield sign for me. I nearly broad sided the on coming car but stopped in time. No accident but clearly these are dangerous things and I now avoid them like the plague even if I have to detour 10 miles out of the way.

I don't get why it's so hard. Yield on your way in, find and get into your slot, and use your signals to get out. So far as danger, they're dangerous to inept drivers' sheet metal and plastic. Fatalities and serious injuries are much less likely since most every accident is a side-swipe. They can also handle more cars per hour than a traffic light.

This is SO OBVIOUS to Europeans. Roundabouts are second nature.... although folk-law says that in France they give priority to people joining roundabouts - which is crazy and can't be true.

But one thing that irks me... we dont know WHEN the truck put his light signal on. Maybe they were on too early and the car thought the truck was going south? 80% of the time when i enter roundabout people dont use their god damn signals or they dont use them properly. I swear in canada people have no clue how to use a roundabout.

I like the design of your scenario. It's both pretty and accurate with correct road markings and yield signs. Anyway, I would assign blame 50% on the red car and 50% on the truck. The truck should not have had his blinker on which led the car to think it was exiting the roundabout. But the car should not have trusted the truck's signals and waited to see of the truck exited the roundabout before entering the roundabout (personally, I regard other peoples' signals as nothing more than random blinking lights with no meaning).

That's not how roundabouts work, the car is coming from a single lane way one road there would be no way of turning there. Second if the truck had stop it could caused an accident and a traffic block since roundabouts are about continuous motion.
