Put them to work: cleaning streets and alleys, shoveling snow, scrubbing graffiti off walls, cleaning up old campsites. The Ones that pass background checks, have them clean around schools and playgrounds, trim hedges and trees, wash city vehicles. Make them earn their keep!

Sadly, nowadays street homeless are drugs addicts, and they are addicted to cocktail of nasty chemicals such as fentanyl, horse tranquilizer, elephant tranquilizer, sedative benzo, rat poison, nitazenes chemicals, P2P based meth, wasp dope, and other nasty stuff. That is in the pills they smoke all the time. They are quickly damaged mentally and physically beyond the point of repair. Police was instructed not to enforce any laws on them unless they spill blood. Police can only ask them not to do something but cannot arrest them. Judges will release them in no time. Well, I will re-post my comment here in this re-posted clip. The taxpayers, by that I mean business and property owners, are who pays. Where do you think the grant money comes from? That's the worst part...the double victimization of the taxpayer: theft, property damage, or worse by the people we ARE FORCED to allow to be. It is like having a robber come into your house, do whatever they want, and when you call the police they say "gotta let them stay until local leaders decide it is not okay AND where they should go. Oh yeah, you gotta give them access to you bank account...how else are they gonna get the things they need."

When society gets to a point of instability, this is just going to keep getting worse. You can't demand someone keep posting higher and higher rent/medical/gas/food etc prices, while wages stagnate. Before the pandemic and inflation, you ran articles stating that 50% of the population couldn't weather a $500 unforseen bill (your average deductible in an accident). What did you think was going to happen? No amount of financial help is going to save folks who will ultimately have to work 2 jobs and get roommates to afford to live close to their work. Spinning your wheels lol

The argument for housing first vs treatment first is tough one and has been going on for years, across the nation. The housing first model doesn't mean people are just dumped into housing and told to live on their own. There's transitional phases, called wrap around services, to help people with treatment, mental health care, life skills and job training so they can eventually be self-sufficient. If the individual is elderly, disabled or otherwise infirm, then the professionals can assist them getting the specific help and housing they need. Without these services, then yes, just giving them housing would be a poor plan. That's not what JHH is proposing (or other entities, for that matter). The Camp is unsafe, in general, and it attracts predatory people who choose to be homeless to prey on those who are vulnerable (both in the camp and outside of it). Not everyone at the camp is in addiction/alcoholic. Further, treatment is ineffective if one doesn't have a safe place to be. Camp Hope is not safe.
@cleo751 Жыл бұрын
@@jenniferwilcox9759 just because JHH is proposing something doesn’t mean it is happening. Have you been in any of the Catholic charities housing which has little requirements of their tenants? The way they are living on street is the way they are living in the apt. They are filled w/junk, bike parts, stolen prop, etc and use drugs/alcohol in apts. have you spent any time at camp hope? I have spent countless hrs down there and yes a large majority of people there are drug addicts. It’s ridiculous to think giving them housing first will stop the drug use. Money should be used to get them into live in treatment and finding them housing can be done while they are staying at treatment facility. However, most of them would refuse treatment but would like a place to live so they can use in a better environment.

this country send billions of dollars in humanitarian aid to other country's each year ,some are even sworn enemies .i shouldn't even have to continue with this but i'm going to...if you are a born citizen of this country you should not have to be without housing, medical or food without cost. you get what you put in, but basic necessities like the three i mentioned should be mandatory. if you want more than that you should have to put in work for it.

Old videos like this prove how ignorant the city's approach to the homeless plague remains. No matter how much money you stupidly throw at it, no matter how many laws you're idiotic enough to ignore to accommodate those that contribute nothing but crime, no matter how many tiny homes you build to give homeless people in the childishly ignorant belief that they'll somehow take care of them and become responsible homeowners, the answer will always be to actually care about these people instead of "loving" them to death. Sometines people need others to be tough on them, or they'll continue to spiral into depravity and sickness. You don't let those you truly care about kill themselves just because they aren't mature enough to make the correct decisions. No, you have to step in and offer tough love. That is what you do for someone you actually care for

I do not understand why so many of our states, maybe all of them don't have housing that the average worker can afford. All states I've checked out info on about average pay and average housing cost, points out average workers can't afford their own home. If they can't make it on their own, how would a person with disabilities make it? How would a single parent do it on their own? There are so many parents taking their adult children back in or adult children taking in their parents or couch surfing. I can't believe all states that are counting all their population can not see there's a very big affordable housing shortage problem.Where are people suppose to go other than what I've mentioned except the streets?

Before the Commerce money came, they were heavily funded (and still are) by private donors, grants and charitable funds. They do want to promote housing. They're housing model will take more time and consists of a different plan than what is under consideration by the City of Spokane.
